Default Mariposa 2023

The Way We Feel – A Lightfoot Celebration

Mariposa welcomes back the heartwarming, live concert celebration of the songs of Gordon Lightfoot, a variety of Canada’s finest contemporary roots/blues/folk/jazz artists together to explore and showcase the songs of one of Canada’s greatest songwriters.

First performed in 2003, this once-annual celebration called Toronto’s Hugh’s Room home every January for 14 years for multi-night sold out shows. The show has also toured Ontario 4 times (in 2005, 2006, 2013 & 2017) playing SRO-concerts in various soft seat theatres across the province.
Over the years the concert has featured more than 100 different Canadian artists, among them multiple Juno, ECMA, WCMA, Maple Blues and CFMA-award winners all bringing their unique musical vision to dozens of classic Lightfoot songs. Gordon Lightfoot himself has even joined in and performed onstage at a number of the concerts!

In 2017 The Way We Feel culminated in a 15th anniversary gala concert at Toronto’s Glenn Gould theatre, and has been on hiatus since, only to be fittingly resurrected at the 2022 Mariposa Folk Festival, in Gordon’s home town of Orillia, ON where Gordon himself watched from side stage. This year we honour him lovingly with a celebration on main stage early Friday evening.

Featured Artists for the show include Matthew Barber, Lori Cullen, DALA, The Good Brothers, Meredith Moon, Kevin Fox, Jory Nash, with an All-Star House Band featuring Burke Carroll, Jason Fowler, Anne Lindsay, David Matheson & David Woodhead with Emcee, David Newland.

I don't think I can make it to this wonderful event even tho I saw almost every show they did at Hugh's Room for 15 years and other various venues.. I went to Orillia with (emcee) David Newland for the May 7 visitation... Jory couldn't make it and Aengus lives in Colorado now.
