over at David Newland's (Tribute Show emcee and performer and all round great guy!) myspace site he mentions going to see Willie Nelson here in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre last month and has this to say:
"""There were a couple of highlights. We saw Mr. Lightfoot sneak in just before the show started. Everyone who saw him stood up and clapped and I got all choked up. Then Willie dedicated his encore song to him! Called him one of the greats. That was pretty cool.""""

And vice versa, I'd say. Gad, can you imagine the road stories those two must have between 'em?

the dear Charlady was far too modest to add that she had responded to david's blog.It took some determined googling but I eventually found
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...2-f7147fd6c703
where you can read the entire text of David's blog and her reply

OK OK point taken but having found David's blog I personally thought that his comments about Willie's drummer and your comparison with Anne Murray's former session drummer merited reading.
I really loved "You Needed Me" which "brought Murray one of her rare appearances on the U.K. pop chart, where it peaked at #22" in (I guess) 1978
And hey curiosity about Barry and Anne led me to:-
http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/stor...952757,00.html
where I learned that this erstwhile musician also played on "From Coffee House To Concert Hall" with the late great Stan Rogers

John Fowles
I also checked out amazon.ca and found amongt other things that there is a used copy of:-
"I Wish You Good Spaces: Poetic Selections from the Songs of Gordon Lightfoot"
on sale in California for the princely sum of 48 cents
see:-
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/tg/...873760-9845924
which obviously the Oregonian seller (godotwaits4me) on an ebay auction is unaware of as he is asking 3 bucks
picture on curent ebay auction
OR a larger version I had previously saved

CBC aired the Songwriter Hall of Fame gala from February the other night-mostly about Anne and Leonard Cohen. A few moments of Gord talking about Anne and how well she did Cotton Jenney.

For once I can correct Char in a (mispelling) :D . It usually is the other way around. But Char I have to do it. {LOL} :D You write {Cotton Jenney,} On Summer Side Of Life, it is written {Cotton Jenny}. Not a big mistake, dont get mad for this I hope?
I also have the Anne Murray 45 single of Cotton Jenny.
Really good article. He get's a standing ovation, at a Willie Nelson concert, What a life that man has had.

lolol
I've always spelled that name, regardless of it being in a song title, that way...
that's my story and I'm sticking to it....

Just a note of irony....
When I presented my CD samples to the Myspace world, a young chap from London said I reminded him of Willie Nelson. I was surprised. But knowing Lightfoot is a fan of Nelson, I'm feeling better.

To Reminder, that's the way to take it. You sound like a true Lightfoot Fan. Right On!

MistyMoppens,
Your observations are interesting. I'd never thought of the similarities between the songs you mentioned. Replaying them in my mind, though, I can understand.
I was never a "fan" of Nelson, just an admirer of his musical talent and legendary status.
Thanks for the insights,
RMD
