Default We had a Great Month

Hi Group,

My new bride and I have had quite a time the past few weeks.
We got married on Sept 3rd. Of course we had to include Gord's "Beautiful" as she walked down the aisle. We've been very happy.
No big honeymoon yet, but a couple of wonderful small trips.

On Sept. 24th we saw Gordon in Osceola, Iowa.
It was a wonderful concert Gord and the band were great. But there was a big suprise for us. After Gord told his hare joke, he reached in his pocket, pulled out a note and announced that he wanted to dedicate the next song to Kevin and Erin , then he played "Beautiful". What a wonderful and special moment for us. A friend who attended the concert with us had called the front desk and left a note for Gord. After the show we meet Gordon and thanked him and had a photo taken with him. Whenever we've meet him he has always been so nice. Also Gord said at the concert his new girlfriend is from Iowa
It was truly a memorable night.

On Oct 8th through another online fan group. We were invited down to Tennessee for a reunion of the music group the First Edition which latter became Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. They had the hits "Just Dropped In to see what condition my conditon is in"
"But you know I love you", "Ruby, don't take your love to town", "Something's Burning and several others. They also starred in the 70's tv series "Rollin" which was shot in Toronto. All the surviving members of the group were there except Kenny. It was at Terry Willaims (lead guitarist) home where we had a barbeque and an impromptu concert around a bonfire. Every member of the group was super nice.

I mentioned how I really enjoyed the tv series. I told them how I remembered a Lightfoot medley they did on one show and how I would love to have a copy of it. Terry said that he would get me a copy which I can share with all of you. Terry said the Lightfoot was a favorite of his.
Then I talked to the Drummer Mickey Jones who played for a who's who of music...
Trini Lopez, Johnny Rivers, Bob Dylan (as a member of the Band, on the 1966 World tour).
Then he joined the First Edition, and later became a successful actor.

Mickey agreed to let me take a video of him talking about Gordon Lightfoot

below is the link on youtube...

I hope you enjoy

Kevin

congrats on the wedding and all that's happened since your "Beautiful" day!

Interesting clip -
I don't know about Gord not being on TV back then tho - CBC had him on in the 60's/early 70's- different shows and there was "Lightfoot Forward" - a special they did on him. 1967 was big with EXPO/Canada's Centennial and he was a big part of that..CBC has played a big part in his career right from the early 60's.

The really interesting thing for me in that litle interview video occurred at 0:57 when Mickey revealed that "Gordon lived at 50 Alexander Street" apparently an apartment block:-

Please note that my original screenshot at 718 pixels wide was too large for corfid with its 640 maximum so this marks the very first time I used Microsoft Paint (albeit the new revised Windows 7 version) to resize a picture (to 80% of the original)
Gord must have a predeliction for the number 50. Those readers here with a good memory just might recall that I reported a while ago that he once told me that his London address in the early 60's was 50 Gloucester Road. (correction 2016 it was number 56) a building that I discovered now sports one of the famous London blue plaques

congrats, guys thx for sharing with us

like char says, there was certainly only support from CBC, basically his launching pad...imo, by Canadian TV, Gord is referring to CTV (refers to the scarborough studios, etc) which had some broad audience 'variety' shows back then

john, that building existed back in '65 ...it's the 'Village Green'
