I’ve wondered, if I join the Army or Marines, if I WANT to be stationed in Iraq, will they station me there at my request? Or do troops get any say-so about where they’re to be startioned when they join? Because if I were to join, and I got stationed somewhere other than Iraq, I would’ve joined for nothing. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

Sure I do. Go down to the USMC recruiter, skip the Army. You might as well join the best from the git go right. Ask your question there and I am sure you'll be satisfied with the answer. You can get certain things up front and you also might qualify for a signing bonus if you want combat arms. Good Luck.

Chris,
Please don't think you would have joined for nothing, if you didn't serve in Iraq.

While, I've never served, I work with people who do, and everyone in the USMC is part of a very vital team. You could serve as an aviation maintainence/ordance man aboard an aircraft carrier, or an LPH. There are many ways a marine can serve and none of them are a waste.

I don't know. I've heard some bad stuff about recruiters; they'll tell you what you want to hear just to get you in, but once you're in, it's nothing like how the recruiter said it would be.

However, Chris, chances are if you put in to be stationed in Iraq, that's where you'll probably end up. And yes, the Army is just quantity, the Marines is quality. Join the Marines if you're serious about joining the force.

(I'd make sure I was in good shape before signing up; boot camp's a real bi+ch, especially if you're out of shape )
