Dear Frank the fifth ("v")
A quick reply before heading off to work. Prefering the acoustic to the electric, my three favo(u)rites "rarities" from Songbook, not necessarily in this order, are:
You'll Still Be Needing Me;
Heaven Don't Deserve Me; and
(surprise surprise) Too Much To Lose
By the way, I just read the 1960's version (unreleased) of the lyrics to 2M2L on the "Lightfoot!" website (there is a lot of interesting stuff on that site, and Florian has provided a link, thoughtful as always). I haven't checked yet when the Songbook version was recorded, but its placement on Disk Two indicates that it is in the early Warner period. It had puzzled me that Gord had written that song for Cool Hand Luke, which is a mid-1960s movie, and then placed it on Disk Two. Now I have an explanation.
If you check out the older version lyrics, you will find that they are rougher and less cohesive than the released version (the re-write is a substantial improvement). The released version also softens the gambling references, eliminating a verse, moving the dustcloud reference from the first to the second verse, etc. It's an interesting peek at the evolution of a song, almost like seeing a rough draft.
Got to go. I'll check out your other new posts later.
Concert tonight at TownHall NYC. Lucky me. Anyone else going to be there?

Nice touch, 2 much.
Just call me Frank.
I'm stuck with that typing error small('v')
It should have been a capital.
I thought it might be needed, in case there were more Franks on the sight..........
My top two
Forgive me Lord,
Lifeline.
I'm still thinking about the third...
Frank-v=Frank.

My 3 favorite previously unissued songs are:
Remember Me
Borderstone
Too Much To Lose
That wasn't quite as hard as choosing your favorite GL song (lol)

My three favorites:
Remember Me (I"m The one who loves you)
I remember when I first heard this one as a young teenager. I was visiting my Aunt who ran a motel in Bobcaygeon. It was a while before I realized it was Gordon who sang it.
Forgive Me Lord Just a great song
