Gordon Lightfoot returns to the small screen with new music video
TORONTO (CP) - Folk legend Gordon Lightfoot is back on TV in a music video after 23 years.
The singer's video for his new single Inspiration Lady is in rotation on MuchMoreMusic and Country Music Television Canada. It's the first for the 65-year-old songwriter since 1981's In My Fashion, Blackberry Wine, Shadows and Baby Step Back.
Shot on a cold day in early February, the three-minute clip shows a thinner Lightfoot strumming his guitar in what appears to be an old storage warehouse. Images of an older woman, who gets progressively younger throughout the video, cuts in and out as Lightfoot sings the track about adoration and love.
It was directed by Stephen Scott, a longtime video director whose body of work includes spots for the Barenaked Ladies, Shaggy and Creed, as well as commercial clients Ford, Timex, and Wal-Mart.
Inspiration Lady is the first release from Lightfoot's upcoming album Harmony, out May 11. The record is the Orillia, Ont.-born entertainer's first studio album in six years and was finished while the singer was recovering in hospital from a stomach ailment.

I wondered if the table GL is using in the video is one that he uses in his composing that is referenced in a few articles--the one with the coffee ring stains.

Anyone know what the piece of electronic equipment in front of him is? A tape recorder? And what is the big star sign hanging in the background. Is it an old advertising sign?

The sign in back of him is a very, very old Mobil Gas station sign. My guess about what's in front of him is a transistor radio or tiny TV.
