Discussing challenges to our health, Jenney shared with me her emotions when hearing the opening chords of Lightfoot at her first concert post surgery. She warned me that when those first notes rang our her tears began to flow and that I might expect the same.
To frenzied applause, Gord emerged from the darkness and immediately started the set with ’Triangle’.
What a year! I made it!! Gord live!, and no tears!
It wasn’t until about midway through the first set that Gord and the band broke into ’Beautiful’. That did it! For me! Holding Cathy’s hand I thought back twenty years to our wedding day when I could walk upright and still had hair insulating my head. We had asked the band to play Gord’s ‘Beautiful’ as our first song -for our opening dance.
“No Problem! - You’ve got it!”
The magic moment approached and as Cathy and I approached the dance floor, held hands and lovingly stared into each other’s eyes, we suddenly grimaced in disbelief!
The band had confused ‘Beautiful’ for ‘Beautiful’!!!
“You are so bee-autiful, to meeeeeeeeeeeeeee, can’t you see?”……………
So our magic moment was not enveloped by the loving music of Gordon Lightfoot, but rather Joe Cocker!
That mistake would bring tears to most anyone’s eyes!
Jenny, you were right! My eyes were more than misty, happy to be experiencing Gord once more and having my loving wife beside me.
Even from a wheelchair, life can be good!

What a coincidence. I just watched an old video clip of Joe Cocker the other night.
Man, was/is that guy ever spastic! He jerks around like he has some type of brain damage.

Yuri, forgive me, but that story is too funny. I'm sure it wasn't too funny for you and your new wife at the time, but to hear you tell it now...
I had a similarly funny story on my wedding day. I had a new "friend" volunteer to be a soloist at my wedding ceremony, and although I hadn't heard her sing in public, I trusted that she was pretty good as I knew she had sang in some bar bands, etc. But anyway, I had chosen Bridge Over Troubled Water for her to sing...what a mistake. The opening words are "When you're weary...", and she was singing it really really low, and really really slow, and I will say, I never thought the song would end. It is one of the reasons I never watch the video tape of my wedding. Funny now, but not too funny then.

The difference though is Joe's song is called,"You Are So Beautiful" while Gord's is just "Beautiful".
Why in the world would they sing that song anyway? It's nice but very played out.

Yep, told ya so! I'll never forget being at Massey, after wondering if I'd ever make it to another concert, and just losing it during the first song.
I have to admit to getting a bit misty this time too, as he played IYCRMM. How many times I've sat there, how many years, what a constant that has been in my life.
SOme of us sat around last night after the show and shared a few stories. One of the funniest was Donnie telling us about a wedding that played IYCRMM. Um, gee folks, ever really listen to the lyrics? And you want that at your wedding?? Good luck!
Again, great to see you there Yuri.
