Mickey Rooney - In Memoriam
Mickey Rooney : 09/23/1920 - 4/06/2014.
What more could I add to a man who has in total (here on IMDb and in his career) 653 credits to his name? As well as many Broadway stage credits I'm sure.
From his start as a child actor in silent films & early talkies,to a
#1 box office draw as a teen song & dance star,alongside Judy Garland.
Through a time of non-acceptance,as an adult when he tried to turn to more mature dramatic roles but...he eventually won out. As well as being a fine comedic actor as well. He shows incredible dramatic flair in "Captain's Corageous","Boys Town" and 1959's "The Last Mile".
Placing aside a bout with alcohol,substances and depression,Mickey Rooney is a great example of the term "driven" and more simply,someone who loved what he did and basically fought to keep himself working in show business.
Unlike some of today's stars/celebrities,Mr. Rooney is someone to admire for all of these things. Whatever troubles he had,he overcame. Not just on his own because I'm sure he had family and friends who stood by him.
The first i kinew of him was as the vice of Santa Claus in the holiday classic," Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town",Disney's "Pete's Dragon" and later "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".
I've seen him in many things since. The last thing I watched with Mickey was my copy of "The Black Stallion". One of his best roles,which i wished I'd seen in the movies in 1979.
So,from "Not to Be Trusted" 1(1926) to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (filming) 2014,Mickey Rooney has pretty much done it all in show business.
If any scene defines thar drive & determination of Mr. Rooney's career,
it's that scene when Andy & the people of Carvel sing and march through the street. They're going to make things work out right in the end.
Rest In Peace,Mickey Rooney,there'l certainly never be another like you.
