Wes has recently brought my attention to the song Tattoo on the album Salute.

Is Gordon Lightfoot talking from personal experience here?
Is he the kind of guy to get a tattoo?

I recall reading somewhere -- in an article or on the internet -- that he did have a tatoo (ouch) and that he has since had it removed (ouch again). I even think it was a rose tatoo. I hope I have this right. I always thought that song had to be written by someone who'd been through the process -- it's so graphic and visual. I mentioned in another post to Wes that my favorite line is about the "water still flowing through the rose on my skin..." and "the boys in the parlor didn't waste any time puttin' it down."

Hi chris,

That's the only other reference I found on that topic.
This quote is from All I'm After on Shadows.

I'm happy you figured out the profile signature .

Gord does have a small tatoo on his left forearm. I'm not sure what it is of, but I know it's not a rose. Just a little FYI.

LAMS-
I guess I had it half right -- sort of. Wonder where I read the part about him getting it removed. Well, lately, remembering 50% of what I read is pretty good.
Thanks

Chris,

I don't think your memory is going. You may very well have read that somewhere. Someone may have written it because they didn't see the tattoo. It's pretty small and it isn't very obvious and just the way he has to hold his arm playing guitar, or if he wears long sleeves, you wouldn't see it.

Maybe someone didn't see it and figured he had it removed.

Fear not ... your memory is still intact!!

It was a beautiful red rose in full bloom on
the inside of his right forearm, the last time I saw it and that was long ago.
