Yes,I know it's still over 2 months until the end of the year but by then we'll all be too busy to reply to messages. In answer to my own question, terrible! I tried to get a new job,got it and ended up working for a man that made Atilla look like a ballet dancer. My best friend got evicted from her apt. and my whole family's finacial outlook took a hit because of the Bush economy! So how about you? Any better or worse? Let me know!

To make matters worse I can't reply in the Main Forum because there's nothing I can reply to that I know about.

Oma! I'm glad to hear that your cancer free! I hate to think of anyone having to suffer with that kind of illness. Not to get overly religous on here but I do thank God for what I do have and of course don't blame him for my troubles. I'm still here and wake up everyday and that makes me grateful. As well as the simple fact that I do still have a job and my family is still near me and that I have at least one good friend here. Anyone else I've known has simply drifted off. Times are tight right now and not really anything to jump up and down about but I know things could be a lot worse. I was kind of venting in my above message, today and tomorrow are and will be new days and with any new day, there's a new chance at life. Like the old saying says,"Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of You Life." That'd make a good song title! Later!

Oma! Yes,my friend is very special. She used to be my girlfriend in the true sense of the word but things kind of changed between us over time and now were just very good friends. I'm thankful I've never had a bad break-up with anyone,in fact,I can't even imagine it. Of course, since sometime in my teens,I've always gotten along better with women (as friends) than with guys. As a kid I had plenty of male friends in California but then we moved here to AZ and all that changed. Oh,well...water under the bridge! Have a good rest of '03 yourself! Bye now!

Now that you mention it, 2003 is getting grimmer by the moment. If the winds shift tonight I may loose my home.

Now what guv'r Arnold?

I feel your pain, Violet. I'm sitting in La Messa completely surrounded by the fire that started in Ramona last night and has now raged through (or I should say is raging through) over 100,000 acres of San Diego County. It has crossed the 52 freeway and as the crow flies, is not all that far from me. It looks like it's snowing outside where I am and there is a layer of ashes on the ground. Had to close the windows because the burning smell and smoke was coming in - there is no sky and hasn't been all day - just a layer of smokey haze.

Be safe Violet!

Thank you. I'm still safe here but the fire is just all over and around. I have bags packed.

Be safe Violet!

Just spent three and a half hours in a VW with a German Shepherd and two cats on the L.A. freeway system. I'm now officially displaced. Staying with friends till the wackos stop lighting fires and I can go home. I miss the mountain.

Violet, I'm so sorry. I lucked out and this evening the fire started heading away from me. Although my good fortune is hurting others in the fire's path :-(

Are you affected by Old Fire or Cedar Fire -

The Old Fire, it is apparently headed up towards Running Springs. It's not looking good for Running Springs, and once it goes through that town Big Bear is next on it's list. They also had fires yesterday in Forest Falls on the back side, arson started, which is what finally brought about the evac.

Don't feel guilty. I'm thrilled for anyone who gets to stay in their home. There is no predicting where it will all end. My life as I've known it may be over. If Big Bear suffers significant damage that will effectively put the insurance agency I work for out of business. No home, no job and two suitcases full of clothes to my name.

CNN showed where the fires reached Big Bear today and the town is evacuated. I hope you are okay.

The news today looks prety hopeless. The news also said there are insurance companies poised to collapse from the huge debt this will extract, I think they said State Farm at one point in the broadcast. Was that yours Violet? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Stay safe.

I work for an agency which writes with a half dozen or so H/O companies and a couple flood and three or four auto as well as Lloyds. We're an in between for consumers. But the majority of our homes are in the Big Bear and Crestline area. Even without Big Bear taking a hit we'll loose significant income from the Crestline losses and could well loose some insurance companies.

I would not be surprised if State Farm is in trouble. They wrote freely in the mountains for years when no one else would. Farmers, while being different from most insurance companies could still be in trouble too for the same reasons. No one anticipated this kind of loss. This is beyond all of the nightmare scenarios that had been tossed around over the last year or so.

I don't know what the future holds anymore.

The smoke from the fires has reached AZ and we are under an air alert of some kind. I'm glad this library is not to far from my home. I was going to stay in and avoid the air but after watching a movie and cleaning up my apt. I ran out of thing to do so I returned the movie here and logged on. I'm deeply concerned that my old neighborhood in La Jolla may suffer from this fire. I still have the pictures from the '70s but I'm praying that area will be spared. Otherwise, what are happy memories will become bittersweet. My prayers go out to all who've suffered from this and they also go for finding the men responsible for this and punishing them to the fullest extent of mortal law.

Not to worry, B, the three fires raging through San Diego County were more inland. With La Jolla being on the coast, it's safe from flames way, although it's been plagued like the rest of us with poor air quality due to smoke.

I don't know all the details about the rest of the fires in California, but the Cedar Fire, the largest of them, is the one that posed danger to me here in San Diego County. A lost hunter who set a signal fire so someone could find him caused it. I guess I'd rather it be unintentional, even if it was stupid, than arson, like they suspect up Violet's way and with some of the other fires in the state. The hunter was cited and might face more severe charges in the future – after all, he's killed 14 people so far and totally demolished thousands of homes with his little signal fire.

Sorry you're getting our smoke - today was the first day that we've had semi-safe air quality and you could actually see the sky instead of the orange smokey haze hanging low.

This is turning out to be a very crappy year for me. And the worst is yet to come, I just know it. I just hope 2004 doesn't start out where this one leaves off. Instead, it should start out on a hole new different level.
