So how about bringing in the ladies.
Who is your favourite female singer/songwriter?
For me - Emmylou Harris.

Nanci Griffith--like nearly every song and would love to here her in a duet with Gord (she's also a great admirer). Her duet with John Prine, "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" always makes me think she'd be great with Gord.

I have two favorites that fall into this category. They are Carol King and Rosanne Cash.

SilverHeels, does Emmylou get to England more frequently than Gord does? Have you seen her before? She would be my #2 favorite female singer although I've never seen her in concert. I like her duets cd and think she'd be another good one to record a duet with Gord. Maybe he could do a duet cd with all of the favorite female singers we've listed here. How do you feel about that ladies--could you handle that??

Anyway SilverHeels, I'm glad you'll have a chance to see her and please give us a full report here under this topic next week.

Yes, Emmylou comes here quite regularly
and yes, I've seen her a few times. She
is brilliant! I'll gladly report back
after the show. And I would just LOVE
to hear her duet with Gord. (If I cant
sing with him (please NO, they cry!) than who better than Emmylou! Brill idea!
I think I could handle a duets album ...
how about it ladies?

SilverHeels,

My favorite female artists are Linda Ronstadt and EmmyLou Harris. They have a terrific duets ablum and together with Dolly parton they are smashing! Yes, I think Gord and EmmyLou would make beautiful music together . . . sigh!

I agree, MaryAnn - let's write to Barry
Harvey and suggest it. You wanna do it.
(btw, you did mean 'beautiful music' as
on disc - I HOPE? LOL)

John Prine did a recent album of duets with female singer/songwriters. It's excellent and also includes Iris Dement and is great with Bonnie Rait also. His album is a real tribute to female singers.

But I think Gord could do one just as well and we have mentioned many different singers here as possibilities. I'll bet Nanci Griffith would jump at the chance. So would I if I could carry a tune, any tune.
Maybe there's time to enroll in voice lessons.

I liked Linda Ronstadt in the 7o's (LIVING IN THE U.S.A.), Crystal Gayle in the early 8o's (THESE DAYS), Belinda Carlisle in the late 8o's (HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH), Amy Grant in the 9o's (HEART IN MOTION), and Vitamin C in the 2ooo's (MORE).

Linda Ronstadt is great too. Jackie de Shannon? Wow, that's tripping back a while,
Tom! Is she still around? (forgive me no
offence intended but have not heard of her
in years)

The late Kate Wolf would have to rate as my top singer-songwriter. She appeared on "Austin City Limits" in the mid-80's and her recognition factor was really starting to climb. Unfortunately she died of leukemia in December of 1986. She was only 44.

Mary McCaslin would be next.
Nanci Griffith too.
