Singer Linda Ronstadt recovers from surgery, cancels tour dates





LOS ANGELES (AP) - Singer Linda Ronstadt has cancelled tour dates for the rest of the year to recover from surgery she had this week, her agent said.

Ronstadt's agent, Shelly Schultz, would not provide details on the surgery the longtime performer underwent Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz., but said it wasn't cancer. "It wasn't an emergency, but it came about rather quickly, so she decided to do it sooner rather than later," Schultz said Thursday. "It's surgery, it's completed, and she's fine." Ronstadt, 60, was scheduled for various performances from September through October, Schultz said.

Ronstadt will recuperate at her home in Tucson for an "undetermined" amount of time, Schultz said. Then she'll travel back to her other home in San Francisco to spend time with her adopted children Carlos, 9, and Mary, 13, said Schultz.

A native of Tucson, Ronstadt is known for hit albums such as Heart Like a Wheel and What's New.

Cathy,Linda turned 60 last month on July 15th (same birthday as my friend Lisa). Hard to believe that isn't it?

My brother just received his 1st copy of the Midnight Special DVD's and there she is in 1975
at age 29 singing,"You're No Good". Sheesh!

Ah, the Midnight Special DVDs! Saw the infomercial (or part of it) the other night. Gord's represented with "Sundown." Amazing variety of songs, music types. MTV ought to take a week and just run those shows in chronological order to give today's kids an idea of what they're missing musically - good for laughs (hair and clothes) too.

I agree Annie! Those were wonderful shows and all performed as live as could be!!

And I agree also, The Jim Croce show, was simply outstanding. Two guitars and two voices. Beautiful music.

Happy to say I have all of Linda's top 40 hits,"Different Drum" (1967/68) to "All My Life" (1990). My brother skips her spot on the DVD though.

One show (or in this case clip) that was not that great was Debbie Harry (Blondie) performing "Heart Of Glass". It may have been live but she couldn't really recapture the essence of the studio version.

Another is The Guess Who & lead singer Burton Cummings doing American Woman. It's thier song but the version on M.Sp. sounds too slow and Burton in that white suit and his style of singing make him come off kind of "smarmy". [img]tongue.gif[/img] Otherwise,DvD 1 is pretty darn good!
