I seem to recall that last year a sentiment was proffered that Lightfoot was doing the touring as a "favor" (my word) to his fans. After reading the interview in which he expresses a bit of loneliness, and also some of the reviews, I ask....do you think Lightfoot needs US just as much as we need HIM ?
I think it's a little bit of both.
You can tell that he still likes to perform live for his fans and that he appreciates the fact that people still come to hear him.
I think there is always an emotional energy that passes between an artist and his audience that is beneficial to all involved.
That's part of the mystery of music and it's ability to cross bounderies that can't be crossed any other way.
