Default Son Quixote

With young kids and work, I seldom get to just sit and listen to music if any kind without interruption these days. But I've been able tonight to play Don Quixote on the iPhone. Wow. Takes me back to high school, DQ and Sundown set me on this Lightfoot trip. Molded my musical personality and strongly influenced me in many other ways. Hearing those guys jangle and harmonize through their stories. With headphones on now, I feel it as much as hear vibrate through me.

Don Quixote is full of great songs and very well produced. The only trouble with it is that each time you listen to it you want to hear it over again. Some really wonderful songs. It would be hard to list a favorite song out of Beautiful, Looking at the Rain, Alberta Bound, Ordinary Man, Christian Island, Don Quixote and the all the rest even the cover of Susan's Floor is wonderful.
While I usually think of Gordon songs as being more on the sad and reflective side.
DQ has two of what I think are the happiest Gordon songs Alberta Bound and a song that just can't help but make you smile Brave Mountaineers. The guitar work on all the tracks is exceptional... dare i say it I think it could almost work as an instrumental album also.

Sundown also is wonderful. I love it Sundown, Carefree Highway, Seven Island Suite, but to me the overlooked gem on it is Too Late for Praying '. Too Late for Praying always gets to me. For me it probably ranks as my #2 Gord song right behind IYCRMM

Beautiful, Looking at the Rain, Christian Island, Sundown, On Susan's Floor and Too late for Praying are continually rotated into the cd's played in my car. I listen to those songs daily on my way to and from work and I believe I have for at least 15 years. My kids go bonkers trying to figure out how I never get sick of listening to them, but what you said is true. the trouble with this album is that each time you listen, you want to listen again. I am glad to know that someone else feels the same as I do about that album!

Beautiful has two strong memories for my wife and I. We used it at our wedding in Sept of 2011 and three weeks later Gordon dedicated it to us at a concert in Iowa.

It was the first album I had that I would put on headphones, play it through, flip it, play through, flip it, play through, on and on and on for hours absorbing each tone and nuance. Feeling it more than hearing it.

My kids wonder the same thing, Lisa. My son Matt has a quirk where he can't listen to the same song twice on a trip, and he attributes that to having to listen to my songs repetitively while he was growing up. I am guilty as charged...

Don Quixote is a great album, and the title song is my all-time favorite Lightfoot tune, because to me it is the quintessential Lightfoot song.

Also, the cover photo isn't bad either

if you took the 4 LPs gord put out from 71 to 74, i consider 39 of the 42 songs, all wonderful writing, playing, arranging and producing...oh, singing too

not too wild about My Pony Wont Go, Redwood Hill and Is There Anyone Home

yeah, there is simply no filler tracks.... as is the case with most of GL stuff

All are great albums...
From Old Dan's Records my favorite is Mother of a Miner's Child
Summerside of Life Miquel
Don Quixote - Favorite changes everytime I listen --Beautiful used in Wedding
Sundown Too Late for Prayin'

I've never was real crazy about Old Dan's records. Yet Gord has used it as an encore for years. I was very happy when he closed the concert I saw last year with Cold on the Shoulder. Which I feel showcases the band better.
