http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061002/...chool_shooting

This makes the 3rd deadly school shooting in just one week!!!

This kind of thing is getting to be a bit too common. Not good, not good at all.

They never did anything to him. Police speculate he picked that school out of convenience - it was nearby and he knew there was no security (why would there be?) They also feel his decision may have come to a head with the similar killings out west the week before. In part I blame the 24-hour analysis/discuss-it-from-every-angle news coverage that erupts when something like this happens. Cover locally, mention in passing nationally, and move on. It's television that moves this kind of story. No amount of newspaper column space will have the same impact.

The mystery to me is why, if they want to kill themselves, they feel the need to take others with them. Blaze of 'glory'?, lasting infamy (which they'd never get to savor anyway, since they're dead), or striking out at the world maybe? Sort of like a badly behaved two-year old's response to wounded ego - if I feel bad, everybody else has to feel bad too.

And nobody noticed he was buying ammo from different places to avoid raising suspicion. I don't ever expect to see true gun control in this country but for pity's sake at least track ALL sales (including, maybe especially gun show sales) of weapons and ammo. We're more at risk from homegrown nutcases than foreign terrorists.

That's another thing that makes it bad, the wife and kids are being criticized.
