I've always liked the fact that GL never used a different group of studio musicians with every album he made. Which leads me to my question.

What precipated the switch from Red Shea to Terry Clements? I know that TC has been with him so long that it may be a dumb question but I'm just curious.

Obviously, Clements is incredible and has been a fantastic asset to Lightfoot's music, but I sure loved Red Shea's style. Extremely tasty.

What happened? Is Red still around? Are he and GL still friends?

I know I've seen some Q's in here about which of the two people prefer.

Thank you

Joe

Hi Joe,
I saw something on this same site under Press Clippings:

January 2000
Terry Clements in the Lead
By Ben Elder

Clements' association with Adler included recording, producing, arranging. Performing, and gofer work. He eventually got into film-score work, where he met Lightfoot. "A friend of mine was writing the score for a film at Paramount," he recalls. "They wanted to try Gord singing the title theme. They called him in and right then and there he said, 'You want to join my band?' That's when Red [Shea] was still in there. I said I wanted to try this movie music stuff for a while. Then Gord calls up out of the blue, like late 1970, and says, 'What're you doing? How would you like a hipper gig? Red wants to get off the road, so I'm looking for a guitar player.'" Lightfoot flew Clements up to Toronto for an audition, and the two have been collaborators ever since.

I believe Red was just working with Gord on Harmony wasn't he? He was on Flyin' Blind and No Mistake About it. My dad LOVES Red's guitar work on FB.
