THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Big bass man

Legendary Kiss rocker Gene Simmons poses in front of his axe-shaped bass guitar on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York's Times Square. Simmons was promoting the second season of the A&E reality cable TV series, Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

I most likely wont ever see that show. I and my brothers would rather just rememebr him for his stage presence and how "cool" we thought he was.

No matter how big & bad you are as a rock star when younger...as they age, they will (if they like it or not) mellow out.

The man is 58,so it's no surprise. Here's to ya Gene ....sorry my tounge isn't as long as his!! :D LOL!

By the way,the other KISS members:

Peter Criss is 61 and will be 62 in Dec.
Paul Stanley turned 55 in January
and next month Ace Frehly turns 56.

I, too, have watched the show several times, it's pretty entertaining, although a bit cheesy. I actually think Gene Simmons is cooler now that we can see his human side, how much he loves his kids and mate, Shannon, etc... A funny quote that he said once was something like they've "been happily unmarried for over 20 years" so why change now?

His kids are pretty normal, much more than the parents in my opinion, and surprising coming from a Playboy Playmate and a bonafide Rock God. It's a fun show.

They seem to be pretty good kids..and I laff when Gene says he's been happily un-married to the same woman for 23 years..I'm not gonna get married and I'll never get divorced..seems to work for them..
Last nights episodes were good - they're off for dual facelifts and various sundry body part adjustments!
lol
omigoodness..

Borderstone, tune in and see for yourself. I promise it won't shatter your image and memories of Gene, but instead will only make you like him more.

Gitch,if my brother and I had cable, more than likely he'd be watching it all the time.

I know he's a good guy already.

I'm just glad he's done "over merechandising" KISS. Just 3 to 4 years ago,he practiclly flooded the market with KISS things that only band loyalists would buy.

My brother bought "some" of these items but even he had his limits. :D

Maybe so Charlene but I'd really have to meet the person or people who actually bought "The KISS coffin" !!

I like his show. While I think some of it is a bit scripted, overall he and his family come across as nice, down to earth people.
While I'm not a huge fan of Kiss' music, I gained much admiration of Simmons when he sent a get-well message to an Israeli soldier who was wounded in last year's war in southern Lebanon. Simmons made a video in which he told the soldier what a hero he was and then added in Hebrew.."My name is Chaim, I was born in Haifa" For those that don't know, Simmons was born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel.
Alot of folks when they get famous choose to forget where they come from, but obviously he did not.
In my opinion that makes him one heck of a stand up guy.

I'm going only slightly away from the topic here for something imortant but sad to announce.

Although this person was only a memeber of KISS for one album,I know that Gene,Paul and his later replacement Bruce Kulick had the greatest respect for his talent.
Mark St. John, who's guitar work lit up the KISS LP,"Animalize",passed away last Thursday from a brain hemmorage at age 51.

St. John recorded that album with Kiss, played a few shows but ultimately had to bow out when a severe form of arthritis in his hands caused them to swell and end his guitar playing for some time.

He then became a producer behind the scenes for other music acts. Mark is only the second member of KISS to pass on. Drummer Eric Carr died of cancer nearly 15 & 1/2 years ago in Nov. 1991 in his early 40s.

Gene,Paul Stanley,Ace Frehly,Peter Criss,Bruce Kulick,Vinnie Vincent and Eric Singer are current remaining members.

He looks great - he didn't follow docs orders and ended up taking longer to heal.
It was an oversized tongue because he is known for his tongue..it's part of the persona of his KISS character..
that show really makes me laff..
Altho it was quite moving when the kids first saw their parents at home with their gauze wraps and bruising. They were visibly upset and worried..

I'm sure I'll see a photo of his new look soon,my brother is the biggest of KISS fans in our family.

Especially since,in make-up for halloween,he's a virtual twin for "Gene's Monster". He can also look like Paul in make-up too.
