In some prior thread I'd said the first big gig I saw live was ELO but the openers were Meat Loaf

...at first i thought it was a "big" farce filler act, but soon I had my eyes glued to the piano player (ok, as well as the back up vox gal!)

...I later learned he had penned the compositions, he became an influence as all I wanted to do was learn to play that album intro and write some catchy tunes and ballads such as you'll find on the "LP" (Heaven Can Wait, Took the Words Right out of My Mouth, etc)

...I hadn't listened to it for decades until I stumbled on this clip form Classic Albums...I wish there was one of these for Sundown and ODR, etc, etc

the raw segment 25 seconds in is what I really enjoyed as it lead to the Who-ish, F Ab Eb hook, as well as some of the tidbits at the soundboard not to mention the last 10 seconds, pretty hilarious

I've never been a big e-guitar fan but as a teen I remember thinking, this is pretty captivating...thank goodness they kept the acoustic piano up in the mix

I am a really big Jim Steinman fan...as well as a fan of early Meat Loaf (not so much a fan of his later work). Bat Out of Hell is one of my all time favorite albums as well as some other Steinman penned cds (Pandora's Box, Bat II, Faster Than the Speed of Light, Bad for Good). IMO Jim Steinman is a very talented, if underrated, song writer.

I saw Meatloaf at Massey a couple of times and once at Maple Leaf Gardens way back in the day. he'd run off for oxygen in between numbers and karla devito was awesome as backup. http://karladevito.homestead.com/Biography.html - bio and info about steinman and meatloaf. it was an amazing stage show and Steinman wrote some fabulous tunes.

hi guys, yeah...karla played the part on stage but it was ellen foley who had that crisp voice on the LP ...so actually karla was lip synching to ellen's voice on the steamy Paradise video...i assume karla wasn't lip synching for the stage shows

eliz, i dont' know all that material but i will check it out...that guy certainly has the stereotypical hedonist, west coast interview delivery...i like him joking about his whiny tone

meatloaf looks like he's unplugged himself and lost a few kilos...as for the arrangement here, i dont know how the unplugged term qualifies, i think the only thing that doenst plug in here is the piano

this is a nice tight band, Slash on gtr, hot brunette on backups (ok, edit: did not realize that was Patti Russo!...her vox are rich), the guy on keys who looks like Ruth Buzzie is the champ, imo...it's odd that instead of showing at least a bit of him for the cookin F Ab Eb C jam (one could jam all day to that sus chord progression), we are forced to watch the chubby guy, sittin, chompin his gum and roll his eyeballs...agh

i cant believe the quality of sound coming through on youtube when you click HQ mode...all for free...wonder how much i've spent on live VHS concerts, lol

i'm pretty sure meat needs some oxygen and new vocal chords...in the prior clip he was fascinated with himself in hitting the three ending high Cs....this time, it's three high Bs at best

thanks for the tips on other Steinman works...I've clicked around but this one must go down as his most well structured tunes...i was wrong, this isn't pop, this is rock opera stuff...he should probably re-title his Neverland musical
