must be personal preference, some like that...have had similar discussions with friends re PP&M renditions where lead melody for EMR and 4LM is basically 'washed over'
i find the 4SW harmony to lead mix (ratio) is about 60:40, i prefer it at about 30:70 or even 20:80
if you check out Ian and Sylvia's recordings or reunion performance or even Neil Young (and wife Peggi's) Live8 performance you will hear what I would consider a more palatable mix...sometimes I just like hearing some of these classics with melody alone as it's so refreshing and reminds you what a wonderful tune it really is
just for the record, i do love harmony...but usually not much in verses
isn't the interview section of this clip especially wonderful? i had heard before that Blowin in the Wind inspired 4SW
loved hearing Lovin Sound in the cool old clip you posted, patti!
jessi, if you google or youtube Peter's name you would find clips of him pretty desperate for any sort of work in latter stages of career (which isn't unusual) but the well-to-do family smearing and attempt at 'quieting' of his incest and other allegations against mother were especially unsettling since they were out right out in public (a family member was a journalist...this was before days of internet and tabloids ie. before the times were we became numb to this stuff...i mean, today when we see bizarre tabloid headlines, we hardly blink an eye...we're now part of the octamom generation)
jessi, the EMR clip doesn't show his feet but to see some of Bob's simultaneous bass footwork, click on some of his other clips from that old tv appearance...i don't know how he effortlessly does both at once...it's kinda like chewing gum and walking...i can hardly even chew gum properly (the insides of my flappy cheeks get in the way

)
