it's difficult to waqtch those Rideau Hall 2002 shows again knowing it was only months later that he was so ill...and while he was ill and recuperating the GG would go to the hospital and give him hs award:
Induction ceremonies are generally conducted by the Governor General at Rideau Hall in Ottawa or, on rare occasions when she is in the country, by the Queen herself. The most common reason for the Order not being presented at Rideau Hall is the recipient's inability to come to Ottawa. Two such examples occurred in 1980 with activist athlete Terry Fox and in 2003 with singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, who were both suffering serious medical problems that prohibited travelling. In 2002, shortly before a concert, Lightfoot suffered a serious abdominal haemorrhage that resulted in his being in a coma for a time and months in hospital recovering. On the news of his near-death condition, Lightfoot was promoted to the rank of Companion. Since his condition left him unable to travel, Adrienne Clarkson flew to Toronto and presented him with the insignia in a private ceremony performed in his hospital room.

thanks for putting all the clips up here JJoe..it would take me days to locate the clips on the videos I have and then to record them and get them online...well I'd hazard a guess that it's not gonna get done anytime soon..

Thanks Char I have well over 100 VHS tape of different singer songwriters, poets, movies... aso.

But I have watch the Lightfoot stuff so many many times that I seem to be able to find them fairly fast when I need one to look at.

Too bad for that copyright thing... one has to pulled them off from time to time. I notice that good ole jj does that also w/ his...

It's not for myself because I can watch them really sharp 100% anytime I please.

But it's for those Lightfoot followers that have never seen them...

And it makes me happy to hear from them on the many emails I receive after one is posted. There is no doubt about it Lightfoot is like a magnet (magic) ! Incredible !!

classic clips, jjo...yeah char...this seems to be the last bit of audio or video I know of which has GL still in quite good, post-Shadows era form...jjo, you have saved these vhs for so long, you might invest a very small amount to get the device and sw that would do your archives (especially audio) some justice...regardless, it's all good, man

i cant name em all but neat to see barenaked ladies, richard margison, natalie mcmaster and co up there with GL and the former Gov General

btw, some great old footage of Clarkson here from 45 years ago:

YouTube- CBC Archives: Adrienne Clarkson w/ Leonard Cohen Considers the Poetic Mind, 1966

ok, this is a game i play with the kid....which doesn't belong?:

- Adrienne Clarkson
- Michaelle Jean
- William Shatner
lol

lastly, I notice Leonard Nimoy had an LP out called The Way I Feel, however he doesn't perform that song as part of the collection...I think he could have nailed it with that voice...ok, way off track, back to Rideau

I can't begin to tell you how much I look forward to reading your posts, Jesse Joe! Because I live in the U.S., almost every video you post is completely new to me. My only regret in seeing them is the realization of how much I've missed over the years because like you, I have been a fan forever. Thank you for generously sharing your "treasures".

Thank you so much for posting these! 2002 also brings back memories of a concert in April of that year that I attended with my daughter at the Broadway Theatre in Pitman, NJ, just about 10 minutes from my home. Gordon started out by saying "It's great to be here in Philadelphia (we are about 15 min. away) and someone shouted "You're not in Philadelphia!". Well, after that rude remark I figured he'd not be back here soon, and he hasn't. The theatre at the time was in the beginning stages of repair and now has been beautifully restored to it's "original grandeur" - sure wish he would consider returning! Anyway, who was to know that in a few months time he would take so seriously ill. When Gord sang IYCRMM my daughter commented "He sounds exactly the same as when you used to play his music when I was a kid!". These 2002 clips are really close to my heart. Thanks again! Have a great week everyone!
