I still miss a word or two on these lyrics. Maybe anyone can help me fill the gaps?

Here is what i have so far:
--------------------------

I saw a moonlit scene I never will forget
I stole a kiss at daybreak
I never did regret it
Sometimes I wonder why I even try
So why should I feel blue?

I heard the sound of footsteps swaying in the dark
I poked my head out silent that's how it started
What to my eyes appeared as dust became a vision I don't know

What had finally found me with my back against the wall
Was destiny intruding all around me

and as the day ..................................

another lonely night could never be

If there's is a reason you might try and forget
I'd like to find it cause I like to relive it

Sometimes I wonder why I ever cry
So why should I feel blue?

I was cought drifting disappearing from the land

whitecaps and perfusion all around me
but somehow in our eyes I found the strength to sail upon the raging sea

If there's a reason for the way that life is
I'd like to find it after all who's life is it

Sometimes I wonder why I even try
So why should I feel blue?

What had finally found me with my back against the wall
Was destiny intruding all around me
and as the days went on till noon ....................................
Another lonely night with you could never be

I saw a moonlit scene I know it was real
all that you can ever do when love is ..................??????

Sometimes I every try why I even try
So why should I feel blue?

Sometimes I wonder why I ever cry
So why should I feel blue?

Thank you.

The words you are missing, I think, are:

... And as the day WORE ON, I KNEW
another lonely night could never be...

...whitecaps IN PROFUSION all around me.

... And as the day WORE ON I KNEW
another lonely night with you WOULD never be ...

...All that you can ever do with love is REVEAL IT ...

Hope this helps, Florian. (I talked to you once before and promised you questions for your quiz. They are coming. I changed my user name, so you may not recognize me, but you e-mailed me at Merlyn @....) Love your web site.

Thank you, Leslie.

You have been very helpful. Sometimes it's very hard if one is not a native English speaker to understand all words.

Although I must admit that compared to many other artists Gordon Lightfoot pronounces the lyrics in an exceptional clear way.

Glad to be of service. I remember spending hours trying to get down all the words to "Seven Island Suite." Even Gord himself can't remember the words. Once in concert, he asked the audience if they would like to hear it and after the cheering died down, he got ready to play and looked up and said, "And I will be making up the words as I go ..."

He rarely uses couplets, or if he does, he changes them each time. So there's not a lot of repetition.

So ... can I be a REAL member now? HAHAHA!! Just kidding.

Hi LAMS,

You have 6 more postings to go, then you'll be a 'Member'.

Explanation of "Junior Member" vs "Member"

If you check out the Wayne Francis website on Gordon Lightfoot you can find just about all the lyrics to Gordon's songs. I believe even some of the unreleased from Songbook are there. I can't recall offhand what the web address is but I would imagine Florian has it, if not I can look it up and post it. That is where I go when there are words or phrases I can't figure out. They are few and far between, but the lyrics are so important that you really want to get them all.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your info.
You can find a link to all Gordon Lightfoot pages with short description here: Gordon Lightfoot Links.

Wayne Francis' website is in fact listed first, because it is a really good website with a lot of information.

Unfortunately, the lyrics for some of the rarities on the songbook are not even available on Wayne Francis' website - that's the reason I had to figure them out myself.

I am done with all rarities, you can find the lyrics on my Songbook page.

The only ones I have to figure out yet are "Betty Called Me In" and "Lifeline".

If anyone happens to have them I would be grateful if you can e-mail them to me or post them to this discussion board.

Florian:
Here's the words for "Betty Called Me In": I hope I'm right. If anyone hears them differently, please post.

Betty Jo, you made it plain
When first you held me near.
Even though you caused me pain,
You were all the world to me.

We made love; we had so much fun.
Many fine times went by us.
Now it's all so hazy
And a little bit crazy.

Betty Jo, my heart's on fire;
I don't need this crying.
The next time you see me,
The back seat of a taxi's where I'll be.

Betty called me in to say goodnight,
Much to my relief and pure delight.
I think that was my big love scene;
I do believe her engine run all right.

Betty said: get ready, the time has come.
I was young and the good life had begun.
And with the dawn the child in me was gone,
But it made a man out of me that night.

Betty made my clothes and sewed my jeans.
Listened to my songs and foolish schemes.
I think the way she got to me
Was aimed like a laser beam right to the soul

Betty, my true love, do what you do tonight.
Where she goes, I hope she knows she's right.
The worst demand and the best of times --
She was never the kind to kick and bitch and
fight.

Betty called me in to say goodnight,
Much to my relief and pure delight.
And with the dawn the child in me was gone,
But it made a man out of me that night.

I think it was my big love scene.
I do believe her engine run all right.

(Kind of brings Cathy Smith to mind, doesn't it? She was the one who embroidered his clothes and sewed all the studs and sequins on his denim shirts and bell-bottoms in those days. And the song was recorded in 1976 which would have been around the right time. Of course, the "kicking and bitching and fighting" line may be a little off. She was a bit of a "wildcat" as I understand. Anyway ... it's something to think about ...)

No Borderstone - Cathy Smith was an old girlfriend of Gord's she is also the one that was found to be involved in the John Belushi death, last I heard she was married and living quietly back in Canada.
Legend has it --- that Sundown was written with her in mind.
Our Cathy is Cathy Cowette it says that in her signature.

Here's the lyrics. I also have the chords and playing instructions. If anyone wants them, PM me your E Mail and I will send it in .rtf format.

LIFELINE

I was in some timeless place
Timeless face; my embrace
Held empty air and empty space,
All on sunny day.

She lived by the bounding main.
To Baltimore I took a plane
An East Coast lady lit my flame
All on a sunny day.

I was in some dreamless sleep
Where angels watch as lovers leap
Some of them landed on their feet,
Living the lifeline straight.

She was like the breath of spring
When flowers grow and robins sing
Keeping me from the pouring rain
All on a summer's day.

There's a lifeline that I know
And it holds me back and lets me go.
Whatever I do, I don't live my lifeline straight.

So it goes as lifetimes pass,
From heart to mind and back again.
My restlessness becomes a flame,
Letting my lifeline show.

She stood by the boundless tide,
Afraid to ride, afraid to hide,
Letting her conscience be her guide,
Needing a lifeline so.

I was in some aimless state
Where lovers meet while angels wait.
With gifts of time, they hesitate
All on a sunny day.

She lived by the bounding main.
From Baltimore, I took a train.
An East Coast lady lit my flame
All on a summer's day.

There's a lifeline in my soul
And it holds me back and lets me go.
I'm in love, so I've been told,
Letting the lifeline stay

I've got a heartline in the air,
And if you listen for me, you'll find me there.
Whatever I do, I don't live my lifeline straight.

You must not have had the "Songs" section of the webpage back then; now you can go there for lyrics.

I wasn't here then Fading,but that's most likely true.

My apologies to Cathy for confusing her with "that" Cathy. I knew the name sounded familiar but couln't place it.
It's been nearly 25 years since John B. "passed away",so it didn't click right away.

Thanks Brink!
