Your very much welcome Gitch... This guy has 214 video clips on YOU TUBE teaching guitar techniques. If you want to check it out, go to You Tube and type in "ChesneyFan" that's him. Type it all in one word the way I did...ChesneyFan.

I think he is just great, here's another one from Cat Stevens, Wild World...

Jesse,

That is pretty exciting for me, as I have just picked up the guitar after about a 25-yr absence. I never had lessons, just knew how to play a few chords in my teens. My 12-yr-old daughter and I have decided to learn together. So...we've got the books and we're working our way through learning how to pluck the notes. The tips of my fingers are tingly but no callouses yet. She has a child's beginner book and I have an adult beginner book. Each evening, we fight over who gets to play the guitar. I told her that we could be the next Judds, to which she replied, "what's a Judd?"

Maybe SOMEDAY I'll even be able to play a Gordon Lightfoot song like that guy on You Tube.

Thanks for listening.

Very good Gitchigumee,

Those 12 year old can be funny at times eh ! {" what's a Judd ?"}

Of course one doesn't expect any 12 year old to know who The Judds were, but still funny...

Those callouses will come fast enough...

All the best to the both of you,

~Jesse~

AWESOME Gitch! That sounds like fun! Ironically, I recently picked up 2 old copies of Mel Bay's guitar instruction books - one children's beginner and one adult's. I'm starting with the children's one .

I'm self-taught and have played off and on since I was a teen (so let's just say...a looooongggg time hehe). I recently had my guitar repaired and the owner gave me a guitar to play while I was waiting. She told me that I was holding my hand wrong while picking, and showed me how it's supposed to be done. I told her that I've been doing it the 'wrong way' for too long and doubt that I could change this. She insisted that I could.

Well, I noticed that Gord positions his hand just like I do (anchoring his pinkie close to the bridge). I don't know if he's always played this way or if he's accomodating because of the problems he had as a result of the transient stroke (s).

Anyway, I've always struggled to play because my hands are small, short fingers too. Gord's hands and fingers are more than twice that of mine.

I have TONS of sheetmusic and songbooks and when you're ready, let me know and I can scan and email some of Gord's if you like. I actually have "For Lovin' Me" in a Peter, Paul and Mary songbook. But I have several of Gord's books and other books containing his songs.

Keep practicing and good luck !!!!

Pam

Pam,

That sounds terrific! I'm plucking notes on all six strings now, and am progressing slowly but surely. It will be really fun to be able to play something other than Can Can or Volga Boatman some day. If you have something pretty simple--I'M READY!

Thanks!

Looks like I' not the only one practicing guitar! I'm only on 4 strings, making some slow progress, but better than when I was a kid. I got my first guitar when I was 11, but just barely learned the 1st 2 strings. I got this new Harmony guitar for Christmas 2006 from my Mama, and then just this past August, got a beginning guitar SUPERBOOK by Will Schmid. I hope to continue learning. It is getting smoother everyonce in a while, which is encouraging.
I gotta check out those videos.

Some people posting on YouTube do not permit their videos to be embedded -ie. only to be watched on YouTube and cannot be posted elsewhere. When trying to do so on these restricted videos the "no longer available" message comes up even though you can still view it on the YT site.
