I tried to give it a listen, but with a dial-up connection it was much too choppy to be tolerable.

Does CBC ever make these types of programs available for download ?

Unfortunately not. I tried, but the best I get is a 'save link as' option.

Thanks for the idea.

How long are these available for listening ? Another option is to cajole an acquaintance with high speed access to let me pirate their computer for a couple of hours.

Got to listen to it........fun !

Lightfoot's sense of humor is in great form.

Catherine MacLellan was a pleasure to listen to.

Gord Downie's music........not my cup o' tea.

Lightfoot seems to vacillate between TWOTEF and IYCRMM whenever the "what song are you most proud of" question pops up. I think he should respond with "I have two that I'm equally proud of."

He's also mentioned Beautiful as a fave..and The Trilogy...

Yeah - Downie/The Hip - never quite got them or him. definitely not my cuppa.
I loved him because he knew he was in the company of true genius and bowed to the master..lol
and then coveted his shoes..
lol

with all respect to GL, Downie had me most captivated that eve...too bad the audio cannot translate GDs mannerisms (and GLs too, of course) and facial expressions....much of the hour that was edited out of this broadcast had so many classic Downie insights...everything he says makes me grin (check out the QTV interview)

Downie (Cockburn, Keelor, etc) are the type who are genuinely driven by the need to write everyday, forevermore....GL seems to always look back and speak of the writing as a fulfilling of contractual obligations, you could look it up...Gord never introduced RDP, Shadows or IYCRMM with any sort of songwriting insight, that was the only let down of the eve...with all that said, it was the most wonderful live GL experience I have had...I hung on every word

seeing the Hip live in on my bucket list but I believe I fear I would not have the energy required to absorb the energy that GD and the boys put out

I dont mind at all that the guys (nor Blue Rodeo) never made it in the USA

their Up To Here cd was a energy charged creation that me playing along (adding sloppy gtr rhythm or slaphappy piano shots) at full Vs, decades ago

glad they included all of CMs tracks...what an interesting trio they made for

Downie did have some cool insights into his songwriting and had several quotes to throw in the mix as well. I certainly enjoyed his speaking, joking and mannerisms more than his singing.
I do wish Lightfoot had been as insightful about his songwriting etc.
I think he may give the answer of 'fulfilling contractual obligations' to avoid speaking of personal emotions and events that led to a songs creation. The one moment when he was speaking of Brita he did start going down what seemed to be a wistful memory path but pulled himself out of it. His voice had a melancholy tone and then trailed off mid-sentence.

Blue Rodeo is heading to California...

great feedback char...yeah. i dont even perceive GD as a vocalist but rather a ranter-poet-preacher, lol...and he aint a guitarist any more than i am, correction: actually he is more than i am...he has the hammer on more strings than the ones he plays...I can name 10 other tunes I would pick over Bobcaygeon as a top Hip tune...the direction (which i am sure Gord has much to do with) of their videos is wonderful

this long but intriguing interview truly shows the love that exists in this band, what every band should be, real brothers

note: 50 Mission Cap (Barilko) really should have been the new HNIC theme but it is too pro Leaf i suppose....our Leafs need to find another body sometime soon

good luck to BR...the folks that love them down there, really DO love them

The guy w/ long hair in "The Hips" is Gord Sinclair right ? Anyone knows if this could be the son of the late Gordon Sinclair from 'Front Page Challenge' ?

OK thanks very much jj, I knew there was a Gord Sinclair in that band... just similar name I guess to the journalist that wasn't afraid of speaking his mind on FPC. I really did like him a lot. Those guys were great to watch & informative.

This is fabulous -only had a chance to listen 3/4 of it and saving the rest for when I have more time. Wish I could have gone, but I got all my paperwork done and a bag packed for the weekend while listening to it now, love it.

Watched all of this again tonight. Very long, but incredible. Two great Canadian music legends who share the same first name.
