Default Where is the Lightfoot 70th b'day celebration DVD show

Just saw Willie's 2003, 70th birthday(seen it before) (Shania..Krall etc)concert with all those wonderful guest stars..
Why can't our Mr Lightfoot also have one....then out to DVD
Why doesn't CBC or someone get this thing going!!??

He is after all Mr Canada. etc etc. Mr Canadian SongWriter of the century.!!

Kris might show up there
Dylan might show up there
Tyson perhaps..
Many, many others for sure..

Is the Tribute CD with Blue Rodeo and all, all we can hope for??

Sorry..just dreaming again

My guess is our unassuming Gord would wonder why anyone other than his kids and grandkids would be interested in his birthday, much less making a DVD for it. He'd probably feel it was too much ME-ness, and that's not the way he is. It'd be nice for some of those folks to get together for a "Friends of Gord" (FOG) concert, maybe donating proceeds to the charity of Gord's choice. But somehow I just don't see it happening. Sigh.

I don't see it happening either..and that is beyond ridiculous..

hell - Ronnie Hawkins had his 60th at Massey with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Levon Helms, Jeff Healey, Gowan and many other folks. It was recorded and televised! BUT Ronnie is a much more "Look at ME" type of personality..

Perhaps Gordon may have a change of heart about being the centre of attention for such an auspicious occasion as his 70th..I know that the CBC Life and Times programme told me several years ago they've tried to get him to agree to do his story but have never been allowed..He's 'elusive' is the term I think they used..

As Pamela Wallin asked him once during an interview: "Why do you keep pushing our buttons?" RJ.

That party of Ronnie's was a hoot. At one point during the gig he made a reference to Gord and wondered where he was. But his Gordship was not to appear in the House of Gord that evening. RJ.

That would be great, and Ronnie Hawkins would most likely be there. It would have to be at Massey Hall, but like most of you said, would Gordon agree to it ???

I know during his appearance on "Front Page Challenge" in 1989, guest panelist the late 'Bruno Gerussi' told him something to the effect of, "You always knew you were gonna do well in this buisness right ?" And Gord replied as only Gordon Lightfoot would say, "I never knew if I was gonna do well or not... Ile let you know sometimes later if I do well or not. "

What a great guy eh !

Maybe if someone wrote to another great singer/songwriter of that era and asked them to head up such a project?

Eithe that or do a "This Is Your Life" kind of thing and really embarrass then man! LOL!

I don't think the offer or idea has been missing, it's the acceptance...besides the humble gene, see same rationale he gives for no duets, control issue + no longer much of a jam guy, eh

Those are my sentiments as well JJ. Just not his type of gig. He's done his share of that stuff when the moment was there and the time was at hand. The parties happened and they were great. The pages have faded. Plus, it's probably a much nicer feeling looking back on it all and being thankful that he's still around and doing just exactly what he wants to do with his life. It's all there in his song "A Painter Passing Through." RJ.

thanks for conveying my mind's inners so much more articulately & poetically, rj

anyhow, I hope it's a wonderful and healthy birthday for when it arrives and apologies if my post was dampering in anyway, I do think it would be great to see a TV telecast of various artists perform a big bag of his tunes one day

he may consider a tribute to his songs rather than to himself...maybe the closest we'll come is Gord agreeing to a revisit to Can Idol, likely only at the bribing of Mer

Yeah, it's a dream, but you must admit that it's a very nice one
