Gord in Vegas

The show in Vegas tonight was great. Casino shows are short, unfortunately, so we didn't get the full performance, as in, 2 full hours plus an intermission. But Gord was in good spirits, in good voice and the sound was really good - the mix was perfect. Gord wasn't too chatty tonight, but I'm sure that was because he was trying to get as many songs in as possible. The crowd was receptive but rather subdued, which was surprising for Vegas. I hadn't seen Gord and the guys since March, in Texas, so it was great to put an end to that long, dry spell.

Tomorrow night we'll see him in Laughlin. The best part about tonight was that we get to do it again tomorrow night!

Those are my favorite concerts, when you're sitting there knowing you already have tickets for your next one!

Years ago I saw him in Atlantic City and it wasn't the tightly timed normal casino short show. I was very grateful for that.

Laughlin was even better! The Laughlin venue was great - an outdoor amphitheater right on the river on a very pleasant October Nevada evening. Gord was VERY chatty last night, told all the usual jokes (the rabbit's back, the pale moon, bolder by the rocks), besides giving fairly lengthy intros to The Wreck and The Trilogy, as well as many other comments. He sang the full version of "Did She Mention My Name" which, he said later, is the one he's currently switching off with "Cotton Jenny." My personal opinion? Keep DSMMN in as much as possible! He did it perfectly. The sound was really good and the crowd was really into it. There were 3300 seats and, though it wasn't completely full, it was very close to it.

I was thrilled for the first encore to be "If Children Had Wings," which has always been one of my favorites. He did it flawlessly. Then, "Blackberry Wine" was the second encore. Always a crowd favorite.

The guys were all having fun and played perfectly. Oh, and I'm proud to say that my little group was pleased to sing "...........over me......" at the "Ribbon of Darkness" pause just before "Sundown" - which is always fun to do!

Two great nights in Nevada. A wonderful way to spend a weekend!

. Great weather in NV this time of year too! Perfect for being out on the bikes and if I had made it to Vegas...I would have stopped in at the pawn shop and traded some x-tra GL memorabilia for a ride on Chumlee's Harley.

Well, while I agree with everything that Melissa said about the quality of Gordon and the band's performance, in Laughlin, and it is true, Gordon was particularly talkative and lighthearted and the sound was surprisingly good, there was a disturbing aspect to the evening. Maybe it wasn't noticed by the people sitting down front. The setup of the amphitheater was 5 sections in front of the stage, a middle horizontal aisle, then metal bleachers in the back of the venue. Gordon came on promptly at 8 but there were still 15 minutes of ticketholders filing in across that middle aisle. trying to find their seats in the dark. I was in the first row of bleachers so it was very distracting, noisy, obstructed viewing as far as seeing the stage or hearing the concert. But that part was temporary and by 8:15 everyone was seated. At 8:20 I saw about 10 people get up and leave. There was only one entrance/exit and they had to walk past my seat to get out. By 8:30 I counted 70 people who got up and left. By 9 pm it was a steady parade of people coming down from the bleachers, and elsewhere, grabbing onto strangers for support, seeing old friends and starting conversations on their way out while Gordon was singing. Some serious listeners started telling the disruptive talkers to take their conversations outside. Hundreds of people left during the concert and eventually the band and Gordon himself couldn't help but notice. I know drinking was one factor, perhaps the metal bleachers with no back support was another, also some people had won their tickets via radio promotion and the casino was offering 2 for 1 tickets for the side bleachers so maybe some of the concertgoers weren't that invested in attending in the first place. I would estimate 400 over the course of the concert. A total departure from anything I have ever witnessed for any performer at any venue. I still don't understand exactly what was happening except to say that, even despite the large numbers, it seemed to be more a Laughlin crowd thing than a reflection on the concert thing. Gordon made no mention of it from the stage and he and the band handled it just right by moving forward, giving an excellent performance and an extra encore. There is no substitute for experience and professionalism. And courtesy.

Venue staff should have held late-comers back until there was a break between songs so they wouldn't disrupt those who were courteous enought to actually get into their seats on time. As far as people leaving I imagine it could be as you say - ticket winners, drinking, backless seating...and general rudeness.

Happy to hear that he did an extra encore for those who really wanted to be there. Way to go Gord!

Sorry to know that happened sunshine -how annoying! That was a heck of a lot of people moving around in there in the middle of that concert.

I still wish I could have made it and know my friend in Nevada would have loved it

. Funny coincidence that she was thinking of me too last week while I was doing my wishful thinking to head out there...I was quite a bit surprised to get a letter from her today -she hasn't written in 2-3 years.
