Default PRESS RELEASE-LIVE @ Massey CD & Canadian concert dates

At last - long awaited news!

Warner Brothers will be releasing a compilation CD of LIVE recorded concert songs @ Massey Hall over the years. (not sure how far back they will go but there will be older recordings on the CD)
This release is planned for April 2012.

As usual Lightfoot does not wish to have his music sold at the venues where and when he performs. Instead, there is a possibility of a combo package (CD & ticket) being offered to coincide with ticket sales to upcoming concerts including Massey Hall in November.

More info to come..

This is wonderful news!

It would be great if the CD included GL's renditions of Farewell to Nova Scotia and Nighttime. After a concert at Massey Hall several years ago, I briefly asked GL whether he planned to include those songs on a CD. From GL's reply (which was very polite), it seemed unlikely that they would be included.

as fas as the Massey/May 2011 HD video goes...don't expect to see that any time soon...
When I asked Gordon about it in Alberta he said "that's mine!"...
I'm thinking he paid the bill and will do with it what he pleases, if anything at all...If RHINO or WB paid for it I can't imagine he'd have much say.. ?

I'll be at a conference on Las Vegas on that date. That has no relation to the thread, just bragging....sorry! But seems I've often missed his Vegas dates at the conference by a week!

So, guess I'll be downloading it through iTunes...hope it has an electronic booklet with text and pics. Gone from a 45 of IYCRMM, to LPs of stuff through East of Midnight, which I got on cassette...Waiting for You too, but lost it, need it. Then CDs...now the Internet.

Gordon is such a stickler and a bit old fashioned, but man, he could put out product simply and directly through iTunes on his own!

i hear rumblings that it only goes back a dozen years (ie. 2000)

can anyone confirm or is there any additional info yet?

i'd love to hear some clean Massey recordings without keyboards or steel

Gord might as well mellow out and start selling Lightfoot goodies at his concerts... he cold even sellout a few tunes to corporate advertisers and I don't think his faithful following would hold it against them, especially when they know its helping to raise his scattering of children and grandkids or to put them through school

furthermore, if all they could manage to wheel out for this year's Superbowl halftime is Madonna...then i say book Lightfoot for 2013!

I don't know how bad Madonna was at the Super Bowl, but she couldn't have been half as bad as Meat Loaf was at the Australian Football League Grand Final last October!

i agree completely. not at all a fan of madonna, or the crowd she had with her. none of us could even figure out what she was "singing." At least with Gordon we would get to hear music that is actually sung well.

oh, and P.S....... madonna is only a few months older than I, so I might have to take umbrage at the "wheeling out" part of that post! hahaha!

Tracks such as For Lovin' Me, Early Mornin' Rain, Steel Rail Blues and Ribbon of Darkness brought him international recognition as a songwriter. Cover versions of his songs were recorded by artists such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, until 1971 when his own version of If You Could Read My Mind became a Top Ten hit. In 1974, his classic single, Sundown, went to No.1 on the American charts, followed two years later by The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, inspired by a Newsweek magazine article; it reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard charts. By the 1990s he was mostly touring, giving just fifty concerts a year by 1998, mainly in North America, while he released two albums in the period. In 2004, he released his 20th album Harmony, and appeared as a featured guest on Canadian Idol.

So I wonder what the cover photo will be? And will there be an electronic booklet on iTunes? Album art is such a major art form and becomes iconic of the artist and era.

A nice shot of Massey Hall could be a possibility...it's as iconic as Lightfoot is.

Wonderful news that the "Massey Memories" CD will be out on April 17. I was reviewing the set lists from May 1998 through May 2001. Quite a few songs haven't been played much since those days. There are some really good "rarities", including:

* That Same Old Obsession
* Nighttime
* Drifters
* On Susan's Floor
* Cherokee Bend
* Sit Down Young Stranger
* Cold on the Shoulder
* Forgive Me Lord
* Heaven Don't Deserve Me
* I'd Do Anything
* Uncle Toad Said
* Ring Them Bells
* Ode to Big Blue
* Ghosts of Cape Horn
* Minstrel of the Dawn

My personal vote would be for: "I'd Do Anything" (tribute to Terry's guitar work on this one) and "Sit Down Young Stranger" (not done very often) and "That Same Old Obsession" (because this is the only one of this group I have never heard live.)

Great treat for Gord's fans. I have many great memories of my trip to Massey in May 2001 for those three straight nights and meeting many of you. John

Personally,I can't wait to see this.Especially since Massey Hall has
always been out of my reach.Now I can hear what I've been missing out on all these years.Wish I could attend a Massey,but this will do just fine.
