Default Early Morning Rain

Hi folks.

Been away for a while as there's a lot goin' on, but I want to share this as it was one of those experiences that uplifted me and entertained thoughts of upcoming stuff like the pub jam etc.
On CBC radio 2, Saturday, between 5 and 6pm Tom Power (fellow Newfy) hosts a show called "Deep Roots" and yesterday it was a program about what would have been the 76th birthday of Elvis Presley.
Information is available by clicking on "CBC.ca," then click "radio" and to the right you'll see "program name" and, in red, below click on "visit CBC radio 2." From there click "schedule" and you'll see Saturday between 5 & 6 on the right hand side "Deep Roots." Also on the right side there shows a pic of Tom and just below, the title of his show "The King Blows Out the Candles."
I hope I got all that correct but if not I'm sure if you juggle it around a bit it will come up. My computer skills are not great.
There is a great video of Norah Jones singing "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and they say that "the playlist is coming up." That was a far as I got with it, but the show includes "Gillian Welch" and "Dave Rawlings" with a tune called "Elvis Presley Blues." Now this really is some piece of heartstringing work. OMG!
But to end the show, guess what: "Elvis doing Gord's "Early Morning Rain."
Well, I'll tell ya; after listening to that, and I'm a big Elvis fan, but a bigger Gord fan, I was moved out into the ozone layer. Now the inspiration may have helped a bit as well.
But, to move on, and giving it some thought, I don't recall "EMR" ever being performed at any of our pub jam gigs, so with your approval, I would like to have the honor of including that one in the upcoming gig this year.
Very much looking forward.
RJ.

Sounds good already Ron! - might even make it to down to the show this year.
...and many thanks for the CD's you've so generously shared with me.
Y.

I would like to challenge the impromptu orchestra to try to emulate this stirring version of EMR as witnessed by the Elder Jones back in 2008

Hey John,

This is great; and yes, it would be a real treat to have this performance again.

Tomorrow, in the early mornin' Vancouver rain it's flyin' the silver bird on high for me back to where it's snowin' in the city and the streets are brown and gritty in Toronto. Yes, for one week and to take in the Lightfoot Tribute Shows at Hugh's Room and also to connect with a few of the local folks, Char, Kenyon and Johanna for sure and from there, who knows. But it will be a fun time.

And of course the trip would not be complete without a sipping a pint of Guinness with the McVeigh folks at the pub and yes John, I will make a special request to Paul McVeigh to have the band there for another unique performance of EMR.

Cheers, RJ.

Hey Char.

There wouldn't be enough room on the stage for me dressed up in an Elvis jumpsuit with a boomin big Gibson B45 12 string strapped on. Guess it's gonna have to be Gord style. RJ.
