Default Great Big Sea

A very good friend of mine in Montreal has sent me a DVD and CD of an outfit called Great Big Sea. What an impressive bunch. Can anybody tell me anything about this outfit. They are GREAT. They remind me of an Irish group The Saw Doctors. Any info will be greatly received.

Jim;
Great Big Sea is a fantastic band out of Saint John’s Newfoundland born out of several other groups, most notably, Figgy Duff. Headed by the irrepressible showman Alan Doyle and original members Sean McCann, Darrell Power and Bob Hallett, Great Big Sea was born from the Maritime music scene of Canada’s East Coast. Celitic flavour yet with their own original energetic sound. In addition to their own compositions they resurrect traditional tunes and sea shanties and give them new life. Slight changes in personnel have only given them greater depth of sound. Well worth checking out!

Yuri, thank you for responding, although I was born and lived in England all my life, my father was a Newfoundlander and my mother was a Scot, and I guess that is why I like Celtic music so much. However GL rules. Thanks again for your response.
