From this morning's DAILY VARIETY:

Inside Move: From 'Sundown' to second act

Canuck hitmaker back on tracks after illness

By STEVEN GAYDOS

This time last year, Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot was battling for his life, having suffered a ruptured artery. His larynx shredded from the emergency procedures, the odds against the troubadour surviving, let alone continuing to make music, looked bleak.
So it's no small feat that Lightfoot celebrated his 65th birthday Nov. 17 by working on the mixes for an as-yet untitled new album. After decades with Warner Bros, he's got a new record deal with young Canadian indie Linus Records, which is distributed in Canada by Warners.

Prexy Geoff Kulawick says the goal at Linus is "to make this the biggest album of Lightfoot's career."

The tracks were put together over the past three years and include, says Kulawick, "everything from full-fledged masters to brilliant demos that Gordon has dug into and 'sexed-up.' "

The author of "Early Mornin' Rain" and "If You Could Read My Mind" is also working on a musicvideo and getting involved in film and TV projects related to his songs.

A tribute album called "Beautiful" (Borealis/NorthernBlues) has also just come out.

Lightfoot is a survivor. I sure can't wait until the new CD is released. And a video? That would be really cool.

Any word on the separation of he and his wife?

Didn't someone say the name of the album would be 'Twenty'? I could be wrong, but I don't think that's the best way to name an album(unless there's a song on the album called 'Twenty').

"Twenty" as title was mentioned in one of the articles (Globe and Mail, maybe?) Could be that's the working title he was using before signing with Linus. We'll have to wait and see if it changes. Generally he's titled albums after one of the songs on it.

That's what would be so odd about him naming the album "Twenty".(The only album that he didn't name after one of the songs on it besides Gords Golds and other albums with old songs that springs to mind is 'Back Here On Earth'.
