This house at Fairhaven on the Great Ocean Road (1-2 hours south-west of Melbourne) is on top of a concrete pylon and well out from the cliff. As the attached video shows, it was one of the few Fairhaven houses to survive the Ash Wednesday bushfire on 16Feb1983.
Nice one David
It must be something in the local water or milk!!
In 2007 I was most struck by a similarly unlikely bovine "sculpture" seen on the route of the circular tram tour from Flinders Street
If it's not one thing it's the udder!!
John, I vaguely recall seeing that upside-down cow in Melbourne's new Docklands area.
Charlene, the original beachhouse is being removed, but the pole and walkway are remaining and a more modern house will be built on it. I spent this week on the Great Ocean Road and the rebuilding of the pole house was the talk of the coast.
