Default Why was 1987 Australian tour cancelled?

In Gordon's speech at the 10Nov2006 Juno Awards (posted recently by Jesse Joe under http://archives.cbc.ca/500f.asp?id=1-68-743-4680 ), he said he was booked to do a concert tour of Australia in 1987. But as shown in www.lightfoot.ca , Australia was not among the places he actually toured in 1987. If it had been advertised here in Australia, I would have been among the first to notice & buy tickets (and he would have performed many songs from "East Of Midnight" which was released the year before & is still my favourite album). Do any of you Corfidians know why the tour was cancelled? He only toured Australia once, in 1974 when I was 12 & too young to attend. (My optometrist recently told me he attended the Melbourne concert & thought Gordon seemed jetlagged.) Anyway, as some of you know, my long wait ends this month when I travel to the USA for the Mar30 concert at Appleton, Wisconsin. Counting down the days!

Hi Dave, I was fortunate enough to see Gordon when he performed at Festival Hall in Melbourne in 1974, he certainly was jet lagged ( I think they had jets then ! ), but the performance was great, he wore the leather jacket he has on on the cover of " Don Quixote ", I wonder how many of those jackets he has ?.

When you look at the program it's no wonder he never returned. ( what a week )

September 18 Melbourne, Australia

19 Sydney, Australia Opera House

21 Hobart, Australia

22 Adelaide, Australia

23 Perth, Australia

24 Perth, Australia

26 Brisbane, Australia

You can only wonder what he felt like when he arrived in Brisbane.

There is a story that once when he was performing in Melbourne Florida that he mentioned that he was horrified when he saw the tour dates that he was booked in Australia, because he hates to fly. ( he was happy when he found out it was Florida )

I hope you have a great time in Wisconsin.

All the best
Ron.

Gordon said on the River Center DVD that Jerry Jeff Walker gave him that jacket.
