I had the great fortune of seeing the Monkees perform last summer, for their 45th anniversary tour. They were absolutely amazing, performing for three straight hours with no intermission. A large screen was positioned above the stage, showing films and clips of them from the 1960's, while they performed in real time. The audience was on their feet and singing along to many of the songs, and I remember feeling such joy at the unbridled fun we were having.

The news of Davy's passing today brought tears to my eyes. I remember waiting in anticipation for their sitcom to air on Monday evenings, and forty six years later, it continues to hold up remarkably well, along with all of their great music.

My condolences go out to his wife, children and grandchildren. May this handsome and talented gentleman who touched so many hearts, rest in peace.

R.I.P. Mr. Jones,

We watched the TV shows when they were first run... and have sung all those songs all these years. Didn't care how they were formed, didn't matter, show was funny and the music was fun. He will be missed.

Everything about them as a group and individuals was 'feel good'..have fun and enjoy the music. It's still the same now.
I'm sad.

I am right now watching a REMAX commercial with the Jim Croce lyrics - 'moving me down the highway, movin' ahead so life don't pass me by' playing...
sheesh...

Yeah, sad to see.

In addition to everything else were it not for the Monkees the great John Stewart might have had to find another line of work. His solo work was terribly overlooked but writing DAydream Believer paid the rent for a looooong time.

Weirdly my earliest childhood memory is somewhat linked to Davy Jones...sure I was a fan of the Monkees TV show, but other than JFK's funeral, my earliest memory is of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. On that particular show was also the Broadway cast of Oliver including Davy Jones as the Artful Dodger.

Just finished watching my recording of Micky Dolenz on Piers Morgan tonight. Sad time for him right now. Good of him to go on to talk about his friend/brother, David Jones. Micky has always reminded me of my mom's brother, Nicky. Same face shape, hair. Nicky used to take us kids to the priest's horse shows in Hugo, MN back in the 1960's. Sad for Davy's family. It must have been fun having a Monkee dad. I wouldn't know, my dad was more like a Sasquatch at 6'4". Sad when someone passes away at such a young age. My condolences to his family and friends, and all those whose lives were given his special touch.

I posted this one before but was removed. It was a solo rlease which I don't think it became a hot called "Girl.''

Of course it was from the 1971 episode of "The Brady Bunch" were Marsha wants him to perfrom at her school.

I'm quite late on replying, but I have been busy with things but also at the same time bummed about both Davy and Whitney.

I know the two are diversely different but both mean as much to me musically and in my history with listening and collecting over the years.

I first saw Davy in the very early 70s,staurday morning re-runs of The Monkees and on The Brady Bunch of course.

One of my favorite songs of his to sing was, naturally,Daydream Beleiver. Even as a teen in the "feel no emotion" 1980s,I still sanfg that song. (Although not big on Anne Murray's version).

It's such a sudden thing too and I'm sure he was the one we thought would be around longest.

RIP Davy.
