Hi BillW,

The new update has some minor "cosmetic" effects, and some new features.

A few highlights are:

.) log in once and remain logged in
.) private message system - you can send notes to other users of this forum
.) easily include pictures in your posts
.) a couple of small changes to make the board more comfortable to use
.) lots of changes "under the hood" to improve stability and safety

I hope you enjoy these changes and explore the new options available.

Should any problems arise, please do not hesitate to report them here or contact me at: webmaster@corfid.com

Other than the fact that the new format jolted me WIDE AWAKE this morning (even without coffee :D ), I think I like it! Been having lots of computer problems lately so naturally in my sleepy state I thought we were having another episode!! Whew...not so! Yes...I think I could get happily used to this new format.
Thanks.

Holy moley I thought my computer (or this site) had picked up a weird virus - whew!

I think it'll take a little getting used to, but what is life but change and more change?

WOW! Very nice. 6.7.2 is the same version I use on my forum. Very very nice!

Yes, this is a bit different, I haven't been on for a while and this was a shock. I clicked on my favorites list and it didn't go anywhere. Then I wanted to know what the little whistle was and almost reported Silverheels post hahaha Sorry, if Florian contacts you, just blame it on me for being curious!
Thanks Florian, it will take a while to get used to, you have to be careful with some of us old farts.
I thought so to Annie, I was booted off the chatroom Friday and couldn't get back so I thought it was a gnome in my computer. I need to go put my contacts in so I can see this better.

Does anyone else see that the two posts at the top of the list are not the most recent ones. Or is that just me ?

i can't read the black print on the blue background tho.....

Does this mean a new tutorial from Sir John on how to post pics after I've learned the old way?
lol

thanks Florian!

Hi Charlene,

I know I need to rework some of these buttons, they are designed for light backgrounds. I'll be done with that hopefully tomorrow or day after tomorrow.

Well, I'm *sadly* disappointed
There was no whistle sound when I clicked on it!! :D
Really, though, Florian, it's very cool. One thing that confused me was when I went back to edit this post, afterward I had to choose between Edit Post (again) and Preview Post. So, I thought, "hmm, I've already edited this post --am I editing it again or should there be a Post Reply button somewhere..." Took me 2 times to figure out I should take a chance on the Edit Post button... Let' see what other fun stuff I can do in here... !

I like it! I like it! Especially the easy to see smileys! 1 click, right on! :D

Having been here 2 years and the site itelf being over 5 & 1/2 years old,it was time for a change. The abscence of lines between the messages makes us all seem like one, instead of everyone's seperate message or idea.

I also dig the idea of a preview before sending! IMDB has this feature and it saves you from grammer & spelling errors.

I also think a new picture of Gordon should be put up top to reflect the change. I'd say a collage of Gord pics from each decade (60's/70s/80s/90s & now).

Good job Florian!

Yes "way cool' as they say nowadays Florian
especially the listing of recent visitors
and the preview featuere since I make so many typos!!
I saw the link to "instant graemlins' and not
knowing what they be I looked, half hoping they would be some suggested one-liners to add to your signature and thereby make people laugh but no they are just different smileys
Now regarding the display tutorial dear Charleader
I do not understand what Florian meant by saying
".) easily include pictures in your posts"
Since my attempts at a tutorial semed to be understood by most here who took the trouble to fathom it out and this feature has I believe always been available to anyone who had read the UBB instructions on the code page that you can open whilst you are replying) if you click the "UBB code is enabled" link on the left.
However I will try to get round to my promised revision of my "tutorial" on displaying pictures as the bare UBB instructions do need embellishing ,particulary to point out that you can only display pix that are already on a web site somewhere/anywhere for example on a "free" web site .I have nearly finished my investigation of yther millions of free web site suppliers so that will be another new tutorial in my series

John Fowles
Oh yes a joke for today.
"Urban legend" has it that Yorkshire inventor Percy Shaw was inspired in 1934 to invent the ubiquitos UK self-cleaning reflective roadway lane markers known as "cat's eyes" when looking
at his pet's face.Of course had he been looking at the other end he could have invented the pencil sharpener.
Which of course reminds me of the "constipated" mathematician who worked it out with a pencil!!!!

One minor irritation to correct Florian
The first time I tried to reply I got to the "quick reply" form then previewed but could not
locate a means to submit my piece so it would not post

I did find that "post reply" only opened another quick reply form.
Luckily I had saved my text so I retried and the second time I went to the "full reply form" link
and tried again. There I noticed an idiot's guide/means to add the required UBB code for images etc.
I have to ask:- How come you yourself did not use the list feature eh??
Having done that the only choice was "add reply" or preview again and I discovered that "add reply" was the the way to go to actually post my submission. So to clarify could you rename the "add reply" button to "submit" please
My other comment is that at one point I found that I am being listed as member #622.
Presumably I am the 622nd if members are listed alphabeticaly as I was (I claim) probably
member #2 after you Florian
If the number refers to an alphabetical listing database here where is it??
OK found it!!!
it's in the interesting "directory" section
which reveals that Walter the" B" is the poster boy to watch!!!
And just what are the qualifications to become your "Member of the Moment"???
John Fowles
Pause to try to remember another joke
OK wait for it.. tada tada
Mary had litle lamb. she also had a bear
I often saw her little lamb but I never saw her bare

and #622 because much later I added johnfowles Oh well

At first I had to get used to it, but I think I like the new format too. I like the instant graemlins.

another welcome new feature is that you can now check the notification box for any topic you reply to not just your own new topics
you are then "subscribed" to that topic and will receive an email from that super corfid webmaster fellow every time any new reply is posted to that topic.
the email will simply say
"A user has replied to a topic you are subscribed to at Gordon Lightfoot:" plus a link to take you directly to the topic in question
But I fear that all this emailng will no doubt take up all Florian's time so it is unlikely he'll make it to Toronto next month!!

another welcome new feature is that long (multi-page) topics now have clickable links to each page in the main listing thereby avoiding loading up page 1 and having to wait for it to load before you can then click on the latest page
to read a new message.

Anytime there is an ! in front of a thread, it means it will stay at the top. Topics with an ! are featured so people will see them easily without having to scroll through pages of threads like with the favorite song thread. A lot of times people will post rules about a message board and then feature the topic so it's easily found.
