I just got my "Lightfoot/The Way I Feel" on Monday and have listened to it constantly. I was really happy that Canadian Railroad Trilogy was on it, and I had wondered what all the "hoopla" was regarding this song, and when I heard this song I immediately knew why. This song is priceless beyond description. It seems absolutely perfect. Starting with a medium tempo, then getting very fast, then slow, than very fast again, and then back to the original tempo; wow...this seems to me like either one of his top 5 to 10 songs. It would definitely be in my list! If I had to tell someone what song makes Gordon Lightfoot THE Canadian folk icon, this might be just it, in spite of the fact that it would still face strong competition with another great songs he's written.

Dear Shazia,
have you heard the "Trilogy" version that Gord re-recorded for the Gord's gold compilation of 1975?
For me, that's the definitive version, even better than the first one, with a slower part in the middle and the strings behind his voice.
What a beautiful song......

Reading aboot your discovery of CRT made me realise that after your earlier enquiry on what CDs to but next we gave you sadly incomplete advice because I do not recall that anybody advised you to also acquire the fantastic Reno 2000 videod concert which of course includes

Wow...John Fowles you did amazing work again! Thank you very much!
I knew that there was a live version of CRT on the Sunday Concert which I am going to hopefully get soon. But I didn't know that Gord's Gold had yet another version. I'd be elated to either both of them eventually.

In 1975 Gord pull out an anthology of his hits, called "Gord's gold".
Tha compilation include some of his best songs from warner albums, such as "If you could read my mind", "Minstrel of the dawn", "Don Quixote", "Sundown"...etc.etc...and 9 old tracks from his first four albums re-recorded for that occasion.
So, if you'll get this great compilation, you'll find the great hits of the 70's (until 1975) and the best songs from the 60's in newly versions that, in my opinion, sounds better than the original.
You'll hear beautiful new rendition of "Softly", "Bitter Green" and, most of all, "Trilogy".
In the cd version "Affair on 8th Avenue" was pull out from the origina LP tracklist, to put all the songs in only one cd.
For me, it's been a bad thing, cause "Affair" is my favourite Gord's song.....!!!!!!
