Perhaps as a Canadian it is unusual for this date and the events that surround it to mean so much to me.

Forty three years ago, at just about 12:30, your president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated.

The events of that day have consumed me for most of my adult years.

Call me an "assassination buff" or one of those "conspiracy nuts", a growing number of your own citizens believe not all is known of that tragic event. It seems to me that day marked the pivotol moment where America lost it's innocence. Suspicion and distrust seems to have grown from the seed planted that horrific day and it's reprocussions continue to be seen in newspapers on a daily basis.

We continue to enjoy our democracies so agree or not, I have my opinions. Anyone interested can check out a small page I have at;

I was in (Catholic) grade school when the announcement came over the p.a. that he had been shot. Classwork stopped and we said a rosary. Then the principal announced he had died, and dismissed us early to go home. I remember as I walked up Seminary Ave on my way to my grandmother's house that grownups were coming out of their houses and standing around crying on the streets. Very unnerving to an 11-year old.

Three years to the day later my youngest sister was born (11/22/66) - happy birthday Nancy, the big 4-0!

I can understand why the event would be so time consuming to study. There is such a plethora of differing viewpoints on the evidence that it becomes a "he said/she said" scenario where one has no choice but to say "Heck, I don't know".

I was in second grade, sitting in a classroom, waiting for the bus to arrive. The bus driver knocked on the window and the teacher opened it. I remember she had a shocked look on her face.

I went home, and told Mom that Kennedy had been assassinated, and she turned on the TV to watch the news footage.

At the time, I didn't have a clue what the word assassinated meant. I thought he'd recieved some type of award or something. It didn't take too long to figure out.

I was home from school, sick. I was watching TV and saw it, I yelled for my mother to come and see. Years later I lived in Arlington and went to the area where it happened and took pictures for my daughter's school project. It was very sobering and after reading many books on it while I was there, looking around it just didn't seem to make sense the way we've been told it happened.

My parents got married Nov. 20th that year and while on their honeymmon 2 days later,this event happened.

They left Florida and took off for Washington D.C. and attended with the many who lined the streets,to view the "passing by" of JFK.

In an odd music releated co-incidence,the male/female duo of Dale & Grace were in Dallas that day. The very same day & week that their song,"I'm Leaving It Up To You" was #1 in America.

In my book of #1 hits Grace talks about how they saw the President's motorcade go by and then three blocks later (unknown to them) the shots rang out.

Except for those that were there,they found out about it like the rest of the country.

Being from Atlantic Canada. But in 1963 I remember that tradgedy. Like Cathy I was only in the second grade. But I recall the stores here in Moncton, had there windows covered with photos of JFK. That's what I remember of it.

Glad you like those Cathy and Bill, yes Dion plays great guitar, and if Lightfoot is our Canadian Treasure, then Dion can certainly be one of your an American Treasures. Always loved that song.
