Borrowing heavily from 2much2lose and Sir John here, and trivia quizzes from corfid's not so distant past: a quiz format. Hope you like it.

Simply guess the song, from the increasingly fewer words out of Gord's lyrics. Similar to past threads when we did a LOT of quizzing, but I am curious to see how FEW words, or obscure the reference, will instantly turn on a Lighthead-bulb:

WHAT SONG CONTAINS THE WORD(S) :

EZ to start, harder as we go if'n you guys like it::clap::mad::mad::headbang:

Q# 1...... was a time in this.........

Q# 2.......a bit of allright....

Q# 3...... songs we know

Q# 4.......golden prairie

Q# 5........coming back

Q# 6........nails

an even half dozen to start; hope you like it. I'll post 6 at a time if'n you do.

answers format so my eyes don't cross worse *suggestion only*
Note: these answer samples do not pertain to above....
Q1 - song is: If You Could Read My Mind . Album name is (same)
Q2 - song is: Beautiful. Album name is - Don Quixote
and etc

Sly says: go for it .....

Do we have to have all of them for the answer, or can we put in one or 2 that we know?

Char - yes congrats- CRT !

Joveski - interesting - I'll just take yer word for it its in that too, but the one i took it from is: uhm......-
Hint: one of the 18 rarities on songbook this'll do it "the barman plays..the songs we know..." now u guys will get that one too. I'll not challenge it being in "I'll do it again" - I'll politely take your word for it I'm not here to prove ppl wrong....had not considered an ambiguity case though !and

Joveski Q3:
yes! golden parie - Crossroads - my favourite "working man's song" from my lumber days.....cool u got it.

OK we still have
.... a bit of allright...
.... nails...... to go

hints on these 2 hardest: (as brown as..( )....rusty nails)

and: ( ...eagles....you and i together.. ( )... a bit of allright)

if these last 2 grow stale I'll do six more by this later PM

'first shot at it was shootin' in the dark, as i had the advantage of hearing 'em in my mind when i write the Q - i of course know the answer as i write the Q

I am avoiding any lyrics searches - so as to enjoy it myself too, i like to challenge my memory...... i hope that angle is fun for you guys too.... cause the first person that does a lyrics search will take the cake home - too easy LOL

geo steve

JohninCt yes! I keep coming back for more of the same to fan the dying flame - u got it buddy.

OK a try one other quiz format, just two, below - not necessarily GL's writing,
might be covers.....by him, on his albums

and - what do you call 'em - anachronistics ?: - scrambled words or letters,
here i will test just two.... scrambled words.... if u like it i will include one or two each six.....otherwise - if interest continues, i will stick to above formula.

Qscrambled: Qa: "out the for watch shifting ramble may you sand wherever"
and Qb: "to and winds blow dusty begin autumn the"

steve, thanks for the fun (to pass time during these dog days)

not great with lyrics but I know the songbook rarities better than the songbook familiarities...mainly cos I made a cd of the rarities (only) from songbook when I obtained it and couldn't stop listening to them, well, 15 of them anyhow

ok, what is Never Say Trust Me? for Q3

that track grabbed hold me instantly...I still don't know what arborite dreams are but dig that phrase...also love the whiny guitar

some already mentioned Always on the Bright Side, wonderful...such and uncharacteristic groove and some vivid phrases ...through two shipwrecked eyes I come to see, is a real fave

as for the rest I have no clue (well, ok, other than the 10 given)

DQ - Holy Lyrics-Limerick Batman ! You nailed almost all of in one' erudite, eloquent espousal from the diaz...... leave it to a PhD to blow as all away ! BRAVO ! BRAVO ! encore encore !

yessirree you got 'em in one deft stroke of academic acumen, espousing the answers with studied aplombe and panache, from the diaz of ecellence ! YUP THATS GOT EM...

hmmph.... er.... well..... HAH ! except for Q#6 & Q#10 & QBD (bakers dozen stumper)
& Qa & Qb (the two scrambled song titles).... yeah thats it thata the ticket.... didn;t get all eh professor ? LOL j/k - good to hear from you DQ.......YOU..... might like the discussion I triedon the tail end of the vintage video of Gord singing "Remember Me", (I'm the One), for reasons of my revelation (to me) of why I like his newer work MUCH more now.... based on maturity... seasoning..... ( no jokesters out there, not the herbs and spices) LOL. Thanks DQ well done..

OK the hints on Q6 &Q10 - I will wait and give QBD, Qa, & Qb to have a chance to cool in the window before baking another pie of hints.... hmmm I must be hungry the way I am writing here..... LOL I am its 8:47 per my tachymeter chrono thats blown a gasket - must be made by Norton Thiokol ( obsure refernence anyone out there get ? Sir John? (smile) - I don't bite old friend.... you out there ? Hint its an aerospace trivia that had disastrous consequences.... never below 33 degrees, preferably not below 52 degrees - the hint to my Norton Thiokol "gasket" of type o - i dunnoooo its a ringer, allright

OK hints on Q6 - (more hints for..nails...) - last hint was (.. as brown as...rusty nails)
2nd hint Q6: another part of same song: ......you can have any flavour ya hapen too see..... thats blown it now i am sure...... LOL

Q#10 first hint: Q was:.... an old man sitting in his....
hint......... 'He called to his wife one day "come sit with me awhile" '
hint: ...... "he looked toward the sunset and smiled a wicked smile"

OK thats blown it I'm sure......the song was desribed in the Rolling Stone review as
"one of [Lightfoots] more ambitous works" as I recall

OK I will wait to hint on QBD (bakers dozen), and Qa and Qb and see what the cat drags in...LOL thanks guys and:

congrats again DQ - Oratory tour de force :)

jj -Yes ! - Never say trust me ! Bingo - I too dig this song - put it on repeat several times - as well as- just as you pointed out.... "Allways on the Bright Side" is such an
uncharacteristic song - man he's sure still "got it" in that - I repeat tat one even more.

Oh BTW re: arborite: The only reason I know this is I worked my way through college round 1 working in a lumber yard, and ai cant get those 18,000 SKU's out of my head..... Arborite is a -Canadian- euphemism for what actually is a brand name - like "Kleenex" is common usage for tissue, but a brand name, as is surprisingly "Sheet Rock" - a brand name from way back they gave up on suing over copyright infringement on - its generically called "gypsum board" by the myriad companies that make it - from ubiquitous quadrillions of tiny dead crustaceans on former sea floors.....chalk..... caclcium carbonate...... white board - gypsum board Sheetrock. OK ok in similar fashion,

Arborite is generic in many parts of Canada ( so said my vendors that sold me bunks of it, Canucks agreeing with that notwithstanding - any Canadian tradesmen out there that buy it ?. Generic term now, but Brand name for, what below the border here in US of A is called particle board, and rarely, aspenite (arborite/apenite) , except aspenite has larger flakes with glue compressed in than finer particles of wood -mush- compressed

All those damn "some assembly required" furniture pieces such as -sigh- entertainment systems and computer desks.... re so often made with particle board here, and arborite there - arbor of course in the tree sense..... , all covered with a fake picture of woodgrain on contact paper, glued to the surface... God I hate puttin together those things for years, both at work for displays, and at home when our modest budget and work discount dictated almost whole rooms in our first home be filled with it LOL.

I vowed one time to never by another particleboard "knockdown funiture" - they are called... to Merry..... when we finally could afford modest but *real* furniture, like the red-oak (I just looked at it OMG its red oak veneer over particleboard aaaggggh)LOL
computer desk I am at now. It is (particleboard/arborite) following me like a stalking sycophant. lol...

In the song Gord sings of "Arborite chairs" and tables etc. and the line u mentioned "arborite Dreams" - I take to mean the dreams of , say the wedding couple married and having their reception in the "Holiday Inn ?? " [sic] the surroundings Gord describes as familiar but tackey - tacky paintings on the wall, tacky arborite furniture etc., but such solid dreams taking hold on that arborite filled (read fake furniture) environment .? - lease as how thats my read... sure love that song.... what do they call that "iambic pentameter' or something like that in rhyming lyrics, whic Gord os credited for taking to a unique for with "clever pharaseology" where not only do the lines rhyme at the end of each sentence, but there is often a clever and catchy rhyme within the sentence 1st half and 2nd half of a given line.... as is the case as i recall in never say trust me...... I like :the barman plays the song s we know....the pretty barmade going to and fro" - and 'she gets down to "twist and shout" ' and Gord winds up.......something.. down and out.... its a fun song, sticks in your head.

And always on the bright side - man i have played htayt probably 50 times this year alone. the eagles mate for life...... through two shipwrecked eyes - THAT line alone on the eyes is so full of insight ( no pun) it grabs ya by the yangs, doesn;t it ?

thanks jj

LOL OK you two - beat the livin' he** out of my "progressively hard" Q's 12 - 18 - BUT......hold yer horses...... two things:

1. OK joveski - Congrats ! you beat Char time-wise - but omitted Q's 13 & 14 the easiest ones. And - on Q18 - see below

2. Char you got em all- and complete , but 2nd time-wise, so I'd say all in all - a draw.. but one problem... or rather ambiguity I cannot say is "wrong" ,we are all "right"
on Q18

q18 -..... "go forth"......

OK I pictured in my mind when I wrote the Q - "soon I will go forth, to that wild and barren land, where nature takes its course...." - Whispers of the North....

But - you two, interestingly - were both right - on House You Live In - AN AMBIGUOUS CASE - i am trying to avoid 'em for just such reason - but I forgot about House you live in. Go forth in the world.... thats the riff you two thought of ? yup yup yer right.
Nothing wrong about being right....

its a draw

Joveski - yes all 3 but - the Echos of Heros must be a valid ambiguous case. I'll take your word for it. My intent - and what i derived, or gleened it from by memoery was in Fact what DQ said - watch a John WAYNE MOVIE TO remind us OF THE PLANES(PLAINS?)
I'll take both as valid though.

Formerly- good one on Boathouse....

DQ - two good ones on the easier - Tattoo i think, and the harder(est) PRECEDENT of ONE WORD.. skins... wow you got it DQ. The professor strikes again....

LOL this whole thing reminds me of a scene in that great Billy Crystal Comedy - City Slickers... the scene where , on the trail-drive - Billy is sitting across from the Ben & Jerry-like ice cream mogul twins.... and the Josh Mostel big guy is the alleged master of what ice cream would go with the most...... eclectic and obscure meal.... he says to Billy - go ahead... challenge me.... Billy responds with some relatively basic meal, and The big brother (Mostel) sneers, laughs, and says paraphrasing " oh come ON, pulleease... give me something REAL to work with.." and throws his plate of beans onto the ground (analagous of the symbolic challenge i guess of throwing your hat in the ring of the contest), narrows his eyes...good bad and the ugly song whistles in the background.......dusty wind blows through the campsight....

and Billy Crystal says OK..... "Sea Bass,.." - Mostel injects: "broiled or sauteed?" . so on and so on...... and Mostel finally answers RUM RAISIN ! phew ! and the brothers high five each other whuh! Billy , puzzled, says, "What? how do you know, whuh! ?" - the twins respond "5,000 franchise locations and growing...thats how....."

what exactly the metaphor or analogue is here i am not exactly sure, but it is safe to say.... we have a MULTITUDE OF LYRICS LIGHTFOOT EXPERTS..... ardent fans, in any event.... as I am... the ardent fan that is.... surely not the lyrics expert.... surprised i have not made a mistak on my vsiualized Q's excerpts......

Lavender - YES! APPLAUSE ! = yes your name does have a feminine connotation, but in today's gender-bender world - I need to B sensitive and politically correct.....but since, to be a gentleman, you'll notice I visited your profile page, and confirmed, in connection with an old post as to the origin of your name - stumbled into initially on "names" search per another member - I saw your old '96? post of the origin of your name Lavender. FYI you are most definately a FEMALE lol..

Anymore.... I dunno aboot up there in Canada, where the men are men, and the ....well whe'll leave that salty saying for the sad men in saloons stemming for gold.... down here in the lower coterminous 48 (similar but not equiv to contiguous, John, thought i would save u from a hundred hours of hyperlinks to prove me wrong....LOL ole friend.....Levity.... is good..... says... the "Shat" - in stilted... Thats hard. As I am sure DQ would agree, that while this is a very small case of, a very hard thing to do: writing tests , often starting with the answer first, and forming the question, something I have had to do that is VERY difficcult at times, which the Professor (DQ) I am sure would agree.

Joveski,

I'll take your word for it as an ambiguous case. I refuse to try to prove anyone wrong. I'm singing that one in my head, "and the town is squeeky CLEAN" - is that the line you're thinking, and/or did I GET IT RIGHT ?

In any event, this ambiduous case begins with the song runnin' through my head whewn I thought of the cord "clean" and would be curious if anyone can get it based on the clues thus far:

"who (or what) cleans for a living" - re=stated that way - think ppl will get the one I had in my head.

But kudos Joveski - I say you got a valid case on 36. Whuh!

And Q34 remains as the last , unless someone gets my original thought on "clean"

Q36.....decked..... not as in slugged or knowcked down, rather as dressed colorfully...

to which I will add "She was"....

Miscellaneous Question based on Joveski thinking of "On the High Seas"

does anyone know what "On the High Seas" was tentatively called and sung as on the '76 Soundstage Live performance ?
"take 5, keep ya alive" said Gord during the mid-show band personnel bio's intermission
-you probably ALL know, and I am thinking myself clever.....LOL

~geo steve

BTW - THE ANSWER TO .Q36: .....clean....., allthough Biscuit City was accepted from Joveski as valid, and probably better than my intended song - cause Gord wrote it ! He did NOT write the song I was thinking of with the Q - "I used to Be a Country Singer" - "and she asked if she could clean my room" (the maid) - by memory. If anyone used search strings, I bet that would not turn up, cause its not a Lightfoot tune. Good song , though - I like GL's cover of it. I hope, for fun, to keep it sorta fair, everbuddy is going my memory, as Jovesky was et al. Just a "for the fun of it" reminder.

OK - Joveski, I'll buy that, on ....a thousand....., but does that ambiguous case also have .....stirrn'...? - I am not sure, but will take your word for it.... if not....the Q still stand with ....stirrin.... as the last clue.. and I'll add... I think I heard....

AND .....correkit' on "On the TV" during Soundstage '76 !

so, Q 37 is still up - ....everyone that she met.... ....prisoner, who...
and a third clue ....died away at sea...

and Q41 may still be up if it does not contain ....stirrin...but does have... a thousand..

what do you think by Jove ?

You know, Gordon has a recurrent theme of the term "mistake, or is it just me...as in mistake in this song, "a mistake you better not make it twice" - something like that in COTS - I wonder if that is a painful reminder for him of something....who knows. we're in this room for fun.

Q62 - Morning Glory
Q66 - I'll Tag Along

geodeticman.5
08-22-2008, 12:17 AM
RM: You got me on an ambiguous case! I'll Tag Along" -yes of course, the smoke rings..... I forgot about that one... I thought I had a hard-to-get, obscure one with "The Soul is the Rock" , and the line in this part:

The soul is the rock and the rock will always roll
In circles 'round the sun doing rings around the pole
When the mind is not sure what the heart will do next
The rock becomes the master and the road becomes what's left

Thats the only time I am looking things up - on Wayne Francis' Site (when I'm doing this), is when there is an ambiguous case I have to verify when its not the one I intended. But sure enough , you are right (you knew that lol), for others benefit:

This time tomorrow we might all be packed and gone
I believe it's best we carry on
Smoke rings rising til they disappear
In the sky above
If you ask me I'll tag along

You got me.....

And of course Morning Glory is right, too.

OK so that leaves just Q's 63 & 65:

Q63......looms.....

Q65......stairway.... not stair, stairs, or staircase if the Q arises...those (3)are other songs!) - the reason I know....is it occurred to me that not only was "rings" that Ron got on an ambiguous case, I got to thinking of the other clues remaining. Stairway is ambiguous to my knowledge only in its root forms and tenses - such as stair, stairs, stairwell, etc. In other forms -stair, the singular case, is ambiguous , in 2 songs, and....stairs [plural case] is ambiguous, and staircase appear in 3 distinct other songs. So, we are looking for that (one I believe) song with "stairway" .
The only reason I am sure now, reasonably, is its the only time I DO look in the lyrics tables of Wayne Francis' site, or alt.music.lightfoot search, that is, when I have an ambiguous case that comes up when someone guesses a song I had not envisioned, and it turns out to be ambiguous. Otherwise, I enjoy doing this off-the-cuff as do you I suspect. The answer to the clue stairway by song name is a surprise I did not intend, but having made the clue, Its not fair to change it of me. You'll know what I mean when you figure out stairway.

from COTS CD: "The Soul Is the Rock":

Say what you like to do what you can, live like a sheep, die like a lamb
Bats in the roof, cats in the hall, dust on the stairway, gnats on the wall
Big rain coming, big rain coming this way
Rain on the rock, rain on the rock, rain on the rock

RM ....LOL.... I like that response... have I been....using the font size and colors..a little too much.... lol ? Your answer, RM, is correct ! "stem" for Q72 - from 'Too Late For Prayin' .

It's interesting to me, what with all the previous discussion of "stemming", that maybe Lightfoot himself is also defining it by alternately using its root - "stem" - the tide, or to , as in programming (there's a stretch) stem or stemming is to conflate, or condense, or reduce to its smallest recognizable form eg stemming gets "stemmed" in programming likely to "stem". And to stem the tide, websters says "

Main Entry: stem
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): stemmed; stem·ming
Etymology: Middle English (Scots) stemmen to keep a course, from stem (of a ship)
Date: 1593
1 : to make headway against (as an adverse tide, current, or wind)
2 : to check or go counter to (something adverse)
— stem·mer noun

so. to "stem" the tide in Q72's song, would literally be to make headway against the tide, but maybe metaphorically, in the song, 'to stem the tide of broken dreams' - would be to , as in #2 above in the definition = to check or to counter..the tide of.... broken dreams...etc... I wonder if that in any way leads to Lightfoots use of stemming ?

aha - in the Visual Thesaurus - which makes a map of synonyms or miildly related words the father way from the word of choice... stemming.. in this case.... very close to it..is quite simply (scottish) (which Lightfoot has said he is of Scots origin..) "to take" as "take the gold that falls in the bar" - whaddya think ? stem means the same thing as one of the visual thesaurus many, many synonyms, but take is close in proximiy in the word map to stem, so they say its a primary synonym...., Sounds reasonable to me.....for stemming gold....

Thanks RM lol i get it.....

Clean-sweeps the lyrics Olympics by picking-up all 6 in a shut-out.! The "cannot" versus can't is a win not by K.O. but by decision, as that's close enough. Congratulations to the man from down under. Singlehandedly, he has saved the GL Corral again !

Meanwhile, Steve is back at the mountaintop retreat, and has beern furiously scribbling songs, lyrics, wadding up paper, throwing it out, starting over.... he wants to give the intrepid, the cognescente, and illuminati of the Lightfoot lyric, that these cunning....Feats of Leger Demaine...reap the reward of the valiant as once did the Knights of the Round Table. Even moreso, he wishes to further enLighthead them; as a dedicated public servant, he succesfully brings 6 more sets of encrypted word, phrase, idiome, or portion removed from great prose; that even the Socratic Philopher and the great Da Vinci himself would find a rewarding challenge to discerne the works of the great Troubadour by isolated word or phrase alone; written in song for the weary, the morose, the one who needeth hope, by the minstrele who is light of foot, pure and noble of heart, wise and learned of vast experience and countless readings of great works indeed !

....a runner takes the completed set of 6 new arcane clues down the trail from the remote and isolated outpost , where steve, triumphant but humbled by the magnificence of the prose he has been enLighthean'd by himself and given cause to contemplate; is in repose while simultaneously humming a single D-minor 7th over and over repeatedly, rocking back and forth, while perched in the 'Yurasses Dragon' position for meditation, which takes years of practice. He is held-up, cross-legged, "Indian-style" by just his thumbtips on the floor, having achieved Nirvana by being honoured to bring 6 more entries for the faithful, and the intelligentsia.

Will his diet-pepsi and power bars hold out ? Behold; let us witness great cogitations of lucid minds, that of the likes of Joveski, RM, formerlyLavender, Char, Jesse Joe, and JohninCt., and others of equal and Noble Soul have recently been engaged in races of wit, endurance, and razor-sharp thinking.

Of what type of song will the clues reveal ? From what apparent walk of life ?
Arts, Sciences, Mechanick Trades, notionall faculties ?, and whatever is excogitable by man, having Lightfoot's own Method ; by vertue whereof, the Learned of these latter times have orderly digested them : Yet hath none hitherto considered of a mark, whereby words of the same Faculty, Art, Trade, or Science should be dignosced from those of another by the very sound of the word at the first hearing. A Tree; a song, will be known by its leaves and hence its lyrics; a stone by its grit, a Flower by the fragrance, Meats by the taste, Musick by the ear, Colours by the eye, the severall Natures of things, with their properties and essentiall qualities, by the Intellect : and accordingly as the things are in themselves diversified, the Iudicious and Learned man after he hath conceived them aright, sequestreth them in the Severall cels of their understanding each in their definite and respective places. Prepare thyself for Questions 85 - 90, oh ye of faithful Light feet and spirit ! I've love Gord's 'Can't Depend on Love' from 'Old Dan's Records' . Probably my favourite track of all time. Until I saw the lyrics, I always thought the 2nd line of the first verse ended with 'I was only trying to get by with some of life's "many tears" ', not "ameneties". Also, the last line of verse one, ' I can't depend on love to be "fair to me" ', not "defend me". If you put those changes in it sort of makes sense. It gives the song a different meaning, and one I can identify with. As I've sung it to myself like that for about 30 years it appears right. Martyn Miles .

Martyn,

Ah - from Q 82 -"Can't Depend On Love" . I agree - those words work, like you say. I've always loved that song, and it has one uniqueness that stands out to me instrumentally. I don't think - off of the top of my head, that any other song has what I assume to be a HARP.It rips just a few times, but ads a light-hearted ..thing... to the song, making it unique in that regard to me.

The orchestration is beautiful, too, one of my hallmark reasons for liking the 70 - 78 period, and most specifically the 72 - 75 period. I'm glad this thread has had some general comments on the songs, too, as you chose; just as I have tried to inject some humour, some western matinee, and this last piece of hooey I did announcing Q's 85 -90, I found bits and pieces of that on the thread from some really weird and pretentious grad student in literature stuff that was hilarious.... and strange. Not that I am that way, lol. This guy that did most of that actually created a new universal language, but all he did in his long paper was talk about it, not reveal it. haha .

I pulled lines here and there, changed the wording, and added the Lightoot'isms in order that I not plagiarize. It might be wise of me anyway to cite it. But this isn't an academic site... ya know ?... I mean... we pull stuff off of the thread all the time, and the only citing we do is to hyperlink for people, I think. Still..... I'd hate to see my work -shudder if that was mine:eek: -that he wrote, if it were mine, torn-up, rewritten, and have humour and Lightfoot words replacing his "a little to serious stuff..." lol... Thanks for the input Martyn, and I hope to see you playing the quiz game herein.

Thanks, Jesse Joe ! Thinking of colours, I actually tried (harh) to do some of the colours in your thread on favourite album photo; for COTS, I used some Beige - the matting colour; and turquiose and denim blue - need no explanation. Part of why I like the cover painting/photo.

A subtle thing I would not have mentioned, unless someone brought it up, as you are here, is my signature, as a cartographer, I am steeped over the years in std. Federal Mapping colours. i.e. brown for contours on topos; cyan for deep water bodies, and light blue for shallow water bodies (medium blue for ocean), and make use of that only in my name geo steve.... helps me think of my work I love.... I otherwise am an idiote with color and art.... I'd be lost without programming and telling the computer to do it for me with algorithms !

p.s. notice how the color red appears to float off and up on the screen when it is on a blue background - they do not know why it does that, an optical illusion, but cartographers make use of it for on-screen presentations at times, deliberately - see your name above , the red is lifting off, and shifting up; all illusion. bbrewhahahaha :) I guess it goes without saying, a bit obvious, but one theory is its whats called red-shift, a principle of parallax used in determining how distant starts are in huge telescopes by stereo parallax involving especially red wavelengths. Makes sense sorta. Isn't it weird - like on your name ? Not everybody can see it, my eyes see double a lot, from injury and surgery subsequently, so my strabismus is half a bubble off, but you guys allready knew that lol.
Thanks Jesse Joe,

RM

Hey RM - Ron,

I've appreciated your humour, you've been a good sport in this...its a bit of work, too, to write, and try and make the responses fun and entertaining...
But I DO want to make it fair. I know you are at least half kiddin' around... but if any of this REALLY does seem unfair, I'd be happy to alter any rules-that-evolved casually, with a consensus-type of input. Seriously, I know you've played well in it, and I don't want you to get pi**ed of at something that seems unfair... I'm just tired and error-prone ole' buddy.... and I just want everyone to have a good time. Heck, I'd enjoy playing it myself !

I'd be happy to incorporate any Reasonable  suggestions for consistency and fairness. I don't know ya well enough to know when you are kidding around, and when you are actually taking umbrage at something.
So far I thought you were kidding, but a few others indicate I may be taking
your input too lightly. Don't mean to do that.

In your posts I have gotten to know you as an intelligent, reasonable good guy.... so I am willing to take your advice....I just need to seperate the wheat from the chaffe as it were - the humour from the actual umbrage... help me out....

Lets start with the obvious good advice that came up-

OK then....first, no more variations such as contractions versus not, or words broken into root words; components, to qualify. But, since I am making the Q's off of the top of my head, I can't categorically rule-out the ambiguous cases.... gotta take em if they are verbatim correct... otherwise, I'd be studying lyrics and take all the fun out of it for me.... The only time I look in lyrics at Wayne's site is when there is question of validity, or to swipe a patch of proof to cut and paste after the fact.... and then I have fun too by thinking of the clues in my head....I need to have fun too...... lol..... Sound fair to ever-buddy ?
OK Ron ?

Thanks for the well-reasoned input. I apreciate it. Any other ideas besides the above tightening up the rules on board this scow are welcome.

Cool everyone ? let me know...... HAVE FUN !

s'OK, Char,

The boys are full of pi**-and-vinegar tonight. They're regulars in here, and you know, they get a few beer's in 'em and...well boys'll be boys !:biggrin:

Actually, I am taking note of dissension whenever it transcends the line of humour thats evolved in the thread.... it has been funny...

Ron has some good points I allready layed down some of as stricter rules in what has been up-to-now wingin' it, as its all been in fun. But Gord fans take this stuff seriously.... I know I do.... I just want to have fun guys... I don't get to play....waaah ! help me out by not arguin' - we'll have a western-town shoot-out if ya want to again...lol !:cool::clap:

We can also pass the deal..... if someone else wants to give clues.... it'd give my head a rest... but I still am really enjoying it as long as you guys do this way... just holler.... Just like I thought, Lavender, I had hit "preview post instead of Submit reply ! duhhh! But, I page-arrowed back to my c 7 pm screen, about 20 screens back....and fortunately the pseudo-code was still in the reply white box, despite the screen refresh I had done before I reviewed pg7 here for the time I'd been gone. Phew.... thats a time saver... and some good ( I hope) clues...

BTW, - is anybody else having trouble with having to log back in seemingly at random, at short intervals ? Evidence being: upon hitting submit reply, or edit, it tells you to screen refresh, and then log back in. I ruled out systematic problems out of corfid, as this is not happening in other web sites with log-in requirements, and timed auto-log-outs, etc., so its something in corfid, or something "I" am doing while in corfid....Anyone else ? No matter... Well, here's what we're here for, not my dumb system problems lol.... Q's 97 - 102 !

Joveski,jj, RM, formerlyLavender, and others, regarding Q100. I gave you an unprecedented clue for a couple of qualities about it, and new forms of clues as addendums, however cryptic. What will be maddening to you when you see the answer, is how easy it is; whats hard is interpreting my evidently poorly-stated clues ! And thats not fun. If you want; I'll nuke it. But for one last shot, I'll line-up the original clues plus subsequent clues for it, see if it comes to mind for you all, if not; I'll nuke it and go to the next 6, so we're having fun !:headbang::biggrin:

Q100 clues thus far:

clue 1.... ("dots" before the clue means it is NOT the start of a "sentence". That's been the norm so far, until this one, where:

clue 2 "There"...... - I pointed out not only the novelty of no dots before the clue word, and the capitalization of the the clue word's fist letter, indicating its the start of a sentence, not just a proper noun, as there are no dots before the clue.

clue 3 "There".... a normal type of clue thus far in this regard- dots after the clue word(s), indicating the clue words) is/are NOT the end of the sentence, which would be indicated by one dot only ( has not happened yet. Like regular sentence structure.

clue 4 "There" being a common word, by no means unique, a characteristic of clues intended to be the case so far, makes the need for additional clues a minimum gesture. The word, capitalized, no dots to the left of it, we know by virtue of those facts that is the start of a sentence, and I'll add now maybe even the start of the song.

clue 5 I added a second word (or, phrase) for you quietly at the end of my evaluation of Joveski's 3-word triple-play, at the bottom of my post congratulating him, and referred to that second word in the "what is now a clue phrase" in the following post by me, to draw attention again. And that second word, in proper position, as given before, is Q100: There was.... (again we know this is the start of the sentence); self evident by capitalization of a non-proper noun - "There". Knowing as well in this post for the first time that it not only is the first part of a sentence in the song, the unprecedented clue of it "maybe the start of the song". So, if the song starts with: "There was..." - ? ! You know it well, very well.

clue 6 - The clincher. thus far we know "There was...." probably starts the song, and I gave the uhm..er... words describing a sound pertinent to the song's subject matter, which could only be inferred to be the case... by the otherwise meaningless statement I'd hope would stand out where I said in reference to the song "toot-toot ! - the toot-toot! being a new and unprecedented form of clue so far the game that falls in the category of, well here is the reduced , relevant webster's definition"
bottom line of the definition:

"onomatopoeia" - the noun form ; rarely used that I have heard
"on·o·mato·poe·ic" the adjective - common form - the quality of a word simply
when the word "sounds" like the noise that the word is to describe, such
as the word "hiss". The sound a snake makes sounds like the word "hiss", so the word is therefor on·o·mato·poe·ic

Relevance to clue in Q100 - 'toot-toot"! is on·o·mato·poe·ic; eg what makes the sound "toot-toot ?" - and apply that to the likely song name subject, not the starting words necessarily at all. This a BIG clue.,plus the likely start of the song "There was..... ( starting a song about something that goes toot-toot!" (and the song is about something that makes the sound 'toot-toot'. Its far simpler than you're imagining..... and [the song] is very defining for Lightfoot. If you don't get it from that. s'OK, we'll nuke it and go to Q's 103 -108

OK guys...what goes "toot-toot!" - Q100 Nuke that mother. Last hint:
(read this only if you are totally lost) - This song is almost always blown in concert by some newbie, with good intentions, that does not know to NOT clap at the great "pause" before the "last sentence". It seperates those who know his music from those who don't. Its THAT big of a song. BIG.
If you don't get it by now, I will go outside and , well, mutter something self-deprecating, and then likely apologize to you and ceremoniously hand-over the symbolic "deal" and let someone better-spoken than myself give clues ! lol

lol..lol.. :biggrin::clap::headbang::headbang:

more blah-blah from the dictionary

Main Entry: on·o·mato·poe·ia
Pronunciation: \ˌä-nə-ˌmä-tə-ˈpē-ə, -ˌma-\
Function: noun

1 : the naming of a thing or action by a vocal imitation of the sound associated with it [steve's note: "it" is the word that has on·o·mato·poe·ic qualities, as show in the adjective usage in 2:, next, such as words such as: (as buzz, hiss)] [steve's note2 - words that sound like the noise that what they describe makes, such as the word "splat" which sounds like something making the noise "splat", or "umph" when someone is hit]
2 : the use of words whose sound suggests the sense
— on·o·mato·poe·ic \-ˈpē-ik\ or on·o·mato·po·et·ic \-pō-ˈe-tik\ adjective [ as steve described above in yellow in 1 :]
— on·o·mato·poe·i·cal·ly \-ˈpē-ə-k(ə-)lē\ or on·o·mato·po·et·i·cal·ly \-pō-ˈe-ti-k(ə-)lē\ adverb

OK ok lol thats all anyone including me would ever want to digest for one song, including me. I hope you still like the song after this ! :):headbang:

To be fair, as aforementioned regarding Joveski's ambiguous case; yes he did in fact get a valid answer first, in so far as we are accepting ambiguous cases that are substantiated. But after proper accolades to Joveski, I made the distinct request to further the quest for CRT -that vast, Big Country, career-defining song for Lightfoot, despite his apparently stating that he would maintain that TWOTEF is his best work. BOTH, INDUBITOUBLY, very career great moments in his professional history. Thank you RM, for coming to the rescue here. And again Joveski, thank you for the hard work, coming up with a verifiable ambiguous case that is acceptable. jj, Im sorry, I was just trying to be helpful. The gang was moving so fast the difficulty of the questions have progressed correspondingly, but I still want it to be fun for the person just popping in or out. In specific, you wrote:

Q100 There...(despite the common word, note the capital "T", no.....'s to left)
__________________________________________________ _

steve...what did this part of the clue mean? (no....'s to left)

btw, these clues, They're making me crazy...and these other competitors are really on Their game....so There

OK, now that it is solved, it is easier to explain the nature of the clues, which worked. But, I gotta say, I think I will avoid starts of songs, starts of sentences, or ends of songs and ends of sentences, for this reason.lol

What that meant was:normally the clues all along have been words taken mid-sentence from sentences in lyrics, in songs. I don;t know the musician lingo, so please bare with me. To indicate the fact that the clue is mid-sentence, I would preceed the clue with dots i.e.: ......(clue) AND follow the clue with dots afterwards to indicate there are more words in the sentence, again that the clue simply is mid-sentence: .i.e.: ......(clue)...... - thats been the norm for well over 90 clues. I had one that cane up - Q100, for CRT, where the clue was: Q100 "There"....... - where by virtue of the word "There' having no dots (periods) to the left of the clue, ws the first case where I needed to communicate that the clue was the first word in the sentence, not a word mid-sentence. Further evidence I tried to properly show of this was capitalizing the "T" in "There", indicating in proper sentence convention that, unless a proper noun was used eg a name, the word was the beginning of the sentence- making 2 clues to that effect.

Conversely, and this has not come up, if there were no dots to the right of the clue, and there were to the left, it would indicate that the clue was the last word in the sentence of that line of lyrics, eg, Q100 could have ben given as: Q100 .........run , indicating the word run was the last word in the sentence ( I am going by memory) . This has not come up yet. The challenge for me making clues that make it fun, are to try to pick wors that are unique to one song, and are substantial enough to idewntifythe song from . We have gravitated from 3 -4 words per clue at the start of the game, to commonly one or two words for a while now.

What part of the clues os drivingyou crazy. beyond this context ? I would be happy to explain it, or change how we do it with consensus, as I have offerred all along. We did do a mid-course correction so far with your guys input of two things - no contractions changed to two words, conversely no two words made into a contraction to fit a clue. Thats one change. The other was we would not accept any variatins on the clue word, such as tense, (past, present, or future) in any event differing from the clue tense, andmoreover, we would not accept a word that contained the clue, i.e "another" as a offering for the clue "other" . This was a point RM rasied in humour, but in fact was valid, and previously too lax, making it unfair to more strict observers of verbatim clues and guesses that corresponded verbatim.

If you have any siuggestions to help make you not crazy lol I understand....
Just mention them, we'll run it up the flagpole and see who salutes it, and if
all fails or I grow burnt out on fair , good clues.... I have offerred to "pass the deal" as in poker, should anyone want to give clues a spin... That kind of covers all points raised thus far; I hope it does yours. If not, please let me now. We all just want to have fun. And are ! If not so for you...lets fix it !

Note patient friends and players of the quiz game, thanks for your patience, and if you wish to skip the odd nature of my last several days, simply jump down to yellow below, where Q'S 103-108 ARE ANSWERED.

OK troops. I have returned, and note with satisfation your thoughts were generous regarding my absence, speculating as to the possibility of Labour day weekend activities, etc. .

In fact, I've been sick, which would not normally stop my participation, but without excessive detail regarding other infirmities, my post-surgical optical acuity has been shot-to-he** until today.eg I could not see worth sh**.

But, as I was once again on the Isle of St. Kilda/Hirta, in the outer Hebrides, Scotland, where I got my snivles, and grew deathly ill while trying to relax and recover.Wrong climate for that. So I flew over to Skye Isle, and I tried to view the 280' tall Monument to Sir William Wallace "Braveheart", and the magnificent moument of Sir Robert The Bruce. Both are on the Isle of Skye, not far from Stirling University where our last 6 questions were verified, as the Isle of Skye is one of the last bastions, nay, home to the ancient Gaelic Cultures and traditions, and Lightfoot himself has said he is part Scottish, so its no coincidence some of the etymology of the more unusual terms we've encounterd cite a Scottish origin, or Celtic.

Nevertheless, I asked an abbot of the only standing, inhabitable structure of what were once three Chapels, now ruins of Monasteries, except that of St. Brendan, on the Isle of St. Kilda/Hirta a pair of islands considered "one" of the 14 outer Hebrides. Once again, the evil Lord of Dunvegan, who robbed my famil of its "Dun" components, and then made the first aluminum sleeved Sterling engined Horsless Carriage at the turn of the 1900's, and added the distiunguished vehicle's meltable engine wonder to his name as proud as he was, thus becoming Lord DunVegan.

This Lord was responsible for having the last of the ancestral inhabitants "evacuaated" by helicopter in a storm in 1937, thus leaving the island and its mysterious ruins empty all, but St Brendans Monastery that is. It is in this Monastery that the Abbot was willing to research several terms while my eyes were in ruin. My/His findings were confirmed at the University of Sterling, in the Inner Hebrides Islands, for veracity.

Thus, we have confirmation of questions of Q's 103 - 108 !.

However, after Lord Dunwith Vegas, er... Dunvegan, ostensibly evacuuated the isleof St. Kilda in '37, leaving the land in his posession less the sacred Monastery, Church, and its medaevil era-strong Library, lo and behold but what should be built there, but when the Commonwealth of Scotland commandeered the better part of the Isle, recompensing the heir-apparent to its salvage-rights maester;Lord Duvegan ! He pocketed some healthy notes from the Minstry of Defence, of all public agents, and low and behold, the Defence Ministry dug, err,, rather deep, and built several missile silohs, and also a missile tracking station, there to this day. The silohs are not discussed.

But we know. They maintain they are simply marching the 12 ft. fence topped with coiled barbed wire angled outward because the value of the fence is such that they must maintain one man there in charge, known as the "Minister of Dae Faences" -and his simple troops of "snaepers" who wear the colours of Lord Dunvegan's military plaid. Men coming upand down into and out of the ground through an airsealed motized 6-ft diameter "haetch" are said to be "simply makin' uise of the common facilities any man takes leave of several times a dae". Well, be that as it may, back to Q's 103 - 108.

q'S 103-108 entries for the last several days, now we are back on track, lest I die and be sent back to me' ancestral home of dear Scotland....

Q103 clue was ....handle.... formerlyLavender propsed the song "Now and Then" - which is correct ! Congratulations FornerlyLavender

Q104 Clue was ....tunnel so....and Joveski offerred the correct song "Ode to Big Blue" - congratulations Joveski !

Q105 Clue was....lovely river.... and jj offerred the correct answer of "Boathouse" and regailed us with a few variations on lyrics, verse , and simular=ted ssong sounds with the state-of-the-art "dee-de-dee-de-de-dee-dee" we've all done in a pinch for sound effects for our amusement and favourable impression upon our moderator, the lovely and stylish Char !:clap: Congrats jj !

Q106 Clue was....hide...., and Joveski " nails it with "If You Need Me"

Q107 Clue was....behind.... RM nails it precisely, with fore-and-aft dots in mind in the clue, precluding CRT, and leaving 'She's Not the Same" - Congratulations RM, well thought out.

lastly, Q108 Clue was ....fire...., and Joveski three-peats it with his iron-man fast-ball and brings in the Song
Don Quixote

A few comments and Q'S from the players emerged:Rm notes that dots preceeding the clue that otherside would have worked for CRT if the dots were only to the right of the clue...good call RM. "That left it She's Dot the Same"..screeech--*&66&%sorry folks that was "She's Not the Same" lol....

Conjecture in jest arose from the ranks as to: "those yellow dots may mean something different"., and also a reminder/question to me as to thinking I was going to change on ambiguous cases..my humour must have been poor , cause I made mention of running by ambiguities by a panel of wisemen, and in jest at that, cause if you thought these last 6 took a while, if we systematically ruled out ambiguity by peer-revue: 1. - They're be no-one left to play, and 2. It would take too long, and 3, I'd pass the deal LOL. No, -actually, the dots to the left and/or right, as RM reasoned, considerably cut down on the ambiguous cases, the other half is in the selection of clues,...but somewill still leak thru, hey its a game.... and I think its going fine with the dots now...really.... :) lol, but common -sense has prevailed, and for the record, as was the final interpretation, dot color doth not telleth a story...I've got thome hair on my tongue. And thank you's and apreciation go out to all the contestants who exhibited the patience, good taste, and sportmanship with such kind comments as deference to waiting for GEOman to make his rulings et al. Thank you. We'll knock Q's 109 - 114 out quick...

RM, IS ON THE BALL , AS IS formerlyLavender this AM. You've been patient, now you guys are jumpin' all over 'em. Truth be told, RM, yours makes three valid cases, a new record not only for an ambiguity, but particularly for one that ends or starts a sentence - i.e. no dots to left, or to the right. To be sure, I verified your entry in Wayne's World, as memory did not serve on this one; I tend to be weak on the UA period off the cuff. Sure 'nuff:

Q110 - ....to go

Sorry guys, I'm back. I'll spare you the details, Docs have been runnin' me through the wringer....so lets get back to it ! er....uhm... BTW - the reason all of you Flyin' Aces could not get Q114....shown by.... is cause ..er.. Proof positive I am not looking 'em up in Wayne's World or our own Database in corfid !

I mis-spelled it ! The moon, past-tense should have "shone" by suppertime, not "shown by"as the clue read. I am gratified no one looked there's up either - dang we're good.... boy did I blow it lol... I spelled shown phonetically, hearing the song in my head, and .. well.. what can I say but I am sorry, and for the wait as well. If'n you're still interested' I'll spare the colorful belated congratulations, other than one big congratulations to you all on the last set...and get right to the next set, Q's 115 - 120 ! I've missed this !

Here is what I got wrong, spelled correctly by the Man:
Born in the country and I like that country smile
Of the little girls and boys, they remind me of a child
That I knew and a big harvest moon
That shone by suppertime in the dusty afternoon
-Brave Mountaineers ~gl

OK

Moving right along with the next set 115 - 120:

Q115....don't know....

Q116....more neon....

Q117....drive all....

Jesse Joe - Congratulations !
You got me on that one... an ambiguous case I'd not anticipated, and I should have - I love that song. You cased-out the dots and capitalized first letter right to ID it as the start of a line, and as it turned out, that is correctly-so for the one I intended - No Hotel - where "Down around" starts several lines if memory serves, and it most definately does in Down around the :Bend in the Water, as you got correctamundo !

Way to go Jesse ! That's the first of our new 6 Q's 115 - 120. Q119 is done!

BTW - I've been doing Red, White, and Blue for fun and patriotism on the USA flag, but thoughtlessly it had not even occurred to me to respect other flag colours for other countries ! Well, realistically, I'd best not tackle that until circumstances permit staying ahead of you speed lyrics racers lol. Then maybe... HOWEVER - Note the word 'ambiguous' above in Red and White, deliberately for you, Mon Ami, pour la Canada ! - Your Flag ,by memory is of course the Red Maple Leaf on the White background, right ? How's my 36 year-old Francaise from 9th grade ? I probably said "good job, goat breath" and don't know it lol

Thanks for playing Jesse. Hope we can add you to the 'regulars' !

Jesse Joe
09-13-2008, 02:23 PM
Your francais is not bad at all mon amis... "la" Canada would be "le" Canada, but it is a very small error.

I didn't think of "The No Hotel" which was your answer and the right one... Notice I had put a (question mark) on my answer, as I was not sure if it was correct.

I do read them all but find them more difficult to solve than say; "Joveski" which is really good at this...

Dont be afraid to tell me if I was wrong Steve ...

Hey Ron, how you doin ? We meet again, in this town, that is not big enough, for the both of us, no ? Geo steve slips his duster back around behind his holster.... ..Naw... I won't go down that road again tonight...lol... it IS fun ,though. Hope you've been well. You, Sir, have gotten the second ambiguous case in this list ! I must be slippin.... That is a totally valid answer.
Why do I not think of the IYCRMM's ? The BIG ONES What am I, a mind reader ? lol...

Actually, I had intended "Ring Neck Loon", which works, too, thusly:
(ya like that little green/white ring neck thing in the song name ? )
GL to wit:
Ringneck loon, you can't rest, you're a loonie and you don't care less
Ringneck loon, my old friend, been a loon since he don't know when - Ring Neck Loon ~gl

But you get Q115 Ron, because we settled awhile back that if I surveyed for all possible ambiguous cases, we'd never play the game ! lol... then again, I think it was jj suggesting I build a relational database for GL lyrics. Very generous with my time, he is - lol j/k jj ! But,
Off-the-shelf relational database' are rife in "Vanilla" form, it would only take a little customizing and then of course the most laborious part -the data entry - but a coded info dump would do, the source of that GL dataset is what I am not aware of... maybe I'll ask Wayne Francis at Wayne's World...party on Garth ! I hope everyone knows I am kidding, the site is: Lightfoot! and if you havn't heard of it ( a new fan, or..you been on Mars or something) its well worth spending time at: http://www.lightfoot.ca ( Lightfoot!)

Wayne,& PlumbGuru2 (Now "Doug" I think), Shirley H.,& Talbot10 -do you remember?) was one of the originals at the GL chat that PRECEEDED alt.music.lighfoot and danged if I remember the name.... I was drooling rather heavily then in a body cast lol.....that was when I had the original "Mapman" handle ( now taken many times over, then GISMAN, now taken many times over, and of course now my current arcane handle you'd have to be a quasi-tellurroid monk to want..lol... that IS a relevant term... lol....other than "monk"

Back to Ron's winning, BTW. CONGRATULATIONS ,RON, Q115....don't know.... thus:

I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back
- If You Could Read My Mind ~gl

OK that leaves 4 more Q's 116,117,118,& 120

Jesse Joe, I'm sorry I must have actually overlooked your post when I wrote Ron's winning Q115....don't know.... answer for IYCRMM, despite the ambiguous case. As I know you are allready aware, even given this odd case of my not seeing your AND John's non-game post, Ron still wins it fair and square. The reason for writing this post is two-fold:
*Its a good illustrative case of the clue 'dots' factor to explain why your case would not work the way the games rules developed ( the dots are definitive as to where the clue word(s) can fit in the 'verse' of the song.
*Secondly, - to apologize for not responding in posted order. Lets go there
first. I can't figure out when I logged in and clicked on this thread's 'last page' -

I saw a fleeting glimpse of John's name and yours as I logged in and clicked 'last page' of this thread...thought I saw your names...thinking to myself 'hey great! some new players in the game'...then oddly, when the ostensibly current or 'last page' came up, all I saw was RM's - Ron's winning post for Q115. Weird. I am awaiting a third surgery for my eyes, from damage several years back in one of the ...accidents..causes crossed eyes in me. . but I have never had "fleeting, dissappearing things I could not see" . Don;t know if thats it, no matter, except for good manners in responding in chronological order. Sorry about that, Chief

Call IT VOODOO, I know, it had to be the new CERN LEP Hadron accelerator firing up. Those pesky protons colliding in opposite directions in a 15 mile loop through those "oops, another super-cooled magnet fell from the 300-foot ceiling" things that the former PO'd consortium, including some MIT whizzes, initially dug the tunnel for 300 feet deep and 15 miles in perimeter, and they'd allready progressed to magnet placement when the whole project changed hands, and MIT quipped [para] "All we know is they stole our tunnel..and then asked us to put the magnets in the rest of the way.."...lol... can't say as I blame 'em, but... seems it sent 'dark matter' spewing though the North American Continent. Spoof statement alert, to the left...If they'd just asked me, I could have told 'em Dark Matter has been known to exist in McDonald's Secret Sauce on the Big Mac for years. Easy.

Anyhoo, sorry for the overlook in proper response order. Nevertheless, as I mentioned as the other reason to post, this is a good illustrator of one of the few fine points of clue rules, and a few other minor things that can throw you, I thought you'd appreciate knowing...

You astutely associated "don't know" thusly: with
(My Notes in blue and in parens)

Q115- "It's worth Believin" (the clue actually read as)
(Q115....don't know.... ) ( ...not ....I don't know.... - as I see you highlighted in your "patch" as part of the assumed clue words )

There's a warm wind tonight
And the moon turns the tide
When the stars take their ride she'll be leaving
Where she goes, I don't know (down here, the "I" ) -

Note: clue numbers, and related words in patches when corect, and correct song titles etc are in yellow - to visually draw them together. i.e
Q115....don't know....
I don't know where we went wrong, but...etc.
- "If You Could Read My Mind" - gl

we are also requested by Char to cite the song name and lyrics patch - as you did.....

Maybe most helpful of all is the following - the 'dots" clues/rules.I'll show them by writing three fictituous clues just to show dot placement...

Q997....cool lyrics....
Q998....cool end of verse lyrics
Q999 Cool start of verse lyrics....

Above, in 997, dots to left and right, with no caps at start,( unless a proper Noun i.e. Susan would not count) means the word(s) are neither at the end nor the start of the verse....

In 998, There are NO dots to the right, but there ARE dots to the left, means the word(s) given ARE at the END of the line of verse.

In Q999 - the capitalized first letter ( and not a proper noun with an explanatory note given), AND NO DOTS to the left, but there ARE dots to the right means the line of verse BEGINS with the clue word(s).

Hope that helps. If I give those clues as above, assume there will NOT be another word filling at what you're thinking of as maybe the END or START of a verse, such as the "I" you kinda added in your mind ( it IS in the song) but is does not make the clue "end of verse qualified", per the dots, in that case.

I hope this helps, actually it all makes sense for the players after once or so they actually all have said they thought of a song such as you did, but KNEW per the "dot rules" it could not have been the answer....so , other than a mistake here or there by me, for 120 songs/clues , its gone pretty smooth after we all kinda thought through what ended up as the dot rules...lol

Thanks for playin Jesse Joe.... please play more "Mon amis, pour le Francaise" - hey how 'bout them French apples now ?:headbang::biggrin:

I had previously found that trying to change a thread title is a waste of effort especially if others have already replied. Instead you have to delete your original posting (which then deletes the entire thread then start over), one reason as well as trying to catch typos that I try to remember to draft my postings and save them on my hard drive
Now I am far from sure that there are two threads.
I now see that posting #1 by Steve on this thread:-

Ron , Jesse, John, and any other pour soul who came in to this fun thread to have fun today...apparently one person has had trouble - I will check it out.
I have been whacked in and out of a seizure for many hours since this morning....lucky I have not fallen out of the chair...lol...just glasses and hat on the floor. Sit tight everone.... no problemo.... breath deep John ole buddy.... I check it out, what is happening, apparently only to you, which is no reflection on you at all, nor any inference... I am having a little trouble here myself....so bear with me.....please....while I see....

QUICK ANSWER RON is Q115 and Q119 are answered, I'll check it out well, too.

I'll catch us up in a moment on current status. Jesse Joe's entry warranted some help so he'd know the dots rules, after posting that, (and everything going just fine as usual in and out of the thread, for you guys too as I understand, but John - I will look at what you are saying, and see...nobodoy else has had a problem....but I'll see.... thread's been puttin' along just fine.... : ) ) Hasn't it for you other guys - and gals ?

Sorry for the delay since this morning....after about 8:45 or somewhere in there, I had a seizure at my desk here, for several hours.....all is well now but I look back in and all hell has broke loose apparaently over just your posting trouble, John. I'll see what I can do.... my head is still clearing. These darn seizures suck - from the head injury. I am just coming back around a little while ago... what the Sam HE8* is going on ? lol.......

we all have been havin' a great time !

John - lemme see what is happening to you. I will, just breath deeeep. lol...please....

we have....fun in here.... lets not change that... please.... I'll check it out OK ?

Nothing is "single-handedly broken".

Ron - again, sorry for hang up since this morning....and to jesse et al trying to play, and to you too John... sounds like you are trying to play.... thanks !

John, are you upset so many have been having fun ? Or are you REALLY having posting trouble ? - seriously - no one else is having trouble with a 'parallel universe thread".

I do know i SAW your (John) and Jesses's posts this AM, then I did not, but I was just starting to have a seizure a little later.... i dismiss that, as I still posted just fine to reply to Ron and Jesse. John, while you were ranting and raving, I was preparing a glowing post to YOU, turned out 12,000 characters of welcoming you into the thread...apologizing for the delay in overlooking your post out of order this AM, and then I had the seizure... I've come back from it now, only to find you ....ANGRY ? in a simple lyrics game thread we just have fun in ? come on John, lighten up. I WILL see if there is a parallel thread.. hang in there. I am trying to see straight right now....take it easy on me please....my hands are still shaking from the damn seizure....

Char - if you see any of this falderall.... we've been having a great time all along... no thread parallel universes... but I will diligently try to see what happened to John, as he is a value'd member like anyone else...and I thought.... a friend...too.... come one, John !

sit tight everybody - lemme poke around... a few minutes, and I'll post simple game status in a few minutes.OKee doke ?

For what its worth, I've been in and out a few times of the seizure before I cleared my head about 20 minuts ago , fully coming too. Its scarey..Please ease off a little John OK ? I do appreciate it. Really. OK back in a few....

I'm following along as best I can amongst the recent chaos and trying to concentrate on the actual postings that are relevant to the game.

keep on keepin on..

Sir John - play nice.. I don't understand what all the fuss is about or why you'd bother taking the time to harangue/question Steve instead of using that time to play the game .. this is the thread for the game and the posts are duly noted at 212 whether you believe it or not....

Steve and all game participants - Resume play.. ;)

Everything is working fine. I had a post prepared for you John that explains and/or asks more Q's re: VanHorne (?) , Archie (?), & Sly - is Sylvestor Stallone.

THE GAME IS AGAIN IN SESSION

MY THANKS TO THE LOVELY AND TALENTED VANNA, er... I MEAN CHAR,
Game Moderator pro-temp this evening, while all matters of any duplicitous threads were investigated by yours truly, and I carry news from the French-Swiss Border near Geneva:what we believe to have been the case - "drifting dark matter" from the HADRON Collider in CERN - moved across the North American Continent. It took the form of secret sauce in Big Macs once again, so the multi-national consortium has a case of
Plausible Deniability.

Now that we are moving forward, I would like as point of order to review the answers while I was outside looking for two cats this evening, on the edge of Mtn. Lion posted Sanctuary. In other words...I'm lucky to be here tonight, and still moving as well from earlier. Thank you again Char.

Firstly sumptious apologies for creating the confusion.
I genuinely thought that there were two threads going here,
My own considered research now reveals that it was indeed Steve himself who sorry to say confused the issue
My evidence is that on page 9 (the first page)(if like me you have the replies listed as newest first otherwise it
will be on page 1) Steve started this thread with posting number one with the subject now showing there clearly as
"Lightfoot lyrics challenge for GL cognoscenti - give it a try ! "
in that initial posting
which was on August 5 timed at 07:49 AM
steve had introduced his idea for his brilliant quiz under his original subject title
"GL Lyrics fan(atics) fun quizzers and more !"
However where he nearly caused an explosion was when later in the day according to his stated reason for editing his posting
"Last edited by geodeticman.5; 08-05-2008 at 06:41 PM. Reason: change thread name garner more interest"
that was unfortunately an incorrect action:-
I have previously found that although when editing a posting you can certainly try to edit the subject line the thread resolutely
retains whatever subject wording/title you originally used . I know because more than once after posting a new thread myself
I have noticed one of my stupid typos in my subject line and tried like Steve to edit it out.I found that the ONLY way to
correct this and then only if nobody has yet replied is to delete your first posting and thus the entire existing thread and start
over. That is what in this case young Steve SHOULD have done.
In fact the first reply by JohninCT on 08-06-2008, 08:57 AM
and one by steve himself at 08-06-2008, 09:19 AM
and ALL subsequent replies
still bear his original subject title
as was also his second batch posted on the next day 08-06-2008, 09:36 PM
Anyway having said sorry I will now address one of the outstanding posers
hmm Q116....more neon....REMAINS UNANSWERED
I did think of Go Go Round but without cheating I think that goes "Oh the neon lights were flashing..."
I cannot think of anything more illuminating so to speak so did Steve get the words wrong??
I am still amazed that there have truly been so many replies 200 plus for 19 questions!!I obviously omitted to read this thread for a long time and frankly when this issue arose I baulked at trying to check every page because as Ron knows you need to be named Job to wait while all the pages load on a dial up.In fact I had quickly looked at the first page using my "wondertoy" Nokia N800 Internet Tablet on WIFI broadband thanks to an open (unsecured) local connection it found . More about that later
SORRY everybody. Carry on guessing.
and talking of the French/Swiss border near Geneva as Steve was
I once had a most enjoyable week's skiing at the futuristic looking
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1410/1010115340_2fc0da1212.jpg?v=0
French ski resort of Avoriaz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avoriaz) a.k.a. Les Portes de Soliel where the piste map shows that the trails criss cross that border (that link is to the Avoriaz wiki}
click the small picture on that wiki page to get an idea of the awesome architecture of this "car free" resort:-
No not Carefree but no Highways there to be sure!!
see two splendid aerial views/piste maps are at:-
http://www.digital-holidays.com/shared/img/resorts/Images/ResortImage/France/Avoriaz/Avoriaz_T_map.jpg 990x690 pixels 252741 bytes
and
http://www.thechaletexperience.com/assets/images/Maps/PDS_pistemap.jpg 1300x 1142 pixels 351883 bytes
both aerial views actually show Lake Leman on whose shores is Geneva
Just looking at those maps brings back so many splendid memories of that vacation
well except that one of the crossing points meant descending what looked like a shear drop dubbed "The Wall of Death"!!
That was my second taste of skiing in France
(Of course I had 4 years of it in Montreal too)
I later went on to L'Espace Killy at Val D'isere/Tignes

Sir John, apology accepted...

BUT please keep on topic - my brain is gonna explode with all of the extraneous chaos and pictures!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea about problems with postings or what should or shouldn't have been done in titles etc. and playing the blame game on the board is not necessary.

It is giving me a major headache to just get thru your posts about that stuff..

Please post an answer (if you indeed do have one) to the quiz and leave it at that..

Oops sorry to upset you madame moderator
I was NOT trying to play the blame game .I was just pointing out that once a thread is started you cannot change its subject title wording by simply editing your original posting which I think is a perfectly valid point to raise here and useful information to bear in mind for the future
As for guessing I agreeI did rather bury my answer to phrase 116 ...more neon...
"I did think of Go Go Round but without cheating I think that goes "Oh the neon lights were flashing..."
I cannot think of anything more illuminating so to speak so did Steve get the words wrong??"
and I couldn't help thinking of Avoriaz when I read Steve's aside remark about "and I carry news from the French-Swiss border near Geneva" so having looked up some pictures I thought others might find them interesting too. apologies again if I was wrong

OK guys - short and sweet to get caught up. I've been in Denver most of the day on medical issues, and so I know you've been waiting again today. We've been keepin' up fine, something thats not been a probem, until about Labour day...and several days thereafter, and yesterday -my medical, today -my medical - sorry folks lets address status on the Q's right away. Then, a few words of keepin our eye on the ball of FUN.. I'm gonna skip responding to the bait bu**sh**, and at least the regulars will have fun, and add Char to the new players. John, I DO hope you chose to play and have fun, apology excepted most 'sumptuously' :) I think was the word you used - OK no sweat amigo.
John, also all the regulars know when I'm kidding - you used to, but thats OK, - the secret sauce in Big Macs, stemming !!! - from the Dark Matter fun thing ; fun Geneva; its all-too-familiar to the folks who play regular - we have mini Western shoot-outs with responses and such, and question/clue preludes here and there , and such non-sense - all in fun and no meant to confuse anyone or hurt there feelings.

I'm sure sorry you thought I actually went to Geneva , and Dark Matter wound up in Big Macs....but...lol.... I was only kidding.... lol - I'm sure you knew that.. lol :)

We are adjusting to new players who are non-familiar with the status quo and the little mini-culture of humour in here , too, so having said a quick word about that to clarify, hopefully all new players will have the same kind of fun we've been having, and everyone will have more fun.

But, I won't even touch the erroneous subject of parallel universes/threads..... lets just play eh ?

Q115....don't know....Answered correctly by Ron IYCRMM

Q116....more neon....Answered newly in my absence correctly by jj,

Q117....drive all.... Answered correcty as awarded by Char to Ron, who wisely kick-started things while I was out - as in out cold - seizure....lol....
with:Never Say Trust Me
as in:
"I can DRIVE ALL night".

Q118....it's me , answered with humour by jj, but correctly alluded to, aided by Ron's by-the-book assistance :) : 'It's Worth Believin'As in:
But I've got a funny feeling that it's me
It's worth believing

Q119 Down around....Answered Correctly by Jesse Joe , with Bend in the water, as in :

Come on Pearl, come on Kitty, if you feel inclined
Down around the bend in the water, bring your fishing line

Hey guys - I tried to answer everyone's posts, and encountered some necessary explanatory notes for new or infrequent players, so the response to ALL of your posts for Q's 121 - 126 are in two parts, first, this talkety-talk part, then second, and the post after this, are the specific clue and responses winnings, Correct Answers, a few notes where necessary etc.

This post contains a thought on a new rule if you don't mind the read thru this one, before the meat-n-potatoes in the next post. The sum total in Characters of the whole shebang in one file exceeded 10,000 characters, so here is the "first half" lol: Forgive the duplicitousness of the: Hey guys et al,
I'm too tired to edit more....You guys really nailed em....Ron I like your thought....Joveski your idea too, and welcome Oh, Linda ! Part 1:

WOW, you guys nailed this 6 ( I had a feeling we might have a few new players, so I TRIED to turn down difficuly a little, to not drive away new players; turns out it was not even CLOSE to neccesary ..lol :clap: Holy etymolgy, Batman !

You guys got them all in what is the 2nd-fastest time, I think..... though I must be very, very, very sure, or ....I could........ be wrong !

In chronological order, as timed by the cesium-A "atomic clock" in Boulder, Colorado, (but broadcast from Fort Collins by the National Bureau of Std's ) a.k.a. The People's Republic of Boulder, Colorado, where Birk's, organic foods, vegans (not just vegetarian vegans, but "veegans" [phonetically spelled here], but Vegans, from the star system Vega, who are the only ones who can afford to buy a house in Boulder, and run breeder reactors to fuel their "green" houses) , and all the above are as "commonplace there as those little , uhm, things on the end of your shoelaces are...there's a NAME for those..."... - steve looks to stage right, at the band, ala Johnny Carson, for an affirmation from the band-leader on the name of those little things on your shoelaces, who shrugs 'I don't know', and cues the drummer for a rim-shot - buh-da-bummp...for lack of something constructive....

Well we have a shut-out - players correct on 7 ! , "wrong" guesses zero...( 6correct songs as I "heard them in my head" PLUS another correct and workable song making 2 correct songs for ONE clue.

I think we need a democratic meeting of the minds on this. We've been sort of wingin' it on this. Notes below outline how we've done it in the first 1/4 or so of the game, and a note on how we've done it the latter 3/4 or so of gaming. I feel no need for having to many rules, but with the goal of having fun, we don't want anyone feeling cheated. I call for a Lightfoot Lyrics Game Summit vote-by-post-proxy :clap::biggrin: establish a majority rule, cause I don't want anyone to feel cheated. So, what do you guys say to voting done on a post-by-poster basis , on who you think should "win" a given clue: "A", "B",or "C" ?, WHERE:

A: is a vote to say BOTH people win it, BOTH songs that WORK, so the facts of the lyrics are the objective and not subjective "no question about it" rule - letting Wayne's World, the "Lightfoot! site" be my question verifier as usual. Regardless of who got one that WORKS first. A.K.A a vote for "everyone with a song that WORKS CO-WINS the clue, as NOTED below. The downside on this has not happened, but there could I suppose be a rush of several jokers (all players thus far excepted) posting the right song AFTER they see someone post it first. This has NOT been a problem in this friendly game. As long as it stays friendly, we won't have that problem.

B: is a vote to say FIRST person to get the song I'd ENVISIONED wins the clue, but that presumes that no one questions the SUBJECTIVE case as I call it, which you've all been gracious enough to do so far, but I don't expect you to, especially when we run that by new players, or ones that don't "know" me...

C: is a vote for FIRST song that WORKS WINS the clue, whether I'd envisioned that one or not is the case. THIS HAS BEEN the informal rule for the latter 3/4 of our gaming so far I've been using.

NOTE: We were originally using the 'everone with a song that works CO-WINS the clue' for awhile in the first 1/4 or so of gaming.

NOTE: Then we shifted to "FIRST SONG that WORKS WINS" for the latter 3/4 or so of the game

I will abstain from voting in the interest of avoiding personal bias in the game.
I don't think its a big deal at all currently. The question just came up in the form of "hey, I thought the ambiguous case was going to be avoided" - which is a fair question, its just not practical to rule out ambiguity now that we are down to 'expert'-level ONE and TWO word clues..... that fit a couple songs frequently. So, I just want everyone to feel its fair....it came up....no biggee.
Also - if someone reads an inconsistency, or certain illogical error on my part above, speak up ! My falleth go before my Pride !! lol

I'll use that one 'one more time', this time, but I'll be looking for "Summit Meeting votes posts" lol  :headbang:

whats YOUR vote ?

Mass response Q's 121-126; part II Meat-n-Potatoes Part

ONWARD TO IMMEDIATELY GERMANE STUFF: i.e. THE GAME !:headbang::biggrin:

In chronological as posted order:

Q125....in love.... Char ANSWERS CORRECTLY posting a song that WORKS, however not the song I'd imagined,no matter by the way we've been playing, she takes it- CONGRATULATIONS Char !
on 'A Lesson in Love' as shown below:

We will let it all hang out, go hand in glove
Life was meant to live and learn, a lesson in love, a lesson in love ~ gl

Q121....my life....Oh, Linda ANSWERS CORRECTLY with a qualifying song, ambiguous case with her choice that WORKS: 'Anything For Love'
CONGRATULATIONS Oh,Linda, as shown below: however, note in this case as a case-in-point
of a few things that are helpful to know in the game:
This one is an interesting case that is illustrative of the 'dot rule', certain parts of the song qualify, others don't, look back in the the thread to the dots rule, and really all that means here is that the lyrics CLUE can't be at the END of a verse, or the BEGINNING, given that there are dots on both sides of the clue, but as you pointed out, the clue appears several places, here is a place that qualifies just fine ! These funny dot rules exist ONLY to identify, as help to you, when a clue word(s) are at the beginning, mid, or end-of-verse...

Shortened clue rules ( excepting cases of proper nouns)
Clue.... no dots at beginning, first letter is in CAPS, so that means the clue word(s) are found at the beginning of the song ( the song in my mind at the time of clue creating by me). *You* might find it elsewhere, and in another song. BTW - you DID . You'll see when I show Joveski's answer ! ....clue no dots at end, means the clue word(s) are at the end of a verse.

....clue.... means the clue word(s) is mid-verse, thats all !

Cause in my life, here in my mind in it now shines
A guiding light, never again will I lose my way
~gl
A winning patch of lyrics as per Wayne's World; LIGHTFOOT !
BTW - thanks for playing Oh,Linda !

Q126.... a dream.... Oh Linda ANSWERS CORRECTLY
CONGRATULATIONS Oh,Linda
with:
'Clouds of Lonelineness'
lyrics patch:

You had a dream, so they had one too
You turned away, they were untrue ~gl

Q121....my life.... ambiguous case....the one I had in mind.....Joveski !so even though Oh,Linda got a working song first, you should be noted for a qualifying song and a CORRECT ANSWER,
Lyrics patch:
I spent most of my life outside in the driving rain
I was in some one-horse town just waiting for a plane to take me back ~gl
Great minds think alike !Joveski

Q123....was daylight....Joveski nails it with a CORRECT ANSWER ! as in:
'Stone Cold Sober'
Lyrics Patch:
I was stone cold sober, it was daylight in October
When you reached across the table, put your hand upon my shoulder ~gl

Q124 And sometimes.... Joveski nails a third ! With a correct answer AGAIN !
from: 'That Same Old Obsession'
Lyrics patch:
I think of my lost love from over the sea
And sometimes I've wondered, if she thinks of me

Trifecta Joveski !
CONGRATULATIONS X 3 Joveski ! HS !

BTW Joveski - the "Death Challenge" sounds fun ! I'm IN

Ron ROFLMAO :clap::clap::clap::biggrin: I hear ya lol
Sounds intriguing. I'm in.......but the rules must be very, very, VERY specific. Otherwise, the death toll could wipe out Corfid.

Mass response Q's 121-126;

ALL THAT REMAINS IN THIS 6 IS Q122....yesterday

Yesterday's a memory, today is just a friend.
Mountains and Marriane

All credit should go to jj. The rules for answering may be a little 'over his head.'

I appreciate your extending dishonourable mention my way, rm

the rules and irregulations are definitely beyond me...thought instead of answering in the form of a question, I'd answer in the form of a clue...

btw, for Q122, first thing that came to mind was APPT - "Yesterday is gone..." but I believe that both Jenney's and my own responses are a violation of rule 122.4 (ie. the dot dot dit dit dot dot rule)

Char - lol aglets huh? OK ....thanks !:biggrin:

Jenney - good try with Mountains and Marianne, but with the dot rule, which all joking aside the regulars Do understand....lol Q122....yesterday - means that the word "yesterday" HAS to be at the END of the verse, because off the dots coming BEFORE the word, and none after (I've EDITED THIS COMMENT tueday evening, because I caught a typo in my clue and dots format I'd shown you here a few lines above, this explanation NOW READS CORRECTLY a few lines above), I had typo'd it incorrectly no doubt to your confusion and others - my apologies.... - I HAD SHOWN the dots in my explanation as coming AFTER the word when I posted this originally, meaning 'yesterday' would be by dot indication at the beginning, yet as the clue was originally show in my list of 6 Q's, and now corrected it in this thread...it should, as does read CORRECTED as a few lines up as (clue) Q122....yesterday - indicating it the word(s) must be at the END of the verse line, NOT incorrectly by me this WAS WRONG - (fFORMER WRONG CASE AS PRE-EDITED TONIGHT)- Q122 Yesterday.... (WRONG) - indicated by dot convention earlier in this post only the incorrect clue format, suggesting the word INCORRECTLY BEFORE EDITING THIS POST:
WRONG - AS IT DID READ IN THIS POST :Yesterday...., noting the caps as well, HAVING SAID THIS INCORRECTLY BY DOTS AND WORD CLUE orientationis at the beginning of the verse line, -WRONG - which HAS BEEN CORRECTED above, one more time as I know this seems cryptic, but its really not, the CORRECT DOT AND CLUE orientation, again, (even though I realize the song has been posted as a winning answer farther down in this page, but here in this post, for clariification to you ( I hope lol) is CORRECTED IN THIS POST NOW TO READ:
- Q122....yesterday , IS THE CORRECT dot and clue convention, as re-typed/edited above in this post as it should be - my dialogue on what it should be was right, but I had typed the clue word and dots wrong, OK -so one final statement of correct format , consistent and CORRECT with the rules is THIS CORRECTED VERSION AS ABOVE, redundacy lest there be any mis-understanding -CORRECTED CLUE: -
- Q122....yesterday ,*CORRECT* note the word is at the END of the dots and hence at the end of the verse. I hope that helps. Sorry again Jenny, and anyone else that read it closely. I know it is solved below in the thread lol...

jj - I made sure you got special recognition for the trifecta - AND getting the ambiguous case RON aided and abetted on lol from you - as THE SONG I had in mind.... I re-wrote a mini-list of dot notes... your joking and not really unclear on 'em are ya ? I can see how a person would be - I''ve written 'em out like 3 different formats of HOW I described them LOL - you are ACIN the game, man !:clap:

Everybody on Q122 think "spiritual essence" - a wish Gord has for the world.... circa 1973 - 1974......

The game is back in black --- can't wait to do Q's 127 - 132 !

Same here with APPT, I find this game really difficult...

I thought of Mountains and Marianne too but it is "yesterday's" a dream (yesterday is) NOT "yesterday" ..
I didn't think about end of sentence or dots..
lol

I didn't think about end of sentence or dots..
lol

Are you looking for another rule ? I propose the "comma rule". Just a thought (but I really don't think we should go there).

LOL EVERYBODY -sorry for my error in explanation to Jenney in post several posts above - I've edited a few minutes ago;a long explanation, but I wanted TO BE SURE the WRONG VERSUS RIGHT clue convention was understood - I'd typo'd the response to Jenney above, but its now correct... once in awhile I get a clue orientation with dots typed wrong maybe at just one post in the process of answering attempts posts, here and there..:biggrin:

I hoped this helps anyone who reads the edited version. If you have a good feel - skip it, (the edited and corrected note to Jenney's shot on Q122 with 'Mtns and Marianne') its a long and redundant explanation, lest there be ANY misunderstanding by new players. I see the new players are starting to get the truly straightforward dots and clue convention after you play a few times.... no one ever said the game intrinsically is easy - or it woud not be a challenge for lyrics buffs.... but you guys don't need clue and dot errors typo'd be me lol...:confused:

By reading your subsequent posts it seems we're close to getting smoothly back on track after the possible cataclysm lol - good video Jesse Joe - and I am sorry the game seems difficult Jesse - we've been rolling smoothly along until, the event... but I'll not dwell or mention specifics on that..... if ANYONE needs a SHORT rule set again on the dots..quite simple... dots before, dots after, or both, the 3 cases just help you know where in the verse the clue word(s) is/are. It gets easier after you play awhile.:headbang::headbang:

Ron lol I agree no need for another rule, except maybe are there any takers on the: who should win it when there are multiple correct entries, often of different songs ? If no one posts a vote on this, I'll continue with FIRST WORKABLE SONG PER THE CLUE takes it.
Works for me.... AS RON SAID:
Are you looking for another rule ? I propose the "comma rule". Just a thought (but I really don't think we should go there). lol agreed.

Char - I am glad you're getting it so well.....but we've discussed it more.... anyone feel free to PM me if any attempt at clarification of 'dots and clue' rules has only muddied waters for you lol..... I'm happy to help.... it really is fun and has been, and is again. just takes playing awhile ,the regulars previously and currently have astounded me at what they get from ONE WORD at times.......newer players easing into place -

Jesse Joe hang in there.... its just now at a harder level of clues, intrinsically - at just one or two words....than when we started...with 3 -4 words early on....:headbang:

Joveski -
Day before yesterday? lol
