Re: Ktel Gordon Lightfoot Commercial
Yes, I remember. K-tel was notorious for cutting the songs shorter on their albums. I had read years ago that Lightfoot bought as many of them as he could and destroyed them, but I don't know if he did that or not.

" GORDON LIGHTFOOT SINGS EVERY SONG EVER WRITTEN"
which includes Gords only recorded Christmas carol and many other rare gems
Just think all that (379 tracks) for only $4.99!!!

Which is far better "value " than Bullwinkle's $19.99 equivalent from Gord's Moose Music label!!

That IS fantastic. I like the option for "tape or cassette". I guess reel-to-reel was the hi-fi option back then? They always sped up the voice over on those ads, and didn't have the technology to pitch-correct it back down!

Actually both of these most excellent spoofs have been featured here before
Bullwinkle courtesy of Mende Joveski at:-

And Rick Moranis' masterpiece courtesy of Blackberry John at:-

and Gordon Brightfoot ( of muppets fame) is mentioned in several places including the Canadian Sesame Park/Street wiki at:-

That's too bad.
I was think how nice it was that Ktel was releasing this early stuff to those who might have not been familiar with it and it's ashame that they might of done the same to this Lightfoot release.
Guess it was all out of his control.

I thought that was the entirely different album EARLY LIGHTFOOT, not the K-Tel collection.
And I think by "tape or cassette" they meant 8-tracks or cassettes - not reel-to-reel. RTR was pretty much done and gone by the time commecial cassettes came around.

Re: Ktel Gordon Lightfoot Commercial
All fun stuff. Did anyone notice that in one of the K-Tel shots they've gotten the picture backwards and it looks like he's playing the guitar left-handed? I'm sure they spared no expense on the commercial production of the ad. Absolutely anything goes, as long as it doesn't go over the $3.98 budget.
Best to all,
DQ
