Back In the Teen Scene!

No! This isn't about today's teen boy groups or off key girl singers! A much better thing thatn that.

When you were in High School (or even if you are now) did or do you have a favorite act of that or this time that you didn't want "anyone!" to know that you liked?

Most acts in my HS days were between '82 & '87 (yes 5 years! I graduated.)

While deep down I felt I shouldn't have cared what others thought,I would have suffered a bit more than embarrassment if anybody knew I listened to Culture Club Aka Boy George or Wham! aka George Michael.

It sounds really bad to say but times being what they were,if any guys found out that I listened to music by "guys who might not like girls",I would have been vitually ostracized and thought to be the same way. Back then,to be called "one of those" was the worst thing to be called. I couldn't realy even say I liked certain female singers without that possibility. Joan Jett/Pat Benetar,sure! Cyndi Lauper/Early Madonna? Heck no!

These days it seems young people have a better chance to be more open about what they like and who they are but there's still those who condem them for it. Even for something as trivial as what music they listen to. Who did or do you secretly like that would have "devestated" you if anyone else found or finds out that you like their music? Been me,Aurevoir!

(Oh,and today? I don't give a rat's ***!) Eye? I think that's what those mean!

I don't know if I would have been "devestated" but all my friends were into CSNY, CCR and I still liked Gary Puckett (which I will see for the first time at the Kool concert in Denver i August) and the Union Gap and Three Dog Night (which I saw at a Holiday Inn in Cheyenne Wyoming in 1983).

I most certainly would have been devestated if any of me friends knew I was listening to any of the Reprise Records "Rat Pack" line-up! Which if you are not familiar included Dean Martin,Frank Sinatra & Sammy Davis Jr.
Not to mention I would have been laughed off campus if they knew I liked the folksy-country humor of Roger Miller and his weird little songs like King Of The Road,Dang Me,Englannd Swings and Chug-A-Lug! Need I also explain Bobby Goldsboro? I thought he was cute! Everyone was getting into groups like The Beatles of course, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Doors, Hendrix and others and I liked them too but it seemed a bit dull to do exactly the same thing everyone else was doing. So I found me own little musical passions,Gordon Lightfoot included but some of my closer friends liked him too.
It was and is a relief to leave that silly mentality behind after we grow up! Whatever one likes is up to that person but in younger years we are still finding ourselves and all of our likes and dislikes. Some we will keep forever others will remain back in school days. Sorry Roger Miller & Bobby! This has once again been whirligirl from North Dakota,good day ay?

Mac Davis, Tony Orlando and Charlie Rich. Of all those, only Charlie Rich survived in my music collection. I've actually added a few in the past couple years as more of his early stuff came out on CD.

Don't ask me what I was thinking with the other two. Okay, okay, so they were cute.

Actually, I still have my Mac Davis stuff - his "In The Ghetto" is, to this day, an incredible song.

However, what I never wanted my friends to know at the time is that while I enjoyed Foreigner, Frampton, Journey, Styx, Toto, and the like with them, I was also listening to Barry Manilow at home in my room. I still like some of the songs he recorded

Manilow rules dude!!!!!!!!! Actually Janice,I dig Manilow music too. One song that's a real laugh though is called,"You're Looking Hot Tonight"! A really bad rock song witrh cheesy video to match!! One word:Pyrotechnics! Been me and Barry...stick to the ballads!
