Default Mahnomen- June 19-2015

Hey- I worked 12 hours days this week, so I could take Friday off!

Yes, I am going to make a quick drive up to Mahnomen to see Gord Friday night. Friday night I will be in "Select Seating" Row 18, Seat 35. About dead center of the floor plan.

Will be coming back home Saturday morning and should have time to post the set list before......

I take my wife to downtown Minneapolis to the State Theatre on Saturday night. We will be in the 2nd row of the balcony- front and center! Stop by and say hello if you are able.

Hello everyone. Drove back from Mahnomen this morning after a few hours of shut eye.

The Shooting Star Casino Event Center was pretty full. A rowdy Friday casino crowd, arriving late, holding drinks in both hands, not knowing where to sit, etc. you get the picture.

Gord came out in his red vested shirt and black jeans. 8:02- the show goes on.

Here is the set list:

1) Sweet Guinevere
2) Now and Then
3) Sea of Tranquliity
4) Never Too Close
5) 14 Karat Gold
6) Minstrel of the Dawn
7) Spanish Moss
8) Rainy Day People
9) Shadows
10) Beautiful
11) Let It Ride
12) The Watchman's Gone
13) The Wreck of E.F.
14) Ribbon of Darkness
15) Sundown
16) Carefree Highway
17) All the Lovely Ladies
18) I'd Rather Press On
19) A Painter Passing Through
20) If You Could Read My Mind
21) Restless
22) Baby Step Back
23) Early Morning Rain
Encore:
24) Waiting for You

Give Gord an "A" for effort. I don't know how many 76-year people could perform 90 minutes straight. A couple of times he sat down briefly on the bench where he leans his guitars. Put his head down to clear the sinuses.

He kept the songs coming, the longest chat time he did was before the "Fitzgerald" explaining the Chippewa legend, about "not giving up her dead." He explained that the lake is so deep and cold, that the bodies will not surface. He spoke of the science behind it that the bacteria that would otherwise cause the bodies to surface can not live in deep cold water. He also acknowledged that the Indian Reservation where the casino is located is from the "Ojibewe" and not the Chippewa.

For Early Morning Rain: He told the Elvis story about being in the Buffalo, NY hockey arena to meet Elvis but he "had left the building" by the time he got backstage.

For Baby Step Back: The song title is "Meet Me by the Rockpile and I will get a little bolder there."

"I'd Rather Press On". He struggled with the song, finally yelling to the sound guy or Micheal to change something. Rather odd, but it got a very loud applause, a little surprising as it is not a well-known song.

When he introduced the band after Rainy Day People, he said something about Rick. That the casino staff wanted to know Rick's stage name? Gord said something like Rick's stage name is "Duke ??" I couldn't hear the end of what Gordon said. Does anyone know about Rick Haynes' stage name?

OK- My wife and I are going out to dinner and then we will be at the State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. Might get the "Trilogy" tonight! I will post a set list on Sunday unless someone else does first.

Wel now then John I suspect you have your reasoning back to front because I do believe that Rick's stage name IS Rick Haynes and his real (Polish) surname is Dutkiewicz see
https://www.facebook.com/rick.haynes.9889
hence Gord saying "duke"!!
In fact on
http://citizenfreak.com/titles/28638...ear-from-today
Rick (Dutt that was) explains how and why he adopted his stage name
I think it was Jenney of this parish who presented a splendid theory for why he chose "Haynes" that I greatly enjoyed at the time and bears repeating
which she posted on corfid but I cannot find it now. This went along the lines that whilst trying to decide he looked out of the cafe window and saw a men's underwear delivery truck,
Luckily it was not for "Fruit of the Loom"!!
