Lightfoot Looks Forward to Touring Again
Associated Press
NEW YORK - Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot says that he hopes to be able to tour again by July.
Lightfoot had a blood vessel burst in his abdomen in September 2002 and he's been in and out of the hospital since then. He's currently recovering from muscle grafts in his abdomen from his legs.
Lightfoot, known for such songs as "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," "Sundown" and "If You Could Read My Mind," has been through two rounds of surgery and has another scheduled for the spring. He is a five-time Grammy nominee whose songs have been covered by Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986.
"I think the diaphragm and all is in order," he said in an interview with AP Radio. "Part of the game is to be able to continue, you see. It's a challenge."
The challenge, he said, has helped center him and move forward as a musician.
"Getting one's life organized is a good idea," he said. "I'm happy to be given a little extra time."
Lightfoot is putting out a new album that he put together while he was still in the hospital. It's called "Harmony" and it comes out May 11.

No, but first he'd been talking early 2005, then somewhere or other mentioned a possible 10 concert tour in the fall, and now it's July. He says he thinks "the diaphragm and all is in order" - sounds like the transplant took and he's' itching to get back at it. Waiting for more....

I was wondering what Gord would be doing to promote "Harmony". Even if he couldn't do any concerts yet, I'm sure Linus would like him to maybe go on a talk show or two and let people know it's out. A visit to the Today show or Regis couldn't hurt. There'd be plenty to talk about what with the time in the hospital, the unique way the album was put together, etc.

It sounds great and I'm usually a perfect optimist but in this case I have to take more skeptic approach. Not that I doubt his word bt to put it simply,I can only totally believe it when I see it happen.
Not tryin' to be a party poofer! I want to see him gt back out there just as much as you all do. It's been me,later!

It's good to be cautious, B, and I wish the columnist had specified July of this year or next. On the other hand, I don't think Gord would mention it in an interview unless he was pretty sure it would happen. All we can do is wait and see.

Ya know, since we ALL want to be at his first concert back...unless it's on Mars or Australia...it's gonna sell out quick. Well -he'll probably sell out in Australia too - it's just that I don't think I could go the fare, LOL.
