Gord,

Sorry to hear about your dad. Did they find it while doing some other routine check-up? Sometimes they come across one accidentally and if it's small enough they watch and wait using ultrasound to check it every few weeks or months. If it starts expanding, or if it's already big enough, they'll operate. Aneurysm repair is delicate surgery but can be successful (see our Gord for a worst case scenario with a positive outcome.) Thinking of you....

Sorry to hear that Gord. My grandfather had that surgery and it was a big success. Hang in there and keep us posted.

This is basically how it was found... He's likely gonna be at McMaster and if he has the same surgeon as GL did I'll just flip.... I'm more concerned about dad because he doesn't do what GL had done previously. ie running 16km a week etc. Currently the size of the aneurism is 6 cm wide.... which I have been informed is not good.

Needless to say I won't always be here.

They usually operate if the aneurysm is 5cm or larger - he's very lucky it was found before leakage or rupture. Gord's surgeon was Dr. Michael Marcaccio, but whoever takes care of your dad, I'd say they have a great staff at McMaster, so he'll be in good hands. Whenyou're able to, let us know how things go.

Gord,

They found my grandfather's by accident and it was about ready to burst, believe it or not. He was in his 70's and had emphysema really bad and he was fine after the surgery. My grandfather was not in the greatest of health at the time as he also had congenital heart problems.

Will keep your Dad and family in prayer.
