ELO cellist dies in freak accident
I know there are some fans here...
ELO cellist dies in freak accident
Falling hay bale crushes former rock group member's van
From BBC News
An early member of 1970s British rock group ELO was killed in a "freak" accident when his van was crushed by a bale of hay, police said.
Cellist Mike Edwards, 62, died instantly in the accident on the A381 in Halwell, Devon, on Friday. Police believe the 600kg bale fell from a tractor on nearby farmland before rolling on to the road.
Mr Edwards was identified using photos and YouTube footage. He was with the Birmingham band from 1972 to 1975. The musician, who lived in Totnes, was a founder member of the classical Devon Baroque
Orchestra.

Re: ELO cellist dies in freak accident
sad, i remember McDowell as the primary cellist but Edwards was a founding member
he is to the left of Jeff Lynne
he is playing in the formal attire here...this was their encore number when i saw them after he'd left the band
i love baroque...in small doses, as is the case with most genres
click on the play button for a sampler...what fun he must have had with these folks

Re: ELO cellist dies in freak accident
I had never realized that he wore formal wear before. I never really cared either as I was too busy enjoying the way that they had managed to blend fantastic rock & roll with classical music. Damn!!! First Grocutt, who passed away last year, and now Edwards. The first that I had heard of what happened was when I was half asleep & starting the morning coffee when the report came over the radio. I thought that I was just hearing things. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself when Lynne passes one day.

Re: ELO cellist dies in freak accident
I read about this on another website. Very bizarre.

Re: ELO cellist dies in freak accident
It was a tough way to go. According to an article that I read about it, he went instantly. Still, it was a hell of a tragedy. The odd part about it all is that the impression I got was that he had no family around that could identify him, which is apparently why they had to rely on old photos as well as footage from YouTube.
