Twitter (random thought)
I don't understand the usefulness of this technology, but it seems to be gaining in popularity. So, I was thinking.......
If we expose some younger folks to "Summertime Dream", and when it gets to the line "Birds in all creation will be twittering in the trees", we could point out that Lightfoot was ahead of his time.

Re: Twitter (random thought)
That might be ok, but I'm not sure if us older folks should encourage the younger folks to be climbing trees.

that makes two of us...I thought I might investigate after hearing an interview where it was being highly touted (by John Roberts, news guy) but that hasn't happened
I think you're claim would be reinforced, if Gord had titled that spotted briefs/boxers tune as Wild Blackberrys instead

Sadly, wild strawberries don't seem to be as plentiful as they used to be.

Ma'am,
That's not funny.
So anyway.......I found this blurb about Twitter:
What is the Purpose of Twitter?
“With Twitter, you can stay hyper-connected to your friends and always know what they’re doing. Or, you can stop following them at any time. You can even set up quiet times on Twitter so you’re not interrupted. Twitter puts you in control and becomes a modern antidote to information overload,” the Twitter website touts.----
Hyper-connected to my friends ? I think I'll pass.

Re: Twitter (random thought)
I don't have 'hyper' in my vocabulary. For any purpose.
I'll pass too.
I don't even have a cell phone.

When you get a chance visit us here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (aka the DelMarVa Peninsula) there are wild strawberries everywhere. Many are naturalized strains from the many "pick your own" farms that have been seeded by birds and other criiters. And some are just the plain "wild" variety. I even have a patch or two in my yard.

I'm shocked to hear that.
Here's what I envision a twitter exchange would be :
Tweet : "what are you doing"
Reply to Tweet : "tieing my shoes"
Tweet : " r u going somewhere"
Reply to Tweet : "the grocery store"
Tweet : "kewl what are u gonna buy"
Reply to Tweet :"i have a list"
Tweet : "what's on the list"
Reply to Tweet : "food"
Tweet : "kewl"

Re: Twitter (random thought)
you can't spell twitter without 'teit'..
it's a way for followers (those who subscribe to your twitter) to read all about the inanity and insanity of your life in short little bursts of info-only 140 characters. And you can do likewise. it's not really a forum for chat. just info.
The Mayor of Toronto is addicted. good gawd.
Sports stars are twits too:

That's probably closer to the truth.......but you can 'tweet' a message to a specific member in you're "circle of friends". Or, you can twitter to the entire group at once.
Here's a twitter on Lightfoot :

You don't want to encourage them too much. You know how those darn young people are...

Re: Twitter (random thought)
this helped me catch the drift....
i can't even deal with chatting...when i go into the office they expect us to login to MS Messenger ...i tired to participate initially but it's zaney and exhausting, to me anyhow... now i just ask at the end of the day, 'is there anything i was asked to day that someone else didn't already respond to?'
similarily, my new cellphone is decent, it has a battery that doesn't have to be depleted before recharging it (ie. no memory), it has GPS so i can continue to avoid asking for directions and it receives calls or takes messages even in rocky areas (which the last one couldn't)...but it also will ring if someone wants to send you a pic they have just taken and sent via their cellphone cam...it's crazy...today i thought there was something urgent and i answered during a busy session...up came text saying "wadda u think of these shoes?" ...then a pic came up showing the fresh shoe pic...then it rang again and up came "how about this pair?"...then i turned off my cellphone...or i thought i did...but it rang again...then i took out the battery

Tweet : cant find my keys

I cannot believe anyone over the age of 12 would be interested in twittering. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky.

Is this what they meant in the movie Bambi, by "twitterpated"
Funny, I thought they meant something else!
