Hi Steve, That is good you got to know so much about your paternal great-grandfather. My paternal great-grandmother was also a school teacher. It was a one or two room schoolhouse where she taught all the grades, up until she got married. My dad was a construction worker but in the winters he drove an oil truck or semi. He was also the best harmonica player in the world, and played with some bands when he was 'older'. He passed away from a lung tumor when he was only 62. I remember how he would also characteristically pause - for up to a minutewhen someone would ask him an important question. I had to be respectful and patient many times. I remember one time a 'friend' of mine challenged him to a game or pool. (btw, he didn't drink, but he did smoke). She racked 'm up, and he called which pocket the 8-Ball would go in on the break. Then that's exactly what happened. That's the only time I ever saw him play pool.

...So, what did you find in the trunk from the basement? :)

That's good you had such a good marriage. Merry sounds like an exceptionally nice person.

"Through two shipwrecked eyes I've come to see"

LOL Hi Lynn - i was surprised - I thought this one would go first. I know why noe - jj did not play this round - and he had a burned CD of just the 18 rarities et al from Songbook. And he always got those thats why. Anyhoo - I actually do love that song, unusual in a great way for Gordo, its in my favourite 'hit repeat' 10 for sure.

Well you have the distinction of:

Q356 .... shipwrecked .... = 'Always On The Bright Side' ? - YES ! You polished off the last of the ten.

Congrats to 4Lane-Lynn thats a tongue twister say it ten times lol

I'll post 'er in the 'Case of the greenbox and the hidden key' - X-FILES lol- Everyone'll be wondering what in the He77 I am writing about - I assure you - there is a reason. It'll come out in her memoirs, or unofficial bio - 4LaneLynn P.I. ! lol sorry Lynn had to have some fun on a Saturday night !

Something occurred to me just now, after I posted the above, updated the x-files, and thought....rare moment I know... When I say in the Header of the X-files - All songs from the main '20'ALBUMS' - NOT SO.
Songbook is not of the 'main 20' - in the time period - yes, strictly speaking, no. I shall make that as clear as PPI Float-Glass from now.

<snip> et al
...So, what did you find in the trunk from the basement? :)

That's good you had such a good marriage. Merry sounds like an exceptionally nice person.

Thanks for the reply in that one, Patti. What a 'first - and only ?? Pool-shot - 8-ball in the corner on the break ? Wow ! . I wish I could hear your grandfather playing the 'harpoon' as Kris K called it 'from my dirty red bandanna' in Gord's first recording of - you know - Me and Bobby McGee - type playing ?

Yes, Merry was a wonderful woman - and staggeringly beautiful. What she saw in me I'll never know. She was sadly overtaken by illness(es) that took her spark away later in life, and even knowing at times who or where she was, so sad,. I'll not go on that way now. I'll allways cherish the memories of the golden Years - and later I know will see the wonderful strength of the 'Hospital House Years' we called 'em later. Enough of that part for me now- and everone else lol. More in PM any time you like. Thank you so much Patti - and I'll pick up on any detail I missed in PM's. Thank you..

...I know I am looking back at her with the benfit of both 20-20 hind sight - and rose-colored indeed. She was human, as was I - but our first 16 years or so were absolutely..a pciture of happiness and warmth. Well I call those 'The Golden Years' - as above. - Mamie was cute as the little doll she had -THAT LOOKED JUST LIKE HER AND SAME SIZE ! - You should see the photo, 'sitting' side-by-side with the doll, and same 'knit hat' - just like 'daddy' before going out into the wild woods for winter work - you know how kids as toddlers expecially copy both their parents intermittently ? Well all three of us - in our first (and "best") home - owned before us by a Grandmother widow, and it allways felt like a 'grandma's house' - in the best of senses. Warm, love-filled feeling. Oddly - our next house - as I moved up the ladder in my career -was huge by comparison, I had it built with some features Merry allways wanted - glass-blocks, etc. I it was a beautiful house, but I am quite sure the reason it did not compare with our first was that was where we had 'Hospital House' . Well, in all truthfullness - the following 12 years were frought with a brave stand against the worst combination of illnesses, operations, acccidents, etc etc, and I'll never know how we got throught it... well, yes... I do.... ;) Anyway Patti- I'd be happy to tell you more detail in a PM. The players can get a bit ancy - a 'new ten' is due now :) . and I lose 'em if I blabberty too much, some of 'em anyway - some of the best ! So I dare not lose 'em ! Please send me a reminder PM, and I'll tell you a an 'old Grandpa's' tale of intrigue from the 'CHEST' ???? !!!! -

Thank You Patti - for some of the kindest posts I have recieved in here. I must to some extent minimize -MY BLABBER MOUTH - not your - don't ever hesitate to post, please, just know I might respond in PM to keep my eye on the ball ! :headbang:

Q373 - ...west
Seven Island Suite
"Seven islands to the high side of the bay if you're looking west"

formerlylavender once again comes up with an even better than intended song which was - ''Does You Mother Know'.

formerlylavender submits, an even beter case with:

Q373 - ... west ... Seven Island Suite

Her lyrics submitted that work very well from Seven Islands Suite :headbang:

"Seven islands to the high side of the bay if you're looking west"

I add just the next line to hers since we all love the song so much  it seems:

Seven islands to the high side of the bay if you're looking west
To the sunset you can see it, all in fiery autumn dress

It seems - ONLY Lightfoot can convey the entire image, feel, sights, sounds, fragrance of Autumn, feel of the leaves crunching underfoot, etc. - an entire Autumn sunset painting given life and legs by The Man, with blazing beautful leaves quite that way - unbelievable, yes- genius, but more than sheer intellect - the gift of song writing which knows no intellect as a pre-requisite - but Lightfoot's particular brand of genius has been observed many times in corfid - his powerful command of the English language as we've commented here and there, he has to be a well-read man, quietly, w/o public self-congratulation. Here anyway-

As all true genius IMO - needs no expression thereof, the proof is inthe results. That, with what, as an American, I can only assume is a Canadian's closer tie to the Queen's English - which I'll vouch first I believe - we are much farther from (as in American English is farther from) - The language from England, vis by the language in America - with back-formations, myriad various debaucheries, from mis-spelled contractions or statements often heard from Queen's English - such as: 'why that's Bloody good' has been theorized by English specialists as having come from (bloody) - a contraction of 'By our Lady'.

- say it fast, and one can imagine the 'bloody' adjective we associate with "English from England's" origins - any British in the viewing audience care to comment or correct - please do so, quite welcome ! Our various colloquial and even smaller subsets of small regions - even neighborhood coloquialisms, from which we have established regional dialect bearing little in common I'm sure with the Queen's English... please comment any British folk or etylmologists in the readership - the views in this thread are over 13,000 (as opposed to posts now just over 1,000 )suggest greater than than ten-to-one interraction in the thread as being non-participatory viewers - which are very, very welcome, in all ways -any British among you wish to comment on American English debauchery of The Queen's ? :) either 'viewers only' or players are welcome to comment on this above American's belief in variations from the original Queen's English we have in various forms around the country - indeed around the block in the case of enclaves all comments are welcome - and what of corblimey ? I can look it up on various websites, but a British person's take is far more of interest. OK then- moving on to the next post -

Thank you so much for playing again f. Lavender ... :headbang:

I'll post it in the X-files,corblimey !

Q366 .... advice
Understand and take my advice

Flyin' Blind

Hi Jenney good to see you back in - are you packin' a six-shooter today ? For other player's benefit - I am referring to Jenney's bar-setting record (I think) of 6 SONGS IN ONE SET !. We should not put pressure on her for a repeat performnce, genius does not requently come out upon demand ! So, perhaps just as the groundhog went back in his home after lookin around and sniffin' the air in Punxatawney (sp?), Jenney may not chose to unload all her rounds, brass dropping on the floor like rain, and lead flyin. on target (lead as in a pencil lol) !

OK 'tseeer:

Hey ronster, I like your new "game/fill-in-the-blank at least ": Given the movie name = what GL song (of many, & no wrong answer) as I understand it so far.
You all ought a give it a visit - I think he has a fun idea going from the top 100 movies to tap - 11 at a time - its fun !

OK BIZ:

Does Q371 .... earth .... = Waiting For You ? - It does for a fact , a totally valid ambig. - FYI the intended was The Last Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Congrats Ron

lyrics patch (mine here was more than the 'hoped for' which Ron nailed) actually - no lyrics are required anymore, but player's helpful inclusion still come with. Anyway:

What would we do at the end of the day
When the hours are asleep and the time slips away
Children are all that the earth has to show
Children are all that the earth wants to know
Up here in the northland, up here in the snow
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I included this shortcut as a courtesy to Ron, to get you into his thread on movie names correspond to What? GL Song. Very Cool. It opens a new window, so if you have strong pop-up avoidance settings, it might not work, but I've not encountered that. You can of course enter through normal means under gen disc., and skip the 2nd window.

Shortcut to Ron's cool new thread: (opens a new window):

---------GOT AN IDEA TO REMOVE/MOVE LONGER, NON-GAME ORIENTED POSTS

HOW 'BOUT NO MORE NON-GAME LONG POSTS ?

- I have an idea below I'll post 1-3 times max in here - the paragraph below. I figure it will open up clear gaming space currently obscured by (me) in otherwise very enjoyable long posts - nostalgia etc.

----------NEW THREAD NOTICE NEW THREAD NOTICE

New idea - plan on less long-winded blabberty posts of mine in herre ! I'm not stopping them, I'm MOVING THEM ! I'm starting a new thread in small talk called 'Corfid.cafe' ! We can blabberty-away, and continue our nostalgia talks; we currently have several ones open One- Patti and Lynn is the 'treasure chest and my Dad's locked desk drawer!), T.B.C. - in there! PLEASE JOIN ME IN THERE ! The only rule(s) - would be the fundamental rules as nice people we'd follow anyway - the basic forum behavioural stds. set forth by Char and Florian - and we'll go from there, with Char adding considerations not expressed yet, in there. Good people, Good talk = Good thread, Boy do I NEED IT !
AND - IT WILL FREE-UP HERETOFORE SPACE OBSCURED BY.... ME LOL GAMING SPACE - I'm fixin' it

Please do join me in there, when you or I want to tell tales/family stories etc, of a longer nature, *not lyrics game related*, or thoughtfully answer a non-private, non PM-oriented post. Those, I'll put in PM. How 'bout it ? No theme !
I surely do not intend to snag conversations from their proper theme threads at all. This will be meant to be an open-format - nothing within overall corfid rules of decency etc. will be out of line ! Talkety-blabberty for me, I'm sure lol

SHAMELESS PLUG FOR MY NEW SMALLTALK - Corfid.cafe - I'm moving all of MY blabbert-blab ...well...greater than 2" high of post-real-estate, anyway !

Here is more I copied and am pasting here, advisedly not putting in to a hopefully clearer reply to Ron, somewhat, anyway, by virtue of moving the following into this post, shamelessly - but at least OUT of a reply lol
OH - BTW - before I post my SHAMELESS PLUG (i.e more of same) PLEASE NOTE THAT ENJOYABLE NON-LYRICS TALK OF MORE THAN 1" HEIGHT ON -SCREEN - I am trying to move them (mine-only of course) out of here, before being asked too ..lol
and am plopping them gradually into Corfid.cafe. INCLUDING ( What was in the treaure/trunk/chest ? Q & A) It'll be in a day or so, maybe later tonight, in corfid.cafe - for PATTI and LYNN and CAN'T REMEMBER lol who asked - at least Patti I know... well please help this move prove to be benefical by following me into that cafe space where we can talk unlimited amounts w/o causing visual discontinuity in this lyrics game ! That was 1/2 of my reasoning - the other half was pure friendly talk for what-have-you and even what-not ! If that's not specific I don't know what is ! (YOU DON'T, STEVE -yells the peanut gallery lol.....)

Shameless Plug: -please do -come into Small-Talk> Corfid-cafe again, any and all who would otherwise enjoy discussing off-thread things remaining open - as in the "what was in the trunk/mystery chest ?" - line a day or two ago.! Come in the cafe, try and catch one-another - or simply leave the post there - and I'll pick up on it.

I truly do appreciate it. It also represents a good thing for this thread's visual continuity as I said, sorry to repeat-peat - to move longer talketies of mine and willing participants lol to the cafe - ME being the greater in length poster of Blabberty-blab - so follow me all into a land of notions - whatever is on your mind, see If Anyone Is Home in that post made of Stone lol....- Corfid-cafe - OK enough with the good-intentions plug - it'll hopefully clear-up the eye-popping prior discontinuity (for the game specific-posts) into a hopefully easier to track continuity - and by noting the above several on-thread responses -I believe that and/or the mini-catch-up might be just starting to help .. ?, after the mini-catch-up - I do believe it may JUST be starting to work. My apologies for missing your friendly look in the door at the Cafe, Ron

Q374 Phantoms ....
The Lost Children
"Phantoms on the winter sky, together they do come"

One of my favorites, and one I hope to do a vistory for. :)

Hi Lynn ! 'tseeer:

Q374 Phantoms .... = The Lost Children ? - You bet it does !
That was the intended song, too. It's a heart-tugger, especially for anyone who's a parent.... I'll post your win in the X-files AND the mini-update called 'Whats Left ?' - Thanks for playing, Lynn.

Hope to see you in the new small-talk>Corfid.cafe, or at least your miscellaneous thoughts you care to share, woes, ,wins, where'e,why's, what's,who's, when's - lol looks like a journalism 101 student's inked on the palm cheat crib/sheat of the big 5's to never skip in your articles..... . And, also, NEVER EVER begin a sentence with 'AND'. So, C U there or be square - we've had a good first day, but barely missed one another 4 realtime meta-chat. :)

Q369 - ...sting
song - Whispers of the North
lyric - Whispers of the wind, I will feel it sting
I will see it rise and fall, I will hear it sing
The sound is like a song to me, it takes away the pain
The river is the melody and sky is the refrain

Char's quietude inhaling: (Steve's infused comment's in pineneedle green within Char's quote)"when i listen to this song I see Lightfoot relaxed in a canoe with lyrics and melodies waiting to be written..

- I can see & inhale it too, Char, and can only guess when he used to get real serious with a few hearty wilderness-savvy pals, and more muscle than Gord's humble clothing would bely - and take one of his legendary 500 - 700 mile mini-maritime (only on the boat size) journey's
( interesting the presumably Canadian-origin stories of that do not express meters in at least just 3.28:1 feet/meters style, hhm )anyway yes I see him on the in/and out of 65 degree Lat. arctic waters sea-kayaking or Canoe'ing up The McKenzie River or what not all the way to Beaufort bay, how could all that wilderness arboreal splendour NOT inspire him to write around the camp-fire ? I'm sure he did - to such perennial classics as Canary-Ye//// Shut-up Steve" - with the CYC song, enough allready lol.....

But W.O.T.N. allways inspired me to snowshoeing psych-ups, in the walking in the snow lyrics at the end... That song has an almost cathedral-like echoe with a perfect (self-voice-over-harmony like Sundown) -harmonius pitch'd church choir background (in the refrain (as I recall...) - Gord's harmony history is resplendant here). Anyway - I'm wit ya... I KNOW I'll be porting this post to the Corfid.cafe, as promised by me. -To free-up the lyrics-game visually- and content-continuity; But I won't let this thread grow completely bereft of GL quips/anecdotes here and there such as your musing Char - but NOT MY voluminous reply lol-I think I'm definately being guided down to the trap-door at the end of the Shanghei-Bar sailor-2B, at the end of the bar that gave San Fransisco its Barberry Coast notoriety; of what our threads fundamentally are all about - celebrating the Man's music in a fun diversional-style ? I', employing for starters a 1 1/2" rule of Mine 'ill keep here and there, more, I'll port to corfid.cafe :)

SO....Howdy Char - I appreciate your many drop-ins to the new corfid.cafe ! I came within 1 minute of meta-real-time talk with ya ! Was it the Gin/Lime Gimlet that was the 'no-serve 'girly-drinks' lol.... or the Starbuck's coffee shop-slang as portrayed in the Mel Gibson movie - 'What Women Like' - where he gets morning coffee and they sling that shop slang I can't reproduce in writing - something like ' 1/2-decaf no lip -top whip double shot 1 cream no stream winkdrink coffee' that was the girly -type at Tim's - or The cafe ? Well-past my 1 1/2" personal limit self-limiting talkety-talk-B4 I move it into the cafe at this point - its by-by moveout tomorrow -lol

OK 'tseeeer,

Does Q369 ... sting = 'Whispers of the North' ? - you betcha ! - as intended song, too ! I'll post it in the quickly-evaporating NEW mini-update, as well as the comprehensive X-files..lol...

Thanks for playing, Char C U in the Cafe at some point , bring your daughter in 2 ! She's old enough for coffee, isn't she ? Course, you grow-em strong, hale-and-hearty up their in the Northland, Up There In the Snow ;) - Probably drinking coffee by 16, while staying warm in her Hudson's Bay Double-shoulder Stag-Jac-Shirt style, or a genuine Filson's Double Mackinaw (timber)-cruiser Wool coat instead ? We down in the coterminous lower 48 have to a certain extent this still-lingering vision of Canadian's as King's of the snow and ice - Upland Caribou's duck-boots, Malone-wool & grizzlly cloth over-alls we envision of you folks from down here.... or am I about 150 years off, and you're in Levi's and Nautica Shirts, and US-requisite North-Face down jacket in Guide Yellow/Black, commonly here in Colorado as well as Winter-croc's !!! - I draw the line at those....good-God lol.... crocs in winter - they really are selling numb-nu66 the fleece-lined BUT STILL OPEN WITH VENT HOLES LIKE REGULAR CROCS - first slush hole comes up and goodby to dry/warm feet ! Other than Snoopy choosing to sacrifice comfort-for-style, I don't get it..... so anyway - the real Toronto'an, above Q-posed-notwithstanding, I'll really bet you guys are urbaneley ( is that an adjective lol) gadgeting (I'll trademark that) your way thru the day like us:

While you are wi-fy'ing at your local version of Denver's-and-growing 'Tattered Cover' Book Store High-rise mega-book/all-media stores Have they made it up to Toronto yet - ?I'm sure that'd be their first whack at a Canadian location - as 'hip and urbane' as any Nextel-packing mandatory Knee-length tan businessman's/woman's over/rain-coat-wearing, Halliburton-toting Denverite , at least to cover ( no matter how cold )Men's suits, poking out in the tails in the North-Face Down jacket - covering up those sartorial splendor spills, no doubt in Toronto ! OK THIS-one I'll export to Corfid.cafe - case in point ! lol...- by tomorrow late morning - seriously - I'll relocate it into the corfid.cafe- If I remember, all undiscussed matters permitting.  ;)

Let's wrap 'er up......

Q368 ....strangers....

Song : All The Lovely Ladies

Lyric : All the gentle strangers who by nature do not smile

Ya-Ha pilgrim- we're burnin' daylight ..... Howdy-doo Ronster again - your knocking 'em down like duckpins. Way to go !

Since I'm gonna move a few larger posts over to corfid.cafe, I'll indulge us one more time in here with some non-game talk - car-talk ruh ruh ruhruh!!

'tseeer:
Does Q368 .... strangers .... = 'All The Lovely Ladies' ? - You betcha - a totally-valid ambig - FYI intended was 'Can't Depend On Love' . Well played, Ron.

I'll post yours in what will close-down the mini-progress list, post and wrap-up the X-files - and finish our 10 all-together. If I can stay awake, I'll post 10 new ones, we'll see. But I'm with you. lets brings this last dogie into the rope-pen huh ? OK then. Hope to see you in the corfid-cafe again.

I came real -close to real-time when Char re-appeared, as did I, and I was one minute away from catching her B4 logging out - I was trying to hurriedly but politely finsh a phone call with a local friend. Oh well. It'll come along. Who knows - c'est la vie.

Thanks for playing, Ron. You sure turned in a 3-banger this time - there is such a thing too- My Old Subaru Justy 3-cylinder ! (little hatchback mini-car) with the world's 2nd continuously-variable transmission - no gears, - but a sliding in and out one inside the other, creating an angular hour-glass geometry if you will, of varying radii, and a electro-magnetically charged electro-magnet drive chain - only 3 (three !!!) moving parts in it.
The workd's first CVT (not electric) in assembly-line cars was the Sunbeam Alpine Convertible - (Get Smart's first red TV car) rare collector's car now - but it had a failure-guaranteed rubber drive belt off of its variable radii arrangement. One rotisserie-restored now'd bring $50 -60K I've read. I guess I shoulda kept the Sube in a nitrogen-filled room, and sell it now lol ! That ECVT was an amazing piece of engineering.

Picture selecting a healthy RPM level you want, by how hard you pressed the gas - the RPM's would go up as well as power at the flywheel of course, and say you choose 3,800 RPM for 0-45 MPH, staying at 3800 RPM the whole time - weird - very weird, then onto the on-ramp to the interstate, you nail it to a govener-controlled max RPM anyway, but you modestly pick 4700 RPM onto the on ramp for 45-75 MPH - smooth maximum RPM HP curve if you want, and then it automatically slides back down at your chosen continuous speed, say now at 75MPH, and the steel cones slide down to the lowest RPM power band range that will hold the speed, at minimum gas consumption. It was rated better MPG than its stick manual version (38hwy).

I got the new car with 2 dealers counter bidding lol ..... so out the door, I get a new 4wd Just with the ECVT tranny, air-conditioning, CD sound system, and airbags and ABS brakes, ,AND the 100,000 mile/6year Bumper-to-bumper warranty -everything but expendables, -Zero deductible - out the door for (true) $10,300.- everything . MSRP was $12,200,(this was in '93) w/o the warranty - another $900 -but it WAS included in the out-the-door price. Last day of the year - 12/31 -!! you can figuee that one out !

Well-worth-it on an experimental tranny - and sure as hell the little wonder tranny did go out - had it R&R'd once, then at the 5 years + mark, impending warranty term, and it was developing in its 5th year every known electrical problem, until they said it needed an entire new wiring harness - a $1,500 repair - covered just in under warranty - I got my money's worth. Continued to have inexplicable electrical failures as the term loomed on the warranty, so I traded it in at the dealer who had the exact Legacy Wagon I wanted - an "Outback" w/o the silly Outback package - $2,000 worth of stickers, PLASTIC body kick-panels all the way around the sides - you've seen 'em, 1/4"greater radius rims, which , all tires for a moment the same, would produce 1/4" greater ground clearance for off-road (schyeaaah)-NOT antics, interior upgrade more cup holders !

Yeah I'm paying $2,000 more for plastic door panels, 1/4" greater ground clearance, skid plates (You'd be a madman to take what really is a family wagon - not a stout-frame real off-road UTE , where on roads made of 1 ft. diameter mini-boulders, you need a wheel-drop man watching your every tire-drop by standing outside and watching every wheel plant....I love Subaru's, but I'd never chose to get stuck 15 Miles out thinking its a "sport-ute" lol....and crunch there goes your differential - forget the skid-plates- bottom line offroad for clearance are the differentials in my experience with a '76 CJ5. Last good year many said. OK I'm real tired now. lol This post'll definately get moved over into corfid.cafe. Thanks, Ron. You brought home the last dohgie.

HERE ARE TEN NEW CLUES ! , @ 12:00 midnight. Mtn. Std.,Wed.,Feb. 18th, 2009 !

HOPE YOU ENJOY THESE - ITS A 'THEME'-LIST.

THIS TIME THE 'BROAD-BRIMMED ERA' AS ONE JOUNALIST DESCRIBED GORDON AS HAVING - AND IN A COMPLIMENTARY WAY HE SAID IT; IN THAT THEY ARE -ONLY- FROM DON QUIXOTE TO COLD ON THE SHOULDER, AND INCLUDING......GG1, STRICTLY 'RELEASED' FROM '72 - '75 = :
Don Q., ODR, SUNDOWN, COTS, GG1 - THAT'S IT -!- If in doubt - Lightfoot.ca has the year of releases that the preceeding 5 albums agree with in time span '72 - '75 per lightfoot.ca = above albums :)

ALL OTHER SECONDARY LABELS SUCH AS UA IN THIS TIME ARE NOT INCLUDED. THE ONLY COMPILATION IS GG1 FOR THIS TEN. REMEMBER THE GG1 LP 1ST DISC - ARE RE-RECORDED SELECT UA PERIOD - WITH HIS '74 "SOUND" AS ITS BEEN DESCRIBED. THEY ARE INCLUDED. ON THAT DOUBLE-ALBUM - 1 SONG IS FROM THE UA PERIOD, ANOTHER...IS NOT, BUT ARE PRE'72 ON BOTH GG1 SONGS. HAVE FUN !

HINT: I HAVE SELECTED SOME OF MY PERSONAL FAVOURITES THAT ARE....SECONDARY SONGS IN THE ALBUM 'EXPERIENCE' , WHICH Yuri SAID SO WELL, THE SONGS I CHOSE ARE ALSO AMONG THE MORE MELODIUS, MORE RESTFUL, BEAUTIFUL-BEAUTIFUL SONGS. THEY TEND NOT TO BE THE 'HITS', AND THEREFOR I CALL THEM 'SECONDARY SONGS' - BUT CERTAINLY OF NO LESS BEAUTY OR STATURE OF THE HITS SONGS, THERE MAY BE A HIT OR TWO, FROM SOME TIME OR ANOTHER, AND THE ...CLUE WORDS I CHOSE MAY NOT BE DEFINATIVE, FIRST THOUGHT, FIRST SONG THAT COMES TO MIND. AS WE ALL KNOW BY NOW, HE HAS RECURRING THEMES - AND CORRESPONDING WORDS THAT, AS KEFERA SAID WELL , ARE AMONG HIS LITERARY DEVICES FOR METAPHORS OR...LOST LOVE AS GHOSTS, THATS HIS LITERARY METAPHOR, AS KEFERA SAID. I WOULD ADD TO GHOSTS MY FINDING OF THE WORD 'CHAINS' IS ANOTHER RECURRING METAPOR IMO. I THINK IF ONE WORD HAD TO BE PICKED OF THE SONGS THAT DEFINES THEM, I WOULD SAY AMONG THE MOST 'BEAUTIFUL' SONGS. THATS NOT AN OBSCURE IMBEDDED HINT, ITS ONLY WHAT I CAN REDUCE TO ONE WORD THAT TIES MY CHOICES TOGETHER, SUBJECTIVE TO SAY THE LEAST. YOU COUYLD ALSO SAY OF MY CHOICES THAT MOST ARE NOT THE HITS. MAYBE ONE OR TWO PEPPERED IN THERE, FOR MY TIE THAT BINDS MY CHOICES - ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL MELODIES, AND GORD'S SINGING AS WELL, WHEN HE QUICKDRAWS THAT PERFECTLY CHOSEN TIME TO EXECUTE HIS MASTERFUL VIBRATO, AND WHEN NOT TOO, THAT SEEMS TO DEFINE THIS TIME PERIOD FOR ME.

MAJOR REQUIREMENT THIS TIME ONLY - YOU MUST COME UP WITH THE INTENDED SONG, WHICH I KNOW IS HARDER TO DO, THERE WILL BE MANY REPLIES BY ME LIKE "GOOD CHOICE, (McDUFF... ), BUT THATS NOT IT". THEN LOOK IN ANOTHER SONG FOR THOSE WORDS. THIS TIME, THEY QUITE LIKELY ARE NOT DEFINATIVE WORDS THAT DRAW YOU UNQUELY TO THAT SONG. IN EXCHANGE FOR THAT DIFFUCT REQUIREMENT, I WILL TELL YOU ONE MORE SUBSTANTIVE HINT - NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE 5 ALBUMS IN THIS TIME PERIOD - PER LIGHFOOT.CA - THE MAJOR RELEASES REMEMBER- NO FOREIGN OR OTHERWISE OBSCURE RELASES, THEY ARE THE 'MAIN20' + GG1, AND FOR TEN CLUES, THERE ARE 5 RELEASES (ALBUMS STILL IN THAT DAY) FROM EACH ALBUM/DOUBLE ALBUM.
MOREOVER -I CONVENIENTLY FOR YOU CHOSE EXACTLY TWO FROM EACH ALBUM OR DOUBLE-ALBUM AS THE CASE MAY BE, AND THE SONGS, OF MY CHOICES, I WOULD SAY 8 OR SO ARE -NOT- HIS MAJOR SONGS/HITS/ TITLE CUTS/OR MOST WELL KNOWN SONGS AT ALL - NOT NECESSARILY, THERE MAYBE 2 OR 3 THAT ARE. SO WHILE THIS SEEMS DIFFICULT TO TRY, IT IS ONLY TEN ALBUMS, AND YOU KNOW MANY SONGS TO RULE OUT BY WHAT I TOLD YOU. YOU MAY BE SURPRISED THE WORDS I CHOSE THAT WOULD FIRST MAKE YOU THINK OF ANOTHER SONG RIGHT AWAY - ....ODDS ARE...ITS NOT THAT SONG...ITS A LESSER KNOW ONE.. I DO HOPE THIS HAS BEEN OF HELP.
- Steve

Hi formerlyLavender, say- do you wanna go by anything shorter ? I totally understand if you don't :) - but if you do, what would you like us to call you ?
Various abbreviations of formerlyLavender I ran through a few in my head - and most I could think of sound kind of unflattering or in poor taste/unpleasant connotations what have you - form, nope. Lav - nope.
vender lol -nope. Any thoughts ?, or keep 'er as is, is just fine of course.

OK 'tseeeer:
Q378 .... dawn = 'The Patriot's Dream' - well, its a fine ambig - works just fine for any regular list; it just misses the mark on one count - its not the intended song. I'll know in a few submissions if the ambiguity willl be a major difficulty, in which case I'll come back and add 2nd clues to the lost, ot if my idea of this list is a flop, well I'll just go back and award it to the first ambigs that work - in which case - were that to happen, you'd get this one :) Sorry formerly, good crack at it,

Looking at the Rain

Jenney - the last few lists, you've had an uncanny ability to guess the intended song. On previous lists, that was not as important at all, any one that worked takes it. But this list - only the intended takes it, and you got it !

Q380 Wishing .... = Looking at the Rain & = The intended song - Yes ! A win for the lady in the back there. You get a plastic T-rex.....sorry lady its all we got - but u can trade up with 3 wins to a pseudo-Barbie ! er...a how bout a T-shirt With Gordo(n) & Lightfoot Uni. all together on it !- from cafe press - who are streeeetchin the rules on how to get 'Gordo' & 'Lightfoot Univ.' on the same item. Seriously - has everyone seen Cafe Press' pretty cool attempts to take 'Gordo' more than Lightfoot U. and do clever GL phraseology like 'Gordo' - the best export from Canada ! with a maple leaf flag. If you query Lightfoot in cafe press - Lightfoot Univ items come up - some that almost obliterate the 'Univ' - they're trying real hard. I sure wish Gordon would allow his name on some good beefy-T cotton t-shirts - and hats, messaenger bags, sweatshirts - all the stuff Cafe Press is squeeking in under the law - cause they never say 'Gordon' at all or put 'Lightfoot Univ' with 'Gordo' together - clever they are - I think I saw this mentioned in a thread - cause otherwise I was gonna tell everyone. I'm gonna get a 'gordo is canada's best export' on a golfshirt, and Lightfoot Uni. on a baseball hat. Its better than nothing - and its legal - likely because I've heard anecdotally his legal team grows no grass underfoot :) SO CONGRATS JENNEY !

Hi Ann - OK to call U that ? :)

'tseeer:

Does Q381 .... rain .... = 'Early Morning Rain' & = intended ? I'm sorry Ann. good crack at it - it would work by normal rules as a valid ambig, but in this set of '& = intended song?' - It doesn't. If a trend developes, I'll be more than happy to switch the rules back to 'valid ambiguous songs as normal' - we're pushin' the edge of 50/50 so far, so maybe its ok - but you guys speak up if its not fun for this special set. Again, I am sure you meant Q383 - as the clue matches :)

Does Q393 .... think .... = Mother of A Miner's Child & = intended song ? Sorry Ann, again it is a valid ambig but not the intended song. Thank you for playing !

HINT REPEAT FOR EVERYBODY: REMEMBER THERE ARE ONLY TWO FROM EACH OF THE FIVE RELEASES, INCL. GG1, AND ON THAT DOUBLE LP, ONE SONG IS FROM THE RE-RECORDED UA PERIOD. ONE IS FROM THE AS-IS REPRISE SONGS OF THE 2ND LP.

Q383 ... think ...
Song: Somewhere U.S.A.
Lyric: Though you think it's the drink that has made me behave this way

Does Q383 .... think .... = Somewhere U.S.A. & = intended song ? no,sorry Ann. I'd say that would make three from Sundown, but then again it could be from GG1 :) I think I know what I can do that might help everybody = post the 5 releases by their respective clues. That way - your onnly siftin through 9 - 12 songs - or on GG1- 20-some I think. I'll post successes, now too, that'll help. I normally do that after all input -at the moment- is...assimilated :), but it would be of help as we go here. BUT WAIT - I just looked at the update I just posted - I am presently processing the input from the 2nd Q383, and I see at LEAST one more sucess ahead - so in the overall picture - we''ll have at LEAST 1/2 correct thus far - so maybe I should not post the albums by their (2) respective clues each. I'll take suggestions ? . Remember, too, as to the update mini-list - it is natural for that to appear behind, by it being posted after unprocessed submits, if you think about it, you'll know that is correct. There are several submits above this to process, and at any given time but the end, posting a mini-update will appear after unprocessed submits. As I say I am presently editing the 2nd submit on 383 by manodann, then Q381 overhead from mandoann is next, got out of order on just one I think :) And Ann - its good news :) on 381
I got out of order on that, its a bit confusing to go to processing below (or above as order is reversed while posting) lol -sorry you had to wait to see 381 now that I'm further down by one or two.

Lyric: 'Cause we been friends through rain or shine

Does Q381 .... rain .... = Beautiful & = intended ? Yes ! You got it !

Congrats, Ann.

Wow 3 submissions from Lynn ! -phew- I owe you an apology on Q381, Lynn, it was submitted and processed for the winning 'Beautiful' - but not posted earlier - & I accidentally processed it out of order. Yours is the first subsequent to her correct one I could have saved you some super-brain-power on ! So, I''ll consequentially process Q380 & Q384 okeedokee ? (I learned to say that working at a gas station when I was a teenager lol , that and allrightey, and you bet'cha)

Er......uhm.... Lynn.....you remember how good-natured EVERYBODY has been saying you are ? Well, I KNOW its true. So you won't kill me when I don't know if I overlooked timing-wise a helpful update, or processed it to the winning clues after your submissions or what......its to painful to think about after my Q381 oops with mandoann - where I KNOW I processed THAT out of order, but ,....um..

But, Q380 and Q384 gave been successfully won allready, too. Lemme look,

Nope, I'm in the clear phew- on Q380 and Q384 anyway, I processed those in order after your submit, with Jenney's and mandoann's respectively on 380 and 384 submissions -properly- that were before your submissions. Q381 was the one I could have saved you the effort on, as I mentioned above. This can get weird, when the posting is in process -the others reverse their on-screen order - seems to me I can change that order at will , though. I will if I remember right. I think the only one of anybody's I processed out of order is mandoann's correct Q381 as near as I can see. And you had such a big effort on your 3-way submission ! I am indeed sorry about my screw-up on 381, and I feel bad for you on the other 2.. If anybody wants to take the Machiavellian time to nail my hide to the wall lol , they can scrutinize my overview I just did. If I am wrong, I will definately admit to being human and a bipodal hominid, most definately lol...... If its any -sort of- consolation - there is not a win in your submits Lynn (oh that'll make her feel SO MUCH BETTER), or I WOULD correct it in the mini-updates if the order is other than I read it :) Either way, sally forth Lynn, damn the torpedoes ! Keep on Keepin on ! uhh something like that :) I'll just sneak out of here.....dink dink dink.....
(pixie and dixie sneaking sounds)

Lynn - I just noticed 2 of your songs are out of the time period - then only one is in by virtue of being on Gord's Gold - 'Wherefor and Why' - the other 2 are out of date range. Too further help - take note of which two songs are on GG1 - nobody's got them yet. Date range - is '72 - '75 - incl GG1 as the only compilation.

Looking at the Rain.

Dawn has a comma though, so I don't think it's correct. It does fall into the parameters of the albums you wanted though!

Hi Jenney - mando ann took a stab at it earlier, too.

Does Q378 .... dawn = Looking at the Rain & = the intended song ? Nope, sorry Jenny. Song: Dream Street Rose

Lyric : Each morning when I wake up with the dawn

Sorry Ron, not the intended song. I'll post another update board. I also noticed that your song submitted is out of the date range specified of '72 - '75 - That and the next page clues should help a lot...Thanks for playing, Ron

HINT TO ALL: Sundown is done(Q376 & 377), GG1 (Q378 & Q379) nobody has yet, remember one is from UA re-recorded, the other is the Warner/Reprise years song: the song is from The Album IYCRMM - but the album's date is impertinent - as the song is on GG1 as mentioned at the start, which IS in the '72- '75 time period. DQ (Q380 &381) IS 1/2 DONE WITH Jenney's Looking at the Rain, COTS - nobody has gotten either Q382 and Q383 from COTS, AND ODR Album is done - (384 &Q385) The 'two from each album' album order, corresponding with the numerical order of the clues is: Sundown, GG1,DQ,COTS,& ODR -- you'll see this corresponds with the status board - that should help especially on Q378 it seems :) - moreover - Q378 is one of the UA period songs re-recorded on GG1 !

The above correct answer is for (Q378) won by you Char, AND IS :one of the two on GG1 , the other on GG1 is: Q379 is sorta like a minstrel and .......like a troubadour in the wee' hours of the morn' , and is from IYCRMM- ... that'll finish GG1, and THAT will leave only Q383 from COTS to go , :) Then, our 'Broad Brimmed Period' a.k.a. ('72 - '75 RELEASES ) , and the whole list, will be done. A clue for Q383 would be 'present, and past'(or sometime) - for the song title

You got it Ann ! Thank God somebody read my clues ! lol (and refreshed their screen) ;)

This turned out to be a mind-bending trip through how Gord uses words you would associate with certain songs imediately, in other songs...know what I mean ? Like, when I hear 'chains' - I immediately think of IYCRMM
That sort of thing... KNOWN KNOCK KNOCK everbuddy - you a.. know wadeye mean uh ?

Like 'rain' in 'Beautiful' ? Not 'Looking at the Rain' ?
'deck' in 'Circle of Steel' - not 'High and Dry' ?
'dawn' in 'Softly' ? not 'Minstrel of the Dawn' ?
'chains' in 'All the Lovely Ladies' ? not IYCRMM ?

and etcetera ..... of course we know all the above, but I just think its interesting how he has prevalent , if not 'favoured' atmospheric words in many more songs than you would expect... chains, rain, softly, I could go on and on - appear all over....I guess thats part of the 'Lightfoot' feeling ..think ? oh -and above I mean 'instead of' vs 'not' in... of course they are in the song you'f expect them in...but I imbedded another 'secret' in this list - words you'd associate with other songs than the first one you'd expect. Hope you enjoyed it. :)

geosteve,

Personally I found the "intended song" idea to be quite challenging. Do you realize how difficult it is to answer the question "I wonder what geosteve was thinking" ?

I also found it enjoyable. Thanks

Ron, Thank you. At first - of no surprise to you I'm sure - I wrote a long rambling, non-sequiter tome on what I think about...then I remembered - naw - Ron is a bottom-line ,boil it down, non-verbose person - at least on-line lol.. So I trimmed down my reply from rambling thoughts on what all things do I think about -from the divergant patterns of thought that led to my friends giving me a t-shirt in the 70's that said 'Don't bother me now - I'm on 'auto-pilot'...lol.. and then same friends 30 years later gave me a hat that reads - like the movie title, but not LIKE the MOVIE lol - 'Hard to Kill, part 4' - lol - no need for me to delve into the wilderness and medical origins of that, so , I've trimmed-down to what I think of when I pick out word clues aka what you WANTED to know, not what you didn't ...lol.

I tried hard to make this last ten an interesting twist with about 4 bends in it. I'm glad you found it...challenging... main thing though - as long as its fun......as you say, you found it enjoyable, thats what makes it worthwhile for me.

I've definately been thinking a LOT about lifting the 'chains' of mine - that oddly come from good memories, then a loss, etc.... but game thoughts OK.. hmmm

I allways seem to sneak 2 -3 favourite songs in a list ! - So I've been trying to diversify on the songs - and jump around 60's - 70's - 80's-2000's etc songs... lately I've been using words one would associate quickly with certain songs of Gord's - but interestingly are found in many other songs - I have yet to determine the number of how many songs have 'rain', 'chains' etc - as above post that I mention it in. So if any one game-related predictable thought pattern I have been doing lately- is using frequently-used words of his - in the least likely songs (on the surface anyway).

And thanks - for telling me it was enjoyable this last ten.... and I only want the game to be challenging enough to be interesting, not to see if I can stump you guys - not at all... my main goal is that we all have fun...so by what you said - I think I'm getting closer to a balance of 'challenging on the edge of stumping' - vs 'so easy its a walk in the park'... - which isn't such a bad thing - but I 'spect the balance is most fun huh ? ...............

"Yes, your mind is much more diverse than mine" - no noo... I would never imply or state my mind is more diverse than someone elses or yours, what I meant was "divergant' - I think from the top down - most ppl think from the bottom up !
It was a huge obstacle when doing homework in high school and college - with predominantly convergant minds than my awkward and not so desirable divergant mind - (not diverse) - no, Ron, your thinking is very astute and (I envy this) succinct and to the point. I am a rambler, a day-dreamer , I sit up at 4 am and say 'Thats it !' - and write down a solution to something on paper and pencil by my bedside....no divergant thinking is weird - not so enviable lol.... - and in no way better than your thinking Ron.... lol

sorry - why do we keep thinking we offended each other , when I think we havn't lol.... ?

'WWCT' ? lol happy tune ? There are some terrific songs on that album = Tattoo, Whispers of the North' - but you just gotta look at the album cover photo - thats wy I called it his 'pissed off' album - he looks angry on the cover !. Well anyway....You've got an ambiguous song vs the intended, but the theme I gotta stay consistent with - Happy songs. So -good guess Char - but I gotta hold to the theme, and not necessairly the intended, song - I'll take an ambiguous song, that is happy, but.....sorry Char - WWCT ? lol...

You're on to my divergant mind path Ron. Its happening... are you suddenly growing a lot of neanderthal-like body hair, the final sigh is no beginning and no end, no upside and no downside, the Mobius path of thought. Visualize one end of the path, twisting it once, and re-attaching it. That is the one-side ribbon trail. You are on the jouney to divergant serenity, Ron. Next, you must learn to control chaos, and qauntify its fractal crenulations. Then, you are the start of the long jouney that leads nowhere but inward....and cheap incense. lol..

You got the song right Ron, like I said, you are able to emulate the 'wwgt' lol

i believe that might be 14 karat gold!

(Bowing to the master) we're not worthy, we're not worthy......! lol

A visting dignitary ! Joveski - good to have you playin on this one - we've been seeing somewhat less I'd say of ya for maybe a week now . And thats...OK.....cause he's good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it - people like him ! (SNL skit... hope U all remember.....anybody.?.....dink dink dink) - the dink dink dink's are my latest attempt at repetitive, or re-appearing comedy sound effect , Mende - did you ever see Pixie and Dixie cartoons when you were little ? I don't know hpw old you are - I'm 50 and caught the last couple years of those darn little mice.lol....last year actualy lol.....hmmm...anyway dink....dink.. stalking away with the cheese left out by mistake - and sneaking by the cat - dink...dink.....dink.....dink......anybody ?

Ok.... OH - THE GAME ! lol...
Q392 .... proud = 14 karat gold & equal happy ?

Well, yes to it works, no matter that it is not the intended song this round... but I'd have to honestly rule its not a happy or cheerful song. So... Mende - if you disagree on that note, we'll run it up the flagpole - we're still a democracy in here :) - for now, I've gotta say nope. Sorry Bro' . Anyhoo - good to see its down in the 60's and 70's your way.... sound right ? Thanks for playin Mende - the other song..........left - I have the perfect one-sentence extra clue on it....

Thank you very much Misty, and its very nice to hear from you :) Havn't had you come in lyrics quizzers in awhile, and, HEY ! I know what I should tell you about - the Corfid CAFE - I started in small talk - largely because I was blabbing on as you know I do lol... in here, and thought I should move my general blather over to the cafe. its a 'talk about anything on your mind" thread - with kinda rocky numbers in and out, I think because I have not checked in and replied to some quite enough.

Anyhoo - I appreciate the compliment very much, MistyMoppins :) Yes, I never would have guessed this idea would hold interest for as long as it has.... we've gone through several changes in format, simpler rules, etc., and about 8 or so regulars play the most, but anyone of course is allways welcome. Sure would like to have you play !

Which reminds me, Ihave to post my new 10 clue/questions !

Thank you, Misty

I'LL HAVE THE NEW 1- UP BY SATURDAY , GUYS, SORRY FOR THE DELAY.

I cooked up a whole new test list theme, with a test change to the clues, they are, for this ten, "double clues" - you'll see, and a simple theme as in the last theme,. however cloying as I look back at the start of the last ten and I am a little embarrassed - "HAPPY SONGS" - I sounded like Mr. Roger's neighbourhood...lol.

I'd look forward to them being up by early evening tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, everbuddy...

Thanks Steve! It's good to be back even though I tend to pop in and out.

I've been catching up on my reading and I think your "Corfid Cafe" is a fantastic idea! Especially with the way everyone gets along so well here - never at a loss for things to chat about!

One thing about this thread that's esp. amazing is the views - somewhere over 15,000? egads! (I'll take credit for some of those! Not brave enough to play, though! LoL!)

Take care. xoxo

Thanks Misty, regarding the Corfid.cafe - it really came very simply from a need to get - and keep-out , my blabberty from this thread, and keep it focused, we wre all having si much fin just talking it got to be hard to find where we were in the game, despite my colorfull updates lol !

BTW - the 'success' if one may say that about lyrics, is not one that should be attributed to me, its the players. i''m just the dummy that asks the questions (granted, with answers allready determined ) - but its definately the player s who desrve the credit. I know everyone appreciates your compliments.

And the cafe has changed to a talk about whatever, whenever, where we can come pretty close to a chat , as I know Patti and I did today. I missed RM in the middle, though; you have to screen refresh to see who all said wjhat. And the idea is sorta that if you have something you want to bend someone's ear on, maybe your down, maybe you're up ! And it doesn;t seem somehoe to warrant a thread of its own - thats the niche for the Cafe.

Thanks again MisytMoppins. Good to see your name in hear again.

geodeticman.5

Misty - one more thought, regarding your comment on the sheer number of 'views' as opposed to posts. It used to be about a 10:1 ratio = view10, post 1 that is... And when I noticed that one time was when Ron Measoner made a casual comment about it, like it might be a record in corfid maybe, who knows, We agreed its interesting to note, but no big deal. I do Wonder how many of those views are coming from outside of corfid proper, like with the tags I have on it, people in other websites on folk music, lyrics etc could do a query on Lightfoot, folk-legends, even geodeticman, and get the thread.

I tagged it with: gordon lightfoot (oddly it changes caps you enter to lower case in the display anyway) ,folk-legend, lyrics , & geodeticman, (5 'words' is all it will take) because I am a member of several different folk & lyrics sites, myspace, other science and math stuff, and I go by geodeticman in all - and maybe we'll get some ppl interested just enough to come in, then stay for the good conversation & music ! I don;t think lyrics holds a record of any kind, even internally - the thread for 'What is you favourite Lightfoot song' comes in first -the old venerable thread that comes up once inawhile like with new memebers, and it rises fron the depths of archival numbers - but its still a live thread, then it gradually sinks back down over time again to 2,000 or something posts !

Its possible the lyrics thread has more loogie-loo views, but I'm pretty sure 'favourite song' has lyrics beat on posts by a long shot. No matter, and at least others brought it up, not myself; raising that question by myself would have felt kind of in poor taste, but its fun someone else did !

Now on views, I noticed that at the time I looked, the 10:1 thing varied seemingly from 5:1 to around 15:1 . So, just for S's and G's, I added 5 thread tags - the key words we all know that commercial sites actually pay people to come up with to catch as many semi-specific queries as possible, and it works. But they take it to a ridiculous spam extreme.

In here, however, when I added the 5 tags, sure enough, at the time we were about 10:1(in lyrics), and rose to 15:1, maybe a fluke, no matter. But it has no bearing on players, now that I think about it. Unles we catch a Lighthead. And as we;ve all said many times, they find us. The tags do work, thread be thread, 5 per.... well enuf of my blabberty. back to work on lyrics for a Satudrday night. I have them all figured out. Just have to format, upload, and throw the giant pump-first Electric main on lol.....we should be up in about an hour or less.

I'm so sorry for all who've been patiently waiting for me to be active again in the game; its medical and I'll just leave it at that. I miss you guys, and hope to be up and running this weekend (I say this time wise due to a scheduled procedure that should help, and its tomorrow, well really now today, on Friday.) C U gamers ASAP on my end. Thank you for your patience.

Hi guys, I am on a borrowed computer at the moment, and am stuck in a hotel out of town for awhile w/o my laptop, which is on the fritz. I am experiencing Lightfoot/corfid-withdrawal . I'll be on-line only for very limited 5 - 10 minutes, etc, here and there when I can borrow this computer as I am now.

Please accept my apologies for lyrics being down for so long, and for awhile longer as well. Bigger fish in life is frying whether I like it or not - I don't

I miss all of you in all aspects of corfid; and lyrics quizzers as well. At least I can listen to The Man's music for now.

Oh, Linda

Hey geo Steve, good to hear from you. Thanks for checking in, even if on a borrowed computer. "Quizzers" will be here, as will we, when you are ready to return. Take care.

To the sunset you can see it, all in fiery autumn dress
It seems - ONLY Lightfoot can convey the entire image, feel, sights, sounds, fragrance of Autumn, feel of the leaves crunching underfoot, etc. - an entire Autumn sunset painting given life and legs by The Man, with blazing beautful leaves quite that way - unbelievable, yes- genius, but more than sheer intellect - the gift of song writing which knows no intellect as a pre-requisite - but Lightfoot's particular brand of genius has been observed many times in corfid - his powerful command of the English language as we've commented here and there,................

he has to be a well-read man,

Well said Steve
But Well read??
Maybe maybe not
A couple of years ago I was bitterly disapointed after I had given Gord a specially found second hand copy of one of my favourite non fiction books
"The River That God Forgot" by Richard Collier

This superbly written book describes the activities of the Amazon rubber barons at the beginning of the 20th century,a book that I felt would appeal to Gordon because it is largely set in Manaus, yes "Mann-owse" the Brazilian city he had visited and found "The No Hotel" in.
In the hotel the morning after I had given him the book I tried to stress that I hoped he would enjoy it but he calmly responded by saying something like
"But I don't read books"!!

He probably reads the sports pages of the local papers and laments the crappy teams we have but still loves them just the same..
just like I do.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the inspiration to write "The Wreck" came while reading about it in Macleans or Newsweek and realizing that the event was going to slip under most people's radar & disappear into local history.

So I'm sure he does read but books aren't everyone's passion and when you are busy nothing is as frustrating as trying to read a book in five minute snatches. I love to read but sometimes newspapers, magazines & internet forums are all I can manage!
