I know this could be argued, especialy for a ( Non GL fan.) How I hate to even have to write that.lol :D

But a joke from Jay Leno, a few years back. He said you know James Taylor. That guy has really been around. He's Seen Fire And He's Seen Rain.'

I know there are a lot of good songwriters out there, Paul Simon, John Mellencamp, Paul Mcartney, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and on and on...

Does anyone know of a Gordon Lightfoot song, that would be equivalent to the James Taylor? one?

Are you asking if one Lightfoot tune could be singled out as his "signature song"? I guess JT will probably be best remembered for Fire and Rain. Although Sundown and The Wreck were GL's biggest hits, I would hope he would be best remembered for IYCRMM. That is an incredibly well written and performed tune and would be my selection for GL's "signature song." Let the debate begin...

IYCRMM, is indeed a good one. Often mention by Gord himself to be one of his favorite.
But no I was asking if you can find a Lightfoot song, that Jay Leno or any other comedian, could make fun of.
Like the James Taylor one Jay made fun of it, saying. (The guy has really been around, He's seen fire and he's seen rain.) :D

I think there was some sort of live Canadian show long ago (maybe an awards show) where the host said something like, "If this show ends up being a disaster, Gordon Lightfoot will write a song about it!"

Probably right David(djb). Lightfoot has been known for writing good topical song. A disater such as the shipwreck of The Fitz. So I can imagine someone saying such a thing. :D

Comics & people in general have made fun of "Wreck" for 30 years now.

I've never heard anyone (besides myself) make jokes about Sundown,Carefree Highway,Rainy Day People,IYCRMM. Certainly none about "The Circle Is Small" or any others.

I think "Wreck" gets it the most because soe feel the topic is such a downer. Despite the fact that it's an actual event.

Of course,most don't know that and think it's just a work of Gordon's mind.
