Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
Down here, we had some freezing rain that had some of the freeways & overpasses sut down. My sister & her husband were stranded for nearly 12 hours before the salt crews were able to help. As for the heat that you're having there, I DEFINATELY don't envy you there. Oddly enough, one of the things that's helping me cope with the crazy weather is when I see a really marvelous sight---wild geese flying over head. MMMMMM! Beautiful!

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
Podunklander and I don't live too far away--it's been a rotten winter. Temps. have been as low as -17 here and every day is well below average. Could we suggest that Obama come up with a stimulus package for the weather?

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
Perhaps it's global warming mende, or climate change as they like to call it nowadays. Or maybe it's what they called it when I was a wee lad, Summer ? Sounds great actually, I hope you're near a swimming pool !

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
I hate heat - much easier to bundle up against the cold. Over the last 24 hours we've gotten about 8-10" of snow but it's been in the 20s, much better than the sub-zero temps we had not long ago. We may even see 30 degrees this weekend. Whoo-hoo!

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
Heat wave I can't hardly imagine it right now...lol. We have lots of snow and wind here. School was closed the last two days so the kids are happy.
Hope you get your air conditioning back as soon as possible, joveski. That is very bad timing for it to go out on you.

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
Mende - remember that Windows weather widget I was telling you about ? I then asked you a few times if the weather for your hometown was accurate?
Now that you have a heatwave; I noticed it in the widget before I saw this thread, and was once again curious if it's accurate this time. Remember it was rather off a bit when we compared notes last in months past ? Well right now, it is saying 90 F for Melbourne at 1:30 am my time, but noticed earlier today it read 109 F !
Yeeow I don't blame you on mourning the A/C breakdown, I hope you can get it fixed soon next week ! As far as the widget, 109 F sounds like about what you said - up to 110 ! Holy cooked cow ! Worse yet - newer black asphalt street paving especially will get over 140-160 degrees at ground temp on a hot day like that, so I hope we don't hear that you got 'stuck' by your melting tennies out on the road ! OOH NOOO I'm MELLLTTIIiing. !
This next ort I mention only cause I thought it was funny - my Dad, right after marrying, drove across Death Valley, Calif, where temperatures like yours and higher are common. His jalopy, their first car, back then A/C was not on the options list lol. So dad figures: buy a block of dry ice ( -250 F), put it on the bench seat up front between them, and blow air over it with a 12V fan ! McGyver'ed A/C ! Just ...don't touch the frozen block ! They made it to Colorado in (relative) coool comfort !
Hope you can cool off soon !

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,,24984215-1702,00.html
all these temps are over 100'F which is unusual/unbearable for this town! (about 120'F today)

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
Joveski, I do hope the dept's AC comes back soon! 120 degrees is totally unimaginable to me; although I grew up in Southern California, it was never that hot (except in Death Valley maybe).
We had a week last summer when the office AC was broken, and the office got to be 87 degrees F (I guess that would be about 30 degrees Celcius?) but your temp would be more than 30 degrees higher.
Anyway, I sincerely hope and pray your AC will be back soon!

Dear Until we finally got it & had it installed, it felt like hell on earth. For me, the worst part about it all was the fact that in order to keep our cats from suffering from the heat at night, we had to let them stay out all night, leaving a large dish of water with ice chunks in it so they wouldn't dehydrate. Now we have an A/C unit that, as it turns out, is strong enough to cool/heat a place that's at least 4-6 times bigger than the home we live in. So I'll be putting in a good word for you with The Man Upstairs.

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
It is hard to ignore what is going on down there when we have family there, Mende. Really makes you wonder what is happening, the climate everywhere is strange. We're too cold, you're too hot and no end in site. Are your winters extreme also?
I agree I would rather have it cold than too hot, there is only so much that you can take off to cool off. Hang in there Mende, drink lots of water. Is the drought over?

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
drought is far from over!. the current death toll is 96. one of our most famous and loved newsreaders died along with his wife in one of the fires. its cooled down a lot but that wont stop the flames, especially with wind changes

Re: Heatwave.. ouch!
What is a newsreader? Is that a reporter on TV?
Take care down there, Mende.
