I saw the van on the news last week and it was so bittersweet for his brother Darryl and those who helped Terry along the way. It's amazing to think that there are Terry Fox runs all over the world every years..so many years after we lost that beautiful boy..
He's a true hero and this world should could use a few more like him..his family have carried on his legacy with grace and courage that most could not..especially being in the public eye as they are..
On June 28 it will be 27 years ago that he died - a month short of turning 23 on July 28..
July 28, 1958 to June 28, 1981.
He was remarkable. His achievement has never been matched.
He was forced to stop the run on September 1, 1980 just north-east of Thunder Bay, Ontario, after 143 days. He had run 5,373 km (3,339 miles, or around 23.3 miles per day - a marathon a day) through Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario. The astounding thing is that he ran on one good leg and one prosthetic..all while his cancer was coming back to kill him..
Bless you Terry Fox..
