So, I hope it wasof some interest to some ppl, and of some use to you, Linda, on lyrics thoughts in general.

Yes indeed. Just had a chance to catch up with all 3 posts in detail. What I appreciate about being here, Geo Steve, is that we're all here to share in our appreciation for one of the great master story tellers of our time, and that alone makes it a welcoming place to check into now and then. Above all else, that's why I'm here.

The fact that this group has been together as long as it has tells me people really like it here and enjoy each other very much. Good-natured ribbing is usually a very good sign! And Char, you do such a nice job moderating this feisty bunch! I hope to meet some of you along the way as some recent concert-goers have on the west coast.

Regarding your comment on the life of any particular thread, I think this one will go on for quite a long while. I, for one, am enjoying it! If mine winds up on "Corfid's floor" that's ok....a short-lived thread is not a bad thing:)

Now then, yesterday I received a copy of "Beautiful, the Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot" CD I ordered online last week. I'm off to pop it in my CD player....anxious to hear new renditions on some very fine classics. Thanks Geo Steve. And thanks to all for the warm welcome.

For some reason I recalled observing how early they sprang up in New York City when I lived just outside the city limits about ten years ago. As I thought about the contrast of soft flowers against the concrete backdrop I thought about, of all things, roses! Which led me to...

Thank you for all the kind words and thoughts.

But, I think you are underestimating, in humility, the longevity potential for your thread. As I mentioned in my Nebulous Award-Winning part 2 of 3, your
intrinsic re-invent concept on demand is your ace-in -sleeve to longevity.

This thread, on the otherhand, despite ppl enjoying some general conversation more, which I like, has a built-in ending - all the songs....in theory...it should at some point, when all 300+/- songs + a new (thanks to Menda )category I had not consideed - Unreleased and Publisher's Songs yet to go.


But it still has a built in limitation, all the songs, plus talk and some duplication that has occurred allready - due primarily to me thinking of clues of the top of my head - and what do I hear ? My favourites ! I am forceably - oh ! twist my arm - not ..lol..trying to cram the others by doing a listening marathon that you, Char, myself, and about 3 others have commented on in a favourable way - as in I'm glad I did it anyway - game or not - and "I hear songs in a whole new way now" - and variations,. I hear that now, several times from others, as you mentioned.

Good thoughts to plow forward with,thanks ! Your thread is great ! We could be mistakenly accused of being the 2 stores next door 2 each other forming both the Chamber of Commerce, and the Mutual Admiration Society,...lol... but I am sincere in what I say - yours has a lasting play to make whenever u need - shift themes ! They love it ! I can tell.... They come in here like a comfortable pair of shoes now...which isi nice, and enjoyable,.... but the shoes...are gonna wear out !. That rhymed, and I did not know I had iambic pentameter , I better see the doctor. :biggrin:

BTW - very picturasque description of SE Michigan Autumn, and Tulips,both THERE and IN NY, as I read it ? , the stark backdrop of concrete with tulips is pretty strong imagery, I can see why you like much of Lightfoots imagery-based lyrics... I like the evergreens and mountains, snow, and blue-sky imagery in nature in his lyrics - I can smell the pines, feel the wind, and bask in the snow-caps imagery on a hot summer day.

And you know, there is, all joking aside, nothing feminine or masculine per se about nature at all, that is something I have never heard discussed B4 in here, tho it probably has, that of his lyrics,when prosaic ,i.e. Roses and dewdrops, etc., only a man who is lacking in self-confidance would IMO be intimidated by that. I'm going back to good ole' free-ware Linux-Unix O/S - and write my own f*8c*in* database, and plug in my mapping software from ESRI to that - runs stronger in Unix by far. Higher thu-put, almost zero O/S-based and apps crashes - as long as the apps do not need emulators - crash-causing on anything, dramatically lower sys depedencies, all tru 64 bit, command-driven with CLI 4GL +5GL shareware (CLI on the 4GL) built-in programming languages with no planned obsolesecence - its all incremental in upgrading, the kernel/core stays the same.

I don't like this desktop's Windows Vista - my Windows XP (2000 redux) Professional/Office ran much more reliably on my Dell portable dumbell set (11 lbs lol)- MooJave project or not - thats salesmanship is all. I DO like the tabs - I no longer USE more than one window consequentially - 8 tabs per window - can do same in Linux with programming =I am so tired of crashes in this perfectly good dual core upper-mid level desk platform; I want to run on my Dell XPS Laptop again - in repair - but Linux here I come, with simultaeous O/S capable strength, run windows when I need 2 - despite footprint - I have lots of disk and tons of RAM on the laptop - ,more than a lot of 'High End' desktops. Right now, it's gorgeous here in Sacramento - (when I'm joking around, I call it Baja Canada!) 1-1/2 hours from "The City" (San Fran) and 1-1/2 hours from Lake Tahoe. It's in the mid-80's which, because of the kack of humidity, makes it incredibly comfortable. Cold at night, though, dropping into the 50's at this time of year. Trees just starting to change - we get Fall around our Thanksgiving, which is the last Thursday in November. Fall's my favorite time of year but this Thanksgiving, I'll be in Tahiti! Yea! Have wanted to go since 1962...We can "visit" Fall by driving about an hour to a place called Camino (in the foothills of the Sierras), to eat caramel apples and apple pie (huge apple orchards up there) and smell the lovely Fall smells...Hope you are enjoying this most lovely time of the year! Ron - I've gone back for a third time to your myspace to listen to your music and check on the CD - I've answered my own question; yes I see it is available for a very REASONable price - sorry, it just occurred to me you've probably heard that all your life !

I gotta say again - I like your music - jj's comment in quote at top says it all on design of the space, too. The song I like the most oddly had the fewest listens, all having a lot of listens,a relative thing is all. 'The Empirical Approach' - I was naturally drawn to that the name containing the word Empirical - the approach I was taught in my line , as in all sciences, or other endeavours, - to study and evaluate by observation - and what better way to learn life's lessons than by observation over time, affording wisdon when interpreted with acumen.

I liked that song SO much, is why I found it odd it had a hit ratio of maybe 1/10th that of the the others, perhaps because it is at the bottom, and ppl often have short attention spans - a pandemic spreading across the nation - probably why life - in the media - on provider home pages - is being reduced to 5 , 15, &60 second sound-bites and 'video-bites' - I think I coined that term ...lol.. no matter.

You are truly an artisan in your music. Lyrics, guitar - I like that picking on Empirical..... and vocals are all great - did you overdub the way we all like , say, Sundown - with your own voice ? I am picking up a bit of doppler on true stereo on my PC sound system - its cool.

I tried to add a comment such as Rosendo's in your myspace music site - but forgot you have to be an existing friend. Rosendo said it well on the song about the small town life - I forget...dang it... but he commented on it too - I like it 2nd; Empirical first. Well done - and as jj said - the site ! VERY sharp.

Hi guys...I forgot to mention - if u didn't see the answer to jj's question (or jj if u did not c it in the pkanes trains etc thread in the middle of one of my longer blabberty posts...the answer to your q) - jj asked roughly how many songs were left to go in lyrics ? I had posted an answer in one of his threads -= and then thought this moring all players might like to know.....

We've had a lot of duplication on songs until I caught that fact around Q100 ! so we definately have not had as many songs as clue....my check on the tabular database puts it at 169 songs successfuly answered, or revealed. This would leave, per Sir John Bt. estimate given to Stone wall studios of 300+/- a few by best estimate of available info of recorded songs only . would leave aprox 131 songs to go. So if yer still havin fun, I'm ready to run 'er...

If you check in and see this post, please drop me a line in here, whoever you are, regular player or not, and could you let me know if you'd like to see the game remain in operation or not. Seems to be kinda down to Joveski, jj, Ron, Jeesse Joe, Char here and there, and then occassionally good to see formerlylavender playing,

Its very atmospheric, beautiful autumn scenery - all filmed on an Island in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, if I remember right......it IS worth seeing if you liked Big Chill or like Dianne Lane or the ensemble cast that filmed on location.

P.S. The cooking vacation was not at the level of say graduate level chef school. It was still very organized but a lot less formal, a very Tuscan approach I must say. Plus lots of free time each day to buzz around the local cities and small towns, which we did, before heading back to start dinner prep at 3pm every day. Hi Guys Happy Post-Thanksgiving , (American day thereof anyhoo). I've just finished up with all family activites, including the largest shopping day of the year - Thank Heavens the 'Mall' - made up to look like a National Park Lodge, very rustic , peeled-post furniture etc.,; thankfully had a Brookstone gadget store to satisfy my shiney metal gadgets 'raccoon' in me; an Eastern Mtn. Sports to get me dreaming of winter outings, and a Discovery Channel store (so fascinating jjD2...lol..) 'cause among other things they HAVE MAPS ! oh man oh man that Visa AND Mastercard are SCORCHING hot in my wallet...lol... .

Ron , interesting observation you made on thread 'views' qty.; one thing I have noticed all along is a mildly interesting fact - the ratio of views-to-plays has been fairly consistently 10 views to every one play for the first couple months, recently the ratio has changed somewhat to disproportionately many more views, vs the number of plays. I've also, while noticing the ratio, observed that other threads very commonly experience the 10:1 ratio as well. And for this thread, that changed recently. The all-to-quick answer I have to ponder is for some reason fewer ppl that 'look-in' play by proportion, therefor I assume unqualified that something is less appealing. I won't drive myself nuts trrying to figure that out. Safe to say I am busy trying to keep up with you guys whenever I post ten new ones. And.... I will, after finishing the more rigorous eval of all the submits to maintain fairness, will finish this evening if I can with 10 NEW SONGS ! if timer/freezer/things permit ;)

A friend of mine in town here that worked for the same Gov't agency as I quit, and then went into business for himself, now successful after 6 years, commented that he doubted he ever would have done that without having the "somewhat different view of life & things in general after his trip to the U.K. - notably Scotland, his family heritage homeland trip; along with Western Europe on a shoestring. He felt the trip was very enlightening when compared to his workaday tunnelvision view of the world; it used to be the window looking out on other Gov. Bldgs., and he no sense of perspective by zooming OUT on the map of HIS personal world, and seeing there is far more out there , and few of us ever get the 'round to it' to see. I, if only for a moment, wish all songs could lend well to the kind of clues I gave to the two stragglers above, and this game could be played that way. Not all songs have a color name, or rivers and brightness in the clues, as these two stragglers did.

But you know what, if and when people wished to change this lyrics game, or grow tired of it as I am convinced from time to time they are, but 2 or 3 chime in and politely say ""I'd like to still play, if you please.....", and so I do/we do, and I still enjoy this thread. It makes me wonder if I should open another test thread with the above two colored clues format and take a stab at it for s's and g's..!

No matter, I'm open to that format and will start giving threads this way, if people would like me to open a thread that way or change this one; either way, this old thread-bare game is appproaching mid-life crisis it seems at times, if ony from uncertainty...lol... but it seems to have enough momentum that when I post ten new ones in a list, people pop out of the wood work and gobble up the clues ! That new idea of story clues in metaphor of the song, with color where pertinent, or other artifact or glyph still intrigues me, even if in another thread..simultaneous..hmmm....one thing though - if it were to do well simultaneously as this old horse thread keeps plodding along happily, a little thin at the ribs, but still on its feet.lol..shoud it be continued coincidentally with a new thread,- the coloured metaphorical or story-based clues idea, and would the two running concurrently be presumptuous or particularly if it were to do well, you never know on these threads, would it be to large a footprint to tromp on my Lighthead-brethren by doing so ? Curious what all players think of the above purple and blue format of clues - in the two purple and blue ones; color was germane but otherwise would normally be extranneous. Its the method of clue giving in story or metaphor I am wondering if you guys would like it mixed into regular play -some- or as a seperate thread, and keep this intact, or go all to the new method, where we could 'pass the deal' whoever gets it right.

Any method of clue giving would be open season in the above examples, as long as it was not something that would preclude a group from figuring it out (no Spanky high signs under the chin in code hahaha lol) waddya think ? I am kinda inclined myself to do some 'mixing a few in each list of ten'; and see if we like 'em. A lot of songs may not lend well to this method but we could try, for some additional fun ? Eight are 'regular' songs, one is pre-UA, but is still in Wayne's regular song lyrics list, as opposed to other categories, and finally one is in story-clue format, as opposed to a part of the lyrics - our norm; exactly
like the 2nd clues given in purple and blue format, for Q226 and Q234 a short ways up on pg 27.

Story clues will always be done in green, to help notice them consistently. That, and the clues are noticeably longer, even a short paragraph. :eek: :biggrin:

1st: A question for all of you below; can I have your opinion ?

If you wish to skip the discussion of the question, I'll bottom line it for you here and right now: If you knew that so far we've had a player mention that the font colors, font choices, font sizes, etc (like the Yellow clue numbers, red,white,and blue Congratulations !, purple story clues, etc) were giving the player visual distress and perhaps a headache, would you vote to change format to default everything, as I have done here in this as a courtesy and test run to the player it distressed visually ? So if you wish to skip the longer explanation of the same basic elements of the above to consider in more depth, just go down to the bar-line where it says'OK Back to biz'. And please express you opinion ! Thanks !


More in-depth considerations worth noting:I've been trying to use the colors/fonts/sizes as a utility. Typically- yellow/gold - you know that color means clue numbers and essential information, correct song, big X, etc. Blue have typically been extranneous notes, and last set of medium blue, deliberately to evoke thoughts of water,were actually part of the story 2nd clue that helped Dave from Melbourne figure out the 'River of Light' story clue. Similarly, purple was used in that same post to help as 2nd clue successfully to help formerlyLavendar (by coincidence) to figure out the song in 2nd clue story-format on 'Approaching Lavender'.

So, I'd say the last 3 pages have been an inordinate amount of color. We've had one person speak of of it (color/font/size etc variations) being distressing visually, which I can certainly understand ! How about the rest of you ? - as we have approached this game as democratically as possible.

I've also pretty consistently used the same color seperately for your names, eg Ron your name is always Red; Joveski you can similarly find comments or replies to you with your name in green, etc for everyone of the regular players. That has always felt like a courtesy extended to each of you. Admittedly, a little tiny one....lol .Having said that, its been a utility as intended, for me, but I need more input like one player's helpful info on eye fatigue/headache with color/font/size et al. I'm inclined to change all to default fonts, no color, etc., but am curious how most of you like/not/indifferent feel about it. Not a crucial question in the big path of life.lol... but maybe a kindness to show.

So, for now, what of color/font/size at least as identifers of type of info i.e. yellow clues & bottom-line info, consistent color to find your name, etc., 'FOR & AGIN" comments would be really appreciated. Until I have more input to go by, I'll error on the safe/considerate side for now, until I hear from say more than half of the regulars, or a trend appears if things are slow.... I'll (til then) use default on everything, except maybe italics and/or bold as would be common in other threads. Default for now, as in 'de fault of de map-guy' - me ! ...lol...

I am accustomed to using font utilities to identify info classes on maps I make. I have seen cartographers fired over A: easily a hundred hours of math in abstracting field notes; then after all that done impeccably,B: forget the target audience was a '101 class'-size semi-auditorium-sized 'quiem' room, and they made the map title and legend/key useful for reading at 1 -3 feet away ! Well this isn't mapping here, but courtesy is allways correct, which is what I want to ensure with your help.I definately do not want to lose a valued player (which is everybody!) to something as easy to correct as color/font/& font size usage.

Is it bothering you guys ? I never thought of that; readability, yes, and a method to the madness, yes, but discourteously I never thought to ask if it was hard on anyone. -sigh- I can tell you what I see when I look over the last few pages... setting aside the inordinate amount of color in the '2nd clues' for two potential dead-horses where color helped, I'd have to say there are only about 5 colors that read well against the rather dark blue skin of corfid. What I did see mostly was that, given a readable contrast on color choice, what I found the most difficult/eyestraining was font selection. I'm given to certain types of info in 'Comic sans MS' and 'Book Antiqua' to distinguish the info class with a number of colors, sort of in the same way we use italics at times. I did find 'Book Antiqua' was hard to read unless I went from default size of 2, changed to 3. And big, happy fonts were 'signs of success', or new clues etc. Its not gonna bust my chops either way ..lol... so waddya think ?

I'd consider it as a valid ambig IF it met all the criteria stated, but the most tangible piece of info was the train, and it appears in the lyrics of the intended song. Were it not for that, I'd go with your answer....interesting how Lightfoot has recurrent themes, in different ways, that make each song seem entirely new ! Sorry Ron, but good try.

No need for anyone to rip into you Steve. I, personally find all the colours/font sizes/different fonts etc. hard to read and follow/understand whether they are to indicate replies to specific people or not.
That's just me.

I find it easier to follow with everything white on blue and perhaps when the puzzle is solved a simple change in colour to indicate it has been solved..notifications in BOLD/same colour are not jarring. So many colours/text changes/sizes etc. in such a lot of text is too much for me tho. Trying to backtrack to find the clue was too much for this old brain..

The post you just sent thru was readable and understandable and my eyes were not darting all over the text while I tried to understand what you were saying..

If no one else finds it difficult then keep on keepin' on. No need to belabour it. It's a great game and when I've been able to play it's been fun.

So, I'd say the last 3 pages have been an inordinate amount of color. We've had one person speak of of it (color/font/size etc variations) being distressing visually, which I can certainly understand ! How about the rest of you ?


I think a bit more judicious use of the fonts/colors would be in order. Too much can be bewildering (In fact, that's the excuse I'm using for missing SQ1). Maybe limit the use of colors to denote the "X" for clues that have been solved. That sort of thing.

I'm also wondering if we should lift the informal rule of not looking in Lightfoot.ca - Lyrics/Chords, especially appropriate for older songs, Pre c '65, -pre UA period, thoughts ? All songs I do now are under 'Lyrics and Chords'. I'd say go for it, unless it takes the fun out of it for you ! I think most of us have 'sneaked a peak', any way...lol Or, lift the lyrics patch. ?? Hi guys - its a busy time of year for many of us; Holiday preperations, everyone is in step with the sesason :)

Here is a little dittie, an 'homage' to Circle of Steel, which we have played allready. A couple times lol.... . Thanks to Gordon Lightfoot for the beautiful melody and lyrics I've liberally modified as a thank you for fun game play.

-eesh - that's why Gord is a singer/sonwriter, and I'm NOT ...lol
- beautiful song though; that 'Circle of Steel' ~gl (the real one).

Unless people would like different, changes have been requested, and some I've aded to make more elbow room for enjoyment include:

1. Only very spare use of color, occasional bold and italics, and default font size is now de rigeur for ease on the eyes of many to see white, I hear :)

2. I've suggested lifting what at times are enjoyable, and at times I know frustrating - the patches of lyrics 'rule'. I'm lifting that unless anyone differs, no more lyrics needed - just the song name to win it, ambig or 'spot on' !

3. Looking in lightfoot.ca, which I think we've all done a time or 20 lol..., is now totally at your own discression, whatever is most fun. I think this is especially important if we are going to find songs from the 'Two Tones', or 'Early Lightfoot', any really - but the Chateau and Two Tones many have not heard at all, save for maybe two on Songbook: disc 1. Let's use any resource to look up ones that don't come to mind. I think one good thing came of that 'rule' while it lasted - many posted that it 'spurred them to listen to Lightfoot's body of work in a whole new way' - to 'pump up' for the game, or otherwise. And those who wrote in, as have I , spoke of learning an even dreper respect for, and recoognition of recurrent themes, phrases, illiteration, frquently used words or whol phrases, its been a very 'learning; experience for me.
4. Its been suggested we retain the Yellow Big- X, for example, in the status board, which above is current, but all in white for a test run. 5 remain unanswered, and I will not be too quick to comment interest is flagging- because its the Holidays, and we are all busy. I'll take 'em as they come. If interest does truly flag for you, as opposed to time available; please let me know; or vice-versa 'keep-on keepin-on' if thats the case, but no hurry.

5 One more question on the table - the story clues - by definition, a great case of what may very well be too vague or certainly ambiguous, what with Gord's recurrent themes in some cases. I've posted 2nd and 3rd clues on SQ1 above, and 2nd clues for all unsolved Q* questions.

6. - would be any suggestions you guys have further. Meanwhile, with people aout of town, flurrying to get work done to a clean desk before they call it Holiday Vacation, I wouldn't expect too many replies coming in. If any one thing, your thoughts are especially appreciated right now to determine if we are rounding a bend or a fork in the road in the game...... it may even be petering out from a tertiary road to a logging road or dirt track..lol... I have a fondness for this game, I still can't believe what started on a lark, borrowing from other quiz formats past and present to be sure, grew to such a long-running term of fun (I hope for you..surely for me !). Sorry about the name mispronunciation, Ron. You were almost immortalized in song, er...not quite, but I blew it on your last name. Such are the limits of the written word for the poorly vetted in researching such basics as promunciation ! Thankfully by letting me know, I will put your name to rights in context if I can, if not you'll know I tried. Then all I'll have to do is rhyming, illiteration, content, just about everything is substandard, except one thing, now that I think about it, make it two, Char's nickname, and the beautiful song it came from.

Maybe I should study Sun Tzu and his Art of War, or better yet, the non-combative, serenity of T'ai Chi, and find my center, balanced T'ai/Chi, (however, I think my CG is in my spare tire at my belly..lol..a least follow the Zen path of the leaf, floating in water....and do Haiku instead ! All I remember from elementary school on Haiku is that I need 17 syllables, that don't rhyme, or even resemble poetry, but does have meaning, or imagery. I will become one, with my Chi ! and all of that Zen, er....sumpin' like that..

Also, in what way are you having a hard time with the current (list of 11) quizzer clues, Ron ? I would appreciate any advice as to how to make the quizzers more fun, primarily, but please do tell me in what way, assuming other than just they are too hard ? The previous 10 were solved- all in a bit less than 6 hours, as I recall, and I did consciously make these, save for a few, a bit harder, to attempt to restore balance of too easy/too hard.

Is that what you are speaking of, Ron ? I'll be hapy to change that in the next list, and give some strong clues to add to the 2nd clues up in the current list. Its cool- fire away; I won't take offense. Any and all constructive criticism is welcome, despite some thin sklin I have exhibited over the last eight months; but without unneccessary explanation, I think most of you understand where it came from.

The Holiday Poem, well, shall we say I was not born to be a wandering minstrel-cum-singer/songwriter, or poet ! I'm running out of things to work with here....lol . No realy, I am sorry for the mispronunciation, or more precisely, the assumption thereof by virtue of assuming your name to rhyme ! I'll find a way to re-write it !

And what-with the life-long mispronunciation you've endured, sounds exactly like the kind of flub I stick my foot in mouth over; please pardon my presumtion of the way it is said. Thank you for letting me know, Ron. "Onward, McDuff !", as my Dad used to say to me on the trail up to the climb; at around 54 - he could out-hike/out-climb me at 19 ! What a guy.... and I worked out 3-4x/week, and had gone to a year long Climbing School ! And he said with regard to what was apparently some older adage that I've even heard in movies and read in books a few times - "Work-out ? Jog ? What 'working-out' - I'm an Engineer ! I don't have time or the inclination to 'work -out' !

Ron, you'd have liked him. A man of few words; when he did speak, anyone with one bit of sense listened.

A man of sound wind and limb, and a razor-sharp, virtually unparalleled mind; a solid gold heart, and a life paradigm of unwavering ethics, compassion, dedication, and self-discipline. For those reasons and more, it was a very, very hard thing to watch him physically succumb to Parkinson's as he did, and watch what remained throughout - a magnificent man, succumb physically and verbally to Parkinson's. But, I never saw even one iota of the 'spark' flag in those shining eyes full of whit and wisdom, a veritable genius in his own right.

He retained his strength in the form of his admirable values and no matter what he perceived as the wavering mores of the times, he remained unflappable, and strong in his own sterling values and ethics; stolid, in the best sense of the word - dedication as a truly magnificent gignere. As we all will in verying amounts and ways, I truly will miss two of the closest people in my life this Christmas. Having allready gone badly off-thread on a non-sequiter from 'onward, McDuff' to a mini homage to Dad; I'll not make the mistake and engage in the poor taste of further excess and impertinance here on my most obvious loss right now, for this Christmas, unless it comes up in context in another post, likely in another thread, if that, to truly serve what needs to be said, and is still forming in my mind.

I'll fix'er Ron. Thanks for letting me know kindly as you did. And if you made it this far; thank you for kindly reading such thoughts as I ought keep to myself, at least in corfid. We all have enough to deal with !

Last time I called a tech representative was a few weeks back for my backup cell phone, a pay-as-you-go LG throw-away job (what has society come to ?). I wanted to re-enable its service, as they have a neat little scam/incentive that mandates that you buy a minutes card every 60 days, whether you use it or not. As a backup, I didn't. So I call, and I get what I can only guess is a Polynesian thick dialect broken english that one could not possibly interpret, though she was very nice. I tried calling twice, and both times I could not understand. Not gonna sell many minutes cards that way. Thats the same number to set up a new throw-away phone, too. Not to bright. Cost effective often seems to have the 'effective' part forgotten.

I've heard many 'call centers' for misc. galore to our continent are all over the world, and some, I found, soliciting Allstate premium motor club to me, called a few times from Nova Scotia. I guessed and got lucky - because she said it was 3 hours later than my mtn. std time location. I recalled very few Continental North America locations to be in that Atlantic zone, except for as I recalled the Maritime Provinces. I took a stab at it, and asked if she was from Nova Scotia, the first to come to mind, and bingo. I had no trouble understanding her of course.

And they play hell with Dunbar, my name. invariably - OK Mr. DuMbar.....lol

OK guys, lets call the remaining one regular Q and the story SQ1 a game. :)

I will try to have ten more carefully selected clues this PM today.

I think the previous set went quick in December - basically all in 1/2 a day !

Then this set I am calling it a game on was a mixture of 5 that went virtually

right away, 3 more that took a few more days, and the remaining 2 as I

mentioned above. I'd add that I think the story clues were worth trying; it

seemed the first 2 went OK, but putting myself in your shoes as best as I can

for this current SQ1; its just a clue format that despite the good crack at it

by Ron, is wide open to ambiguous interpretation. If I remove all ambiguity

so as to be immediately obvious, where is the fun in that ?


So, unless anyone feels different, I'll remove the story clue(s) from the next

set of 10 I am refining off and on this afternoon, and set out ten regular

clues of medium difficuly as best as I can, and try to have one or two quick

ones for newer listeners or players; and maybe one toughie as jj put it, and

seven medium difficulty as best as I can discern. Unless people would rather

not, I'll have maybe one from pre UA days, that is to say more directly - all

but maybe one Q will be from the '20' albums, and that one will be likely

Chateau/'Early Lightfoot' , or the Two-Tones at the Village Square to

catch those fortunate players who have these two Oldies. For those without

the 2 albums pre '65 UA, I will make sure the Q is, like all others, in the

Lyrics/Chords section of Wayne's Lightfoot.ca, as was Adios, Adios

that jj nailed. I'll look forward to seeing if there is continuing

interest with this evening's new set. The current status board above is up to

date as well.

HERE ARE TEN NEW CLUES FOR 7:45 P.M.,TUESDAY, JAN 06, 2009 !

All songs can be found in Lightfoot.ca under Lyrics/Chords, and only
Q255 is pre-UA; pre '65; from Chateau's 'Early Lightfoot'. As I know many people do not have this old record, or burned to CD; you can still find it, albeit the hard way, in Wayne's site, Lightfoot.ca.

Remember too, if you have not been allready, its completely fine to do what
we used to call 'cheating', tongue-in-cheek: looking in any lyrics file or any reference material to find the answer. As if at any point what I have said previously on this, or am saying now did make, or now makes any difference !..lol . This may may make it more enjoyable for those harder ones, or to confirm your guess.

And also - another new change - no need for lyrics patches unless you want to in your submissions.

Please tell me if these new 'rules' being lifted makes it more fun, or too easy -at your discression - which frankly, I have no pre-conceived notions of what I called a 'rule' ever really made any difference. I do believe some of you did find it more fun off the top of your head, from what you said. Whatever 'fills your Gourde' arh arh lol....anybody ?

Having fun is the whole point. There are hardly any 'rules' ..lol.. left, except the ones that are intended to be of help to you - the dots for position, and caps on the start of a verse on the first word, unless with a proper noun preceeded and followed by dots, or preceded only indicating the end of a verse. Same as its allways been - if my explanation just now is in any way worded poorly.

This batch has lasted 4 days so far, maybe the easy/hard is OK, waddya you folks think ? How about that '63 Chateau Early Lightfoot Q ? (sounds like a wine I can't afford) Should we wax those ?

I waxed the story Q's - Ron's noble effort last set was appreciated, but I
can't help but think the vagenuess and ambiguity of the clues are too
biased by my interpretation, whereas the regular Q-clues are straight from lyrics verbatim.

As we all interpret songs differently, it seems to me that fact alone is enough to safely say its not a matter of 'too hard', I think its more likely to be the vague nature of individual interpretation that makes them far too unlikely to get, even with better clues than I give. They are too much of a quessing game when one man's clue is another man's "huh ?" lol :confused:

Unless a surprise player uprising takes place and someone asks for them back, which I kinda doubt lol...., I'll let them rest in peace.

Heck, I'm not complaining of the paucity of players, its just good to see each one come back one by one :) I'm very pleased with the pace - I'm not holding things up lol.... !

Thats the first 2 out of the gate correct. If that, compared to Mende's first posting from last set may be compared, in which he got 4 right out of the shoot correct, with a paucity of data may we extrapolate the overall difficulty of the ten Q's ? Statistically, no. But I will anyway. That said, lets 'tseeer: since last set took 5 days (inclusive) - 1/6 - 1/10, we may therefor apply the coefficient of 2, or 'm' - the Mende factor. Therefor, this list should take 10 days, if my outlandish extrapolation proves viable. a hahahahaha :biggrin: I R good at math.

Having established the Mende coefficient of 'm', useful in forecasting how long this list of 10 Q's will take, we have 9 more days to go. My money is on beating that formulae. Math is so cold. If we do not finish in 9 more days, we may blame Mende arbitrarily, for lack of any viable assignment of blame. Moreover, we will ascribe intent to the coefficient being wrong, in which case, Mende, unknowingly, will have knowingly committed a malpheasance.
Don't worry Mende, we'll be there for you on your day in court ! :biggrin:

I know a good atorrney. Never been able to afford him, but he's good. The atorney I have used (and paid a lot of money to) went nuts and was institutionalized right in the middle of my case. I can't imagine what the problem was. I even corrected all the positions of her paper clips in her desk organizer, so they all faced magnetic North, somewhere in Hudson'sBay, and pragmatically explained to her how it moves systematically twice a day; this is known as diurnal change. It also changes moves progressively thru the year, with respect to the agonic line. I was explaining this to her and she burst into flames (she was a drinker; they are known to spontaneously explode anyway) and ran out the door. Next thing I hear, she is in the State Hospital. Quite sad, in reality. Don't worry Mende, we'll get another good one that passes the paper clip test. :)

magnificence. He finishes then 'too silent to be real' and all is well again.

Some help for everyone on the last remaining clue, and a reminder of which one it is. The 2nd clue I'll give here is not necessarily a word or word(s) from the song, but maybe just a thought that might elicit the song title in your mind.

If this remains unsolved thru tonight and tomorrow evening I'll nuke it and move on to 10 new songs. :)
