Gordon Lightfoot At Casino Regina Show Lounge
Big show last night at the Casino Regina Show Lounge. Even though I was off on holidays this week, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to witness one of the Canadian Icons, one last time.
Gordon is past the prime of his career at 73, but this weathered veteran of the folk-pop era shone for us again last night. You have to look past the weak vocal range and admired the genius lyricist that is Gordon Lightfoot. I have appreciated what he has done in his 5 decades of performing and so did the sold out audience. I only wish he would of discussed his history with each song. Gordon wasn’t a big conversationalist on the stage, he got right to the music and gave us our moneys worth.
Gordon played a good portion of his hits and the ones he wrote for others. His show went for about 90 minutes with an encore. He recieved a well deserving standing ovation for his defining hits and left the stage with 2 thumbs up.
Donnie and I were invited to go backstage into the green room after the show by his road manager Warren. That was a treat in itself. I talked to Gordon for a few minutes about his song Ribbon Of Darkness (number one for Marty Robbins) and how it launched him into stardom. He was grateful for Marty choosing that song.
Here’s my introduction I put together to introduce the Canadian Icon…..
