I was perusing the boards and saw a couple mention thier kids. My daughter will usually stroll down here near to bedtime and ask to hear the "night-night" song (aka The Pony Man) anyone else introducing the offspring to Him?

My son was raised on Gord and was even dragged along to concerts. When he was pre-teen it was cool, then not-so-cool (at least not to admit it) when he reached teens. Today...at age 22, he is appreciative but, sadly, not a true fan. Yet I still have hope for the future!

I don't know what it is about parents and music. I used to say I did not like the music my parents listened to. Now that I am grown; I find our tastes are not that far apart. I have 2 girls ages 7 and 10. While neither of them would say they were big Gordon fans (or other artists I enjoy) they can sing many of his songs. I do not want to push them but, I think they will eventually know (and appreciate) quality music when they hear it.

My daughter was not even 2 when she could identify a GL song by saying "Gord". She even requested "Gord" music to dance to. Now she is five, and anytime I get my guitar out she requests the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

My kids, 11 and 12, claim not to be Lightfoot fans. My daughter, the 11-year-old, been to one concert. My son hasn' t seen Gord in person. They complain that I play too much Lightfoot music on the car stereo. I have recently noticed, though, that my daughter sings along with Gord in the car if her brother isn't there. She sang "Romance" word for word, which surprised me, as I don't play the Salute CD that often. There may be hope for her yet.

hello, my children all know Gords' music and they know the capacity of Gord as a musician. Each of the three plays a musical instrument and they all love Gords' music for different reasons. Our oldest for the public aspects that his music displayed... Gord could have stayed small and in Canada not many of us would have ever known of him (thank God he did not). My middle child and only daughter has a romantic heart and so the lyrics are things that she identifies with in his music. The youngest is a guitarist that has the wild guitar picking style that somehow I believe he was influenced by the intrinisic guitar of Gords' music...he and I share reads here and at other sights about Gords' music and style it gives me hope that while our generation will pass, Gords' music and style will continue to influence and define other generations.

I first discovered Gordon Lightfoot by giving a few of my Dad's records a spin. Although he was never the fan that I am he did intoduce me to him. Now My 9 yo son loves to listen to the Edmund Fitzgerald. I would love to bring him to a concert

My children are too old now for me to sing to but when they were young, they heard me play and sing many a GL song. My oldest is 30 now and has many CD's and albums of GL. I do now have 3 grand children to play and sing GL songs to. I believe GL will live on long after many of the great ones have been long forgotten.

I have a three year old son who asks for "Couchiching" as we drive in the car, as well as "No Hotel." It's great. He actually sings along. Amazing what they pick up. The great thing about these two Gord songs is that they are simple and catchy and somewhat repetitive. Exactly what children love. My daughter is beginning to enjoy Gord too. She is 10. I think if Gord could see my 3 year old, singing along with "Lake Couchiching," he would have a little chuckle.
